CLASS OVERVIEW Audition Workshop (13-99) Teachers: Erik Snodgrass, Rachel Turner, Jill Brewer, Ashtyn Campbell Acting This triple-threat workshop is focused on preparing you for musical theater auditions. Two classes will be focused on acting, two on singing, and one on dancing for a total of five class periods. This intensive course will teach you what to expect at auditions, how to prepare, what directors are looking for, and ways to stand out (in a good way!). There will be mock auditions held during class times so that you can receive feedback and improve to feel confident at your next audition. Please see schedule below for exact dates. KIDS Acting (9-13) Megan Adams Students will participate in exercises to learn about: creativity, adaptability, storytelling, listening, risk-taking, truthful artistic play, and more. With improv and stage time, actors will grow in multiple aspects of acting. Limited class sizes ensure one-on-one instruction, guidance, and encouragement. Beginner (13-99) Sarah Steenkamp This class will introduce fundamental principles of acting including terminology and techniques that are used in auditions, rehearsals and performances. Using exercises and stage time, actors will learn about incorporating voice, body movement and imagination. Intermediate (18-99) Megan Adams This class will build on fundamental principles to continue to develop acting skills. Using exercises, improvisations, script work, character analysis and stage time, actors will grow in multiple aspects of their performance including voice, body movement and imagination. Intermediate Class Pre-requisite: Should know fundamentals of acting (basic terminology, techniques, etc.) and have had 2+ acting classes or 2+ years of experience performing.
Dance KIDS Musical Theater (9-13) Sarah Reed (3:30-4:30pm), Kevin Wold Jr.(7:00-8:00pm) Facial expression, body language, movement, oh yes, and singing, all come together to form this entertaining genre of dance. Broadway styles of choreography, detailed audition techniques, and individual choreography styles will be introduced. Don t be surprised to be asked to sing while dancing! KIDS Jazz (9-13) Karina Alonso Flexibility, dance fundamentals, Jazz dance history, rhythm, and confidence all come together to form this powerful and fun genre of dance. Students will learn about this upbeat and empowering style. Dancers should come prepared to have fun, learn about God, and grow in their art and ability to move! Beginner Ballet (13-99) Ashtyn Campbell This beginner ballet class requires little to no previous ballet experience. Students will learn the fundamentals of classical ballet including barre exercises, stretching, center, and across the floor work. Emphasis will be placed on developing the foundational skills and technique necessary for further ballet study. Attire: black leggings, ballet skirt, fitted t-shirt or v-neck, and pink ballet shoes. Hair must be in a bun. No jewelry allowed. *Intermediate Ballet (13-99) Ashtyn Campbell This intermediate ballet class requires two consistent years of previous ballet training. Students will learn more advanced combinations and steps. This class will move at a faster pace than the beginner level, not slowing down for detailed explanations. This class will consist of classical ballet including barre exercises, stretching, center, and across the floor work. Emphasis will be placed on advancing the student s skills and technique necessary for further ballet study. Attire: black leggings, ballet skirt, fitted t-shirt or v-neck, and pink ballet shoes. Hair must be in a bun. No jewelry allowed.
*Intermediate/Advanced Jazz Karina Alonso This advanced jazz class requires the foundation of previous beginning, and intermediate jazz technique. A fast paced environment with more advanced combinations and techniques. This class includes across the floors, center combinations and strengthening exercises. The purpose of this class is to continue the development for jazz technique and to help propel the dancers growth for further study. Attire: no jewelry, for purpose of safety; hair pinned or tied away from the face; and appropriate and fitted clothing for the purpose of seeing alignment in the body. Don t be surprised to be asked to sing while dancing! *Intermediate/Advanced Dance Class Pre-requisites: In placing yourself in different level classes, please note that we consider Beginner Level to have 0-1 years of experience, Intermediate Level to have 2-4 years of experience, and Advanced Level to have 5+ years of experience.
Singing Musical Theatre KIDS (9-13) and Beginner (13-99) Andi Fredricks Students will be introduced to pop-style technique geared towards musical theater. Vocal exercises are given that will strengthen the voice as well as develop range. Students will then learn to apply what is being taught through these exercises to songs from musicals. Expression, emotion, and overall confidence will be a key focus in bringing songs to life! Advanced (13-99) Jill Brewer Advanced class will improve vocal technique and hone performance skills. Singers will apply what is being taught through exercises to songs from musicals. Expression, emotion, and overall confidence will be a key focus in bringing these songs to life! Advanced Class Pre-requisite: Must have had either 12 weeks of voice training in the Gateway pop-style technique OR have passed vocal level 100 in Worship Team Academy.
