Our classes are open to both new and returning students. While summer group classes run from July 11th through August 20th, private instruction, such as individual music lessons, can start at any time subject to teacher availability. If you or your child were taking private instruction during the school year and you wish to continue lessons during the summer months, please contact the Prep Center Office and speak with your current teacher. Adults may also receive private and group instruction in instruments and voice. Please visit our website www.bcprepcenter.org for summer adult study. Registration Information Registration for summer is from April 1 July 9. Registration after July 9 may be possible for some classes and for private lessons. If you register before June 10, the $25 registration fee will be waived. Students who were studying at the Prep Center during the 2016 2017 school year must submit a Summer 2017 Registration Form if they are continuing their studies during the summer. The registration fee will be waived for these students. All group classes are for six weeks. Please call the Prep Center office to discuss scheduling for private instruction and audition prep. The tuition listed with each class (Day/Time) covers the cost of that section for the full summer session. Families are welcome to contact the Prep Center for a registration consultation by calling 718-951-4111. Registration Procedures Please review our listings of summer classes and lessons in the enclosed schedules for Children and Teens. Complete the 2017 Summer Registration Form and submit it to the Prep Center Office by mail, email, fax or in person (this information appears at the top of the registration form). A registration form is enclosed. If you are registering more than one student, please complete a separate registration form for each student. You may download extra forms from our website. Payment can be made by check, money order or credit card. If you wish to have a payment plan, you must have a credit card number on file. Checks or money orders should be made out to: BC Member Org. We do not accept cash. Please select the Day and Time that best fits your child s schedule and write it on the Summer Registration Form. Your child then attends only the Day/Time for all six weeks for which he or she is registered. Please note: You may call the Prep Center Office at 718.951.4111 for further information or visit our website at www.bcprepcenter.org This schedule of classes is subject to change. The Prep Center reserves the right to cancel any class for which there is insufficient enrollment. Additional sections or classes may be added. Please let us know if you have interest in a class but require a different time for your schedule. Please contact the Prep Center Office about vendor information for instrument rentals for the group classes. Students taking instrumental lessons must bring their own instruments with them to class. FOR CHILDREN AGES 3-12 Creative Play Summer Programs for children ages 3-6 Creative Play Theater and Dance Children ages 3 to 6 have their first experience with dance and theater in this fun and active program which meets twice a week. The program also includes arts and crafts, as well as story time to provide the child with a well-rounded, nurturing environment that fosters creative development, social skills and self-confidence. Tues & Thurs, 11:15-12:45 $350 Tuesday Schedule Creative Movement: (30 mins) Creative Dramatics (30 mins) Thursday Schedule Creative Movement (30 mins) Arts and Crafts (30 mins) Creative Play Music Children ages 3 to 6 are introduced to two classes in our Suzuki violin program: In the Intro class, your child will learn the four basic Suzuki rhythms and how to hold the violin. In Music and Movement, pitch and rhythm is taught through movement and singing. Good preparation for the school year Pre-Twinkle Suzuki program, but is not required. Creative Dramatics for the Very Young Using the child s imagination and creativity, this class uses theater games, movement and song to introduce acting. This class also provides a great opportunity for young children to develop social and communication skills. Tuesday, 2:45-3:30 2

Theater Games and Improvisation Designed for students who are interested in exploring acting in a relaxed and fun-filled environment. An introduction to acting through theater games, monologue, improvisation, and movement. The final class will be a performance open to parents and invited guests. For students ages 6 to 12; grouped according to age Musical Theater Workshop Drawing from classic and current musical theater repertoire, this workshop is especially designed as an introduction to acting, singing and dancing skills taught collaboratively by three teachers. Emphasis will be placed on developing vocal technique, stage presence and basic musical theater dance choreography in an enjoyable and constructive atmosphere. Students will have the opportunity to perform at the end of the workshop in August. For ages 6 to 12; grouped according to age Dance Thursday, 2:00-3:30 Saturday, 11:00-12:30 Saturday, 12:45-2:15 Tues & Thurs, 3:45-5:30 $215 $215 $225 $395 Dress Requirements for Dance Classes Itty-Bitty Ballet: leotard, tights and ballet shoes (any color). Ballet Basics and all other Ballet classes: black or pink leotards, black or pink tights, and pink leather ballet shoes. Skirts are optional. (Oversized clothing and jewelry are not permitted.) Jazz/Contemporary Dance: all-black leotards, footless tights, leggings, shorts, t-shirts or tanks. Bare feet (Contemporary), Jazz shoes(jazz). Combo Classes, Jump & Move, Hip Hop and Tap: comfortable clothing, sneakers (Jump & Move and Hip Hop Classes), tap shoes (Tap Class) and ballet & tap shoes (Combo Classes). Class Day/Time Tuition Audition Prep Individually scheduled 30 minute lessons 60- minute lessons Students receive guidance in preparation for auditions for performing arts programs. Itty Bitty Ballet First ballet class, providing a warm and nurturing environment to encourage the child s love for learning ballet. Development of physical skills through rhythmic and coordination exercises. Introduction to ballet terminology and steps. For ages 3 to 5 Ballet Basics The first class in the Prep Center s progressive Classical Ballet curriculum. Emphasis on beginning to develop ballet technique and learning to work within traditional ballet class structure. For ages 4 to 6 Ballet A Emphasis is placed on ballet technique, ballet vocabulary, and development of correct body alignment. For ages 5 to 9 Dance Combo For families who want their children to try different dance styles. For ages 3 to 12; grouped according to age Jump and Move This class will introduce students to hip hop and jazz styles while developing their rhythm, balance, coordination and strength. A high energy class with no prior dance experience necessary. For ages 3 to 8 Hip Hop Introduction to urban dance. For ages 8 to 12 Tap Introduction to basic tap steps and the fundamentals of rhythm, including essential combinations and their importance to the art of tap dance. No prior dance experience necessary. ; grouped according to age Jazz This course features a ballet-based technique and explores various styles of jazz dance choreography. The class highly focuses on choreography and style. For ages 8 and up Thursday, 1:30-2:15 Tuesday, 12:45-1:45 Saturday, 11:00-12:00 Tuesday, 2:00-2:45 Saturday, 12:15-1:00 Saturday, 1:00-2:00 Music Additional sections may be added if needed to maintain class size and appropriate age groups. Maximum of 6 students in each of the instrumental introduction classes. Private Instruction Individually Scheduled 30-minute lessons 60-minute lessons -Private instrument lessons for age 5 and up -Private voice, composition, and theory lessons for age 8 and up - Minimum registration of 4 lessons required. Music and Movement First structured music class. Children learn about musical elements including pitch and rhythm through games, movement, and singing. Designed to give small children a good start for studying music while being interesting and fun. Little Pipers Flute Class This class serves as a first class for young children to learn to play flute. Using fifes, students learn the basic skills of flute playing including hand position, breathing, posture and simple songs. For ages 4 to 5 Intro to Flute Students are introduced to the basics of the flute, including breathing, tone production and posture. Intro to Clarinet Students are introduced to basic technique, simple melodies, note reading and playing with other students. For age 8 and up Intro to Suzuki Cello This class is designed to be a child and parent s first experience with the cello and an introduction to the Suzuki method. The child is taught the correct way of holding the cello, the feet position, and the bow hold. Introduction to 4 basic rhythms. Good preparation for the school year Pre-Twinkle Suzuki program, but it is not required. Intro to Suzuki Violin This class is designed to be a child and parent s first experience with the violin and an introduction to the Suzuki method. The child is taught the correct way of holding the violin with no hands (using a cardboard violin), the feet position, and the bow hold. Introduction to 4 basic rhythms. Good preparation for the school year Pre- Twinkle Suzuki program. Intro to Violin Students begin by learning the correct way to hold the violin and bow, a necessity for learning the instrument. Introduction of simple melodies and basic rhythms utilizing a combination of imitation (learning by ear) and basic note reading. Singing Class for Beginners Designed to carefully nurture the voice and using simple songs, this class is designed to provide young voices with basic techniques for breathing, tone, intonation, and good posture. Note reading not required. Intermediate Voice Class Students with one or more years of voice study or choral singing work on breathing, tone, intonation, posture, and note reading. For age 8 and up Intro to Piano Students are introduced to the fundamentals of piano playing in a friendly group environment. Instruction will include beginning note reading and piano technique. Materials fee not included. Intro to Guitar Students are introduced to note reading, learning simple melodies, basic chords and chord progressions Please note: students need to bring their own instruments. Materials fee not included. Intro to Drum Class Students are introduced to a range of percussion and rhythm instruments. Maximum of 6 students; grouped by age.
