4 I arrived at this profession through the side door. I was first a teacher. working with high school students in geometry. I did much of my concept teaching through the use of art projects. and wrote about learning to visualize in 3D by building polyhedral solids for my Masters thesis. My students were the ones with crayons. scissors, glue, toothpicks, and marshmallows! Through an interesting and circuitous route, I discovered the world of digital art and Photoshop. As I learned new techniques and tools in Photoshop, I wrote them out in the form of tutorials, which I maintain, along with the Art Challenge, Message Board, and other digital art resources at (Many of my tutorials are great for Elements, too!) Besides maintaining my online Photoshop education community, I do freelance graphics, fine art, and technical writing, with a specialty in Photoshop and Elements. I have been an author for other friends of ED books, including PS 7: Professional Photographic Techniques and PS 7: Trade Secrets. You can do amazing things with Elements! This is serious life-changing software, through which you can seek and find the artist within you. I cannot imagine a more exciting thing to do than to accompany you on your journey! His passion for photography started while touring the outback on a mountain bike. 6 Welcome The genesis for this book came from a simple resou rce: you. Well, people like you at any rate. It's the 'most wanted' uses and techniques for Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0; each chapter is a different topic that covers a popular application of the program, and within those chapters you'll find practical easy to follow exercises that show you how to get the most from this powerful tool. We decided to create this new book in our Most Wanted series after following the birth of Photoshop Elements and witnessing the explosion of interest in digital imaging. The availability of low-cost image editing tools like Elements means that high quality home processing is no longer the preserve of the professional. On the CD you'll find a free 30-day trial of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 (for PC only- sorry Mac users, but there's only so much room on a single CD and we just couldn't squeeze the Mac version on there! You can get the free Mac trial version from Throughout the book. walk-through tutorials will help to reveal the power placed at your fingertips by Photoshop Elements. These tutorials are based around image files supplied by the authors, and every file can be found on the CD within individual chapter folders.
