The Game of the Goose (Das Gansespiel (german), Gioco dell'oca (italian), Jeu de l'oie (french), Juego de la Oca (spanish), Ganzenbord (dutch), Gaspelet (swedish)) is thought to be the prototype for many of the commercial European racing board games of recent centuries. Text on Fabriano Roma (hand-made) and hand-made paper. Illustrations on Somerset 250gsm Antique (CP) and Arches Aquarelle 185gsm (HP). Hand gold tooling on illustration. With 2 full-page photographic portraits of Vakhtangov, 22 black-andwhite and 12 color full-page plates, with tissue guards, and many smaller illustrations in the text; showing photographs of the production and sketches for costumes and scenery by Nivinskii. His designs were based on commedia dell'arte models, although heavily infused with contructivism. Rebound in blue silk with original cover by Nivinskii mounted. Illustrated with 1 aquatint for the frontis, 7 lithographs in black, with 6 hors text et one cul-de-lampe, lettrines in linogravure. Very fine copy with original glassine. In original folding chimese and slipcase (a few tiny nicks) both printed in original lithographs by Matisse. One of 300 copies signed by Balthus this being number 77. Folio. With 6 full-page color woodcuts by Balthus. Text in Italian. Publisher's full peacock green silk. Front board with black leather label on, lettered in gilt. Very fine. Housed in the publisher's matching suede-lined silk clamshell with black leather label, lettered in gilt on spine. Also includes three compact discs containing Hans Rosbaud's opera in a pocket in the inside rear cover. With Limited Editions Club newsletter laid in. In 1950, Balthus designed the costumes and sets for a production of Mozart s Cosi fan tutte mounted in July at the 31ème Festival International de Musique in Aix-en- Provence. His decors captured the spirit of an opera that has been described as iridescent, like a glorious soap bubble, with the colors of buffoonery, parody and both genuine and simulated emotion. Berlin: Galerie Flechtheim, No. 66 of 125 copies signed by Tilla Durieux and Emil Orlik. Sm folio, vellum backed-boards, slightly rubbed. With five original etchings and one lithograph, each signed by Orlik. Durieux trained in Vienna, her native town, and got her first engagement in Bresla in Later she worked with Max Reinhardt and Erwin Piscator in Berlin. In 1912 she played Circe in Calderon s comedy of the same name. In 1913 she played Frank Wedekind's Lulu in Munich. Tilla Durieux was the first to perform Oscar Wilde's Salome on the stage and also the first Eliza Doolittle in Shaw's Pygmalion. In 1914 she made her film debut in the silent movie. $2,500 Page 10

Folio (14 1/2 x 10") 12 pages, 6 of text, 6 of illustrations, facing each other. Protected in black, decorated cloth folder. An evocative representation of William Butler Yeats' great poem. Brittany Sanders is a talented young artist who already has placed her unique artists books in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, the New York Public Library, and in the special collections departments of Yale, Brown, Stanford and UCLA. Her publications include; I was There: Rumor Fable Exploit (2002); Pickle the Parrot (2000). Her Last Night we Were Awoke: Lewis & Clark - Memory of a Journey (2003) was featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's 2004 exhibition Highlights of the Permanent Collection 1450 to the Present. $2, (Tielemans, E. The poetry and woodcuts are primarily on fashionable themes: Parfums, Le Collier, Jeunesse. The angular, black and white wood-engravings echo French art-deco styles. The artist, Emile Henry Tielemans, was a painter, engraver on wood, and jeweler, born in Louvain, $1,500 Page 12
