The lithograph pictures a serene Taglioni looking front, amost half length to right, wearing off-the-shoulder gown with two tiers of lace at collar, braids hanging over ears. Reference: Chaffee/American #92 who notes that the dancers represented are probably intended as M. Martin and his wife, or the more famous Mme. Lecomte. The Nymphs of Fiesole. with the woodcuts made by Bartolommeo di Giovanni for a lost quattrocento edition, which were used to illustrate various later texts and have now been reassembled and recut. Postscript by Hans Mardersteig. Verona, Officina Bodoni, #86 of 225 copies. A fine copy without any foxing to deckle edges or fading to vellum spine. With 23 woodcuts re-cut by Fritz Kredel and 1 facsimile title-page. XI, 127 (1). Tall 8vo (8" x 11 ½"). Publisher s half vellum gilt fillet, gilt lettering on spine, top edge gilt, other edges uncut, decorative patterned boards, vellum tips. Printed in Griffon type on the handpress on Fabriano paper. One of the most important books of the Officina Bodoni. This edition attempts to restore the original series of woodcuts made for the "Ninfale" by Bartolome di Giovanni (fl d. 1501), to whom we owe the designs for most of the woodcuts to be found in Florentine illustrated books of the last decade of the 15th century. The poem of Boccaccio was written in about , translated into French by Anthony Guerin and then into English prose by John Goubourne, (who probably did not know Italian) where it was published in 1597 by Ia R. The decoration for the ceiling of the Paris Opera by Chagall was commissioned by Andre Malraux, then the Cabinet Minister in charge of Cultural Affairs. This interpretive rendering of lithograph executed by Charles Sorlier, from a detail of the preliminary sketch of the ceiling of the Paris Opera. This fragment is a tribute to Berlioz for Romeo and Juliet; it also includes pictures of the Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe Ref: Sorlier, Chagall's Posters, A Catalogue Raisonne, 96; Weill page 358. $3, Craig, Edward Gordon. These 32 beautiful theatrical designs, eleven in color, are the best contemporary record of the Craig version of the Ibsen's play. A portrait of Saint Anthony reproduced from a block print by Odilon Redon. Translation by Lafcadio Hearn. Bound in a Fortuny cloth based on a fifteenth century Persian design: blue background fabric stamped with an overall stylized Egyptian palm tree pattern. With prospectus. A dense, five-page letter to Mme Jules Clarétie, the wife of the important critic and writer Jules Clarétie, briefing her friend on wealthy guests who are coming to a soirée at the Clarétie home. Fuller writes with obvious affection for her friend, in language evocative of her very creativity, but with no love for the wealthy guests. Written at an important period in Fuller s life when she began work on her autobiography, encouraged by Jules Clarétie. At this time, she was also staging her balletpantomime La Tragédie de Salomé (1907). $2,500 Page 13

Vol II hinges cracked. With half-titles in all volumes and leaf of ads end of Vol I. Protected in half orange morocco slipcase, lettered in gilt. Slightly scuffed and faded. [Gissing's] strongest book, an acknowledged classic. Its main characters have become recognized symbols of the many shades of professional integrity and adaptability in the literary world, shades not substantially affected by the passing of the years" (ODNB). Der Rabbi von Bacherach. mit Originallithographien von Max Liebermann. Berlin: Im Prophlaen Verlag, #279 of 400 with signed frontispiece and limitation page by Liebermann and 17 full or partial page lithographs in black. (The first 100 were printed on Japan Vellum). This unfinished story remains popular because it pictures life in the medieval Jewish community with detailed description of worship, customs, and pecking orders, as well as, dress, manners and a variety of activities within the Jewish quarter. Liebermann s realistic sketchbook style, depicts scenes with a charcoal drawing like simplicity. The stark flat depiction creates an atmosphere of dark foreboding. $1,500 Page 17

This print pictures Horton in the musical opera at the Strand in 1834 called The Twelve Months probably after the text of Gilbert Abbott a Beckett ( ). How quickly we forget. Printed by Ducros, Lefèvre & Colas. 30 April Max Jacob s influence on modern French poetry was profound, and his modernist lyrical verse is still widely read. He played a decisive role in the new directions of modern poetry during the early part of the 20th century. He influenced many of his contemporaries and toward the end of his life was surrounded by a devoted group of younger and older artists. Housed in a two-piece board sleeve & slipcase, the spine of the sleeve shows extremely light fading. With 60 black and white portraits, and 33 mounted color plates. With introduction by Matisse. Entirely planned by Matisse who designed the cover, chose the portraits to be reproduced, and did an original lithograph for the frontispiece. The original lithograph, cover and color plates were printed by Mourlot Freres, collotypes by Louis Duval, 1500typography by Imprimerie Union. In 1950, Balthus designed the costumes and sets for a production of Mozart s Cosi fan tutte mounted in July at the 31ème Festival International de Musique in Aix-en- Provence. His decors captured the spirit of an opera that has been described as iridescent, like a glorious soap bubble, with the colors of buffoonery, parody and both genuine and simulated emotion. He thought he could design a ceramic form that could be produced in a small limited edition, just as he would produce a print on paper. In 1953 Picasso met artist Jacqueline Roque at Madoura Pottery in Vallauris where she worked. Together they created his ceramics. In 1961 they married and moved to Mougins, France where Picasso continued creating ceramics until his death in Annually, he created a poster to advertise his show and sale of new ceramics. On thin paper, laid down, clean break across length of image, mended..the English premiere of the Awakening of Flora (Le Réveil de Flore) was presented on October 12, 1914, with scenery and costumes by Albert Rutherson. Queen Alexandra was in a box in the circle. Pavlova danced for the first time with Alexandre Volinine. The arrangement was by Clustine. The performance was a success and raised funds for the Red Cross World War I relief. This drawing is reproduced in Rutherson s limited edition Sixteen Designs for the Theatre. Oxford, Albert Rutherson was influential in bringing about the modern use of the painted curtain, which soon found its way onto the vaudeville stages, for which he did a number of productions. $2,000 Page 26
