Sydney; University of Sydney; ***The first three issues of this most important Journal were edited by A. R. Radcliffe-Brown. It was then edited by Raymond Firth until Volume III, No. 2 and from March 1933 (Volume III, No. 3) until 1979 (Volume 50, No. 1) by A. P. Elkin. A vast quantity of important anthropological research relating to the Australian Aborigines and the Native Peoples of New Guinea and the Pacific Islands is contained in this fine, and complete run. Volume I, Nos. 1 and 4, and Volumes 17-25, 28, 30-32, and 37 are present in the facsimile form issued by Kraus Reprint in 1971 while all the remaining issues are the first printings. There are marginal stains or minor marginal adhesion damage to a few plates of a few of the early parts as is almost invariably the case, this damage having occurred at The University of Sydney. The set is however in the main in fine condition. Most parts are out-of-print and many have been so for many years and are exceedingly scarce and difficult to obtain. 212 parts in 53 volumes, fully bound. #52163 A$

[Kenso (i.e. Kensington, N.S.W.); Authorised by S. de Mercy, Thor Publications, 22 Catch St.]; N.D. [c. 1971]. ***The imprint is almost certainly spurious, with the obvious play on Catch 22. The book was banned at the time in Victoria and Queensland and was classed as a restricted publication in New South Wales shortly after the distribution of the first issue of 15,000 copies. From the perspective of the present it is difficult to see what all the furore was about, the book consisting very largely of very sound advice to young people. A rare survival. Dr. Kenealy studied law at Dublin and was called to the English Bar in He was leading council in the Tichborne claim which became the longest case on record. His conduct during and after the trial brought him before a professional tribunal and he was eventually debarred. He was elected as representative for Stoke on 14 Feb and took his seat on the 18th. He moved for a Royal Commission into the conduct of the Tichborne trial on the 23rd and was defeated 433 votes to 1. He wrote an eight volume folio of a nine volume work on the Tichborne trials before his defeat at the 1880 elections and subsequent death. - National Library of Australia. #16568 A$125.00
