Citing References in text may be done three ways: Superscript numbers outside punctuation. Separate multiple authors with semicolons. Some publications list the first ten authors followed by a semicolon and et al.

In page spans, use all digits closed up with no commas or spaces Author(s) (multiple authors separated by;). Abbrev. Title. Year, Volume, inclusive pagination. Note: The journal Biochemistry is an exception. Consult this journal s instructions for correct format. Article titles do not have quotations and end with a period or question mark if that is part of the title. Capitalization follows that of the original publication. Abbreviate journals according to Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index (CASSI) Appendix 14-1, and italicize it. One-word journal names are not abbreviated. No punctuation is added, so a period will be there only with an abbreviated word. If the journal name has changed, use the abbreviation of the journal at the time the article was published. Provide each reference in its entirety (even if same author is cited). Do not use ibid or idem. Special Situations: You may use Beilstein references as periodical references. Foreign language journals may be cited either in original language or English translation.
