4 Your Questions Answered 1. Will there be an honours day this year? Yes. Each zone should organize an honours day for its clubs. The EJC Honours Committee will assist where possible. The dates have already been scheduled and are: Sunday April 21 - Zones 1 & 4 and Sunday May 5 - Zones 2 & Does my club need to attend the honours day? No. Honours are encouraged to be done at the club where resources permit. The information presented at the honours days will be available at or afterwards. Clubs that do honours independently should refer to the presentations for examples of expected responses. Clubs that would like to be a part of the honours days should submit the names of the Pathfinders and the respective honours by Wednesday April 17 for Zones 1 & 4 and Sunday April 28 for Zones 2 & 3. Information may be submitted to ejchonours@gmail.com. Please ensure that you copy the honours coordinator for your zone on all correspondence sent to this address. 3. Is there a cost for honours day? Yes. There is a nominal registration fee of $50 per person. Booklets may be obtained one of three ways: a) Downloaded and printed from or free of cost; or b) Collection from EJC office beginning Thursday, April 18 at cost of $50 each. For collection on Thursday, orders should be placed with Sis Polly Wiggan by Monday, April 15 and payment should be made on collection; or c) Collection at the Registration Desk on the Honours Day at cost of $50 each. Please note that after Monday, April 15, booklets being ordered for collection from EJC must be ordered at least two (2) weeks in advance. For Tie & Dye and Glass Painting, Pathfinders are expected to bring their own supplies (see Appendix 1 for list of supplies required). EJC may be able to provide some of these supplies but there is no guarantee this can be done. Also these would be provided at an additional cost. 4. Are folders required for honours? No, once all requirements in the booklet are satisfactorily completed, the honour will be awarded. An honour will not be considered satisfactorily completed unless the practical aspect is done (also see Question 10). 5. Will there be a test on the honours day? No. All written examinations relating to honours will be held on the same day as the written examinations for class requirements. examinations will be announced as arrangements are made, but are expected to be close to the time of the written examinations. 6. When are the booklets to be submitted? Booklets must be submitted to the honours coordinator for each zone through the club director by the last Sunday in August. Location(s) and times for collection of booklets will be announced in advance. Booklets will be returned to club directors by the end of September for distribution to club members. EJC Honours Q&A 2013 Page 1 of 3

5 7. What happens if my booklet is misplaced after it has been submitted? We are all human and unfortunately, mistakes occur from time to time. Generally, an honour will not be awarded in the absence of evidence of completion of the requirements. A Profile Sheet has been developed for Pathfinders and Honour Coordinators for each zone. It is the responsibility of each Pathfinder to ensure that his/her club director signs his/her sheet to indicate a booklet has been received. Similarly, each club director is responsible for ensuring that the honours coordinator for each zone signs for the number of booklets received from each club for each honour. In each case, the sheets should also be signed when the booklets are returned. The honours committee will not consider cases where there is no evidence of submission. 8. Can I do honours in addition to the core ones for my class? It depends. You may do additional honours, but the EJC will not be able to grant the honour if it is unable to adequately assess your completion of that honour. Generally, additionally honours will fall into one of three categories: An honour being offered this year that is not a requirement for your class: For example, if a member of the Voyager class wants to do the Dogs honour, he/she needs only to obtain a copy of the Dogs Booklet and follow the requirements. An honour that is not being offered this year but for which it is likely that resource personnel could be found for assessment: For example, if a Pathfinder were to do the Cats honour, a folder would have to be submitted as a booklet is not yet available for that honour. An honour that is not being offered this year and for which it is not likely that resource personnel could be found for assessment: For example, if a Pathfinder wants to do African Lore, we would not be able to grant that honour as we are not able to provide a suitable mode of assessment this year. Directors should submit the names and additional honours that Pathfinders would like to do to the honours coordinator for their respective zones by Sunday, April 28. Subsequently, we will advise whether we will be able to facilitate the honour for this year. Information may be submitted to ejchonours@gmail.com. Please ensure that you copy the honours coordinator for your zone on all correspondence sent to this address. 9. Will I be able to complete the booklet solely from the information session on the honours day? No. Each honour requires additional work which should be done by the Pathfinder under the supervision of his/her counsellor. For example, pictures of dogs must be presented with the Dogs honour; evidence of a weekend campout and meals cooked must be provided for the Backpacking honour. 10. Will I be awarded an honour even if I do not complete the practical component? NO. The pass mark for each booklet is 75% and the number of marks allocated for each question is indicated in each booklet, BUT if there is no evidence of work done on the practical aspect, a grade will not be awarded - the booklet will be considered INCOMPLETE and will not be passed. EJC Honours Q&A 2013 Page 2 of 3
