1 South Harrison School District Suggested Summer Reading Grades K-2 The suggested summer reading book list is intended as a starting place for parents to use to help your child to delve deeper into the wonderful world of books. The list is a compilation of recommended reading from the reading list generated by the Governor of Connecticut s Summer Reading Challenge and the books in the appendices of the New Jersey Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects. When Toad admires the flowers in Frog's garden, Frog gives him seeds to grow a garden of his own. When Toad bakes cookies, Frog helps him eat them. Pancakes for Breakfast by Tomie DePaola * Available at GCLS This wordless picture book follows the trials of a little old lady who attempts to make pancakes for her breakfast. The optimistic determination of the woman and the gentle humor of the illustrations make this an appealing book for the very young. --School Library Journal Hi! Fly Guy by Tedd Arnold * Available at GCLS Boy and fly meet and so begins a beautiful friendship. Er, and so begins a very funny friendship. Using hyperbole, puns, slapstick, and silly drawings, bestselling author/illustrator Tedd Arnold creates an easy reader that is full of fun.

7 Read Aloud Stories The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank L Baum * Available at GCLS Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder Laura Ingalls's story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin.
