Mandela and I were close friends Anant Singh Nelson Mandela Every once in a few decades comes a man who changes the course of history. A colossus, with an indomitable spirit and unimaginable drive, who forsakes all he has for the good of a nation and humanity at large. His personal life takes a complete back seat and his family is forgotten as he devotes his entire life to fighting unremitting racial prejudices and vicious hate in order to fulfill his vision of a better world. A giant amongst leaders, Nelson Mandela, who went through an epic ordeal for 26 years being imprisoned on Robben Island by a racist regime became a source of eternal inspiration for a third generation African Indian film producer. For Anant Singh, Nelson Mandela s life story demonstrated eternal hope and the realisation of a dream of building a republic out of a racially divided nation. It was a gripping story veined with unbelievable forgiveness that had to be told to the world. Anant was
