1 Lunch August 15 th, 2006 President Elect Johnson Tan presided over the RCRC meeting on August 22nd, PP Ronald Pereira proposed the toast to RI. We had no speakers that day and much fellowship was enjoyed by all. Announcements: PP TC Phua: meeting venue during the IMF period (the dates are 12th and 19th September) will be moved to another location. This will be advised shortly once arrangements have been made with the alternative locations. PP David Ong Choon: The district seminar on club membership is being held in Johore this weekend. PP David asked if any Rotarians would be interested to join as he is the only one from the club going to this event. Unfortunately no one else could make it to this event. Rotarian Brian Tan, on behalf of new Generations: Rotaractors from Ngee Ann Poly will be leaving this weekend for Khao Lak for the tsunami renovation project. The following Rotarains will be going from September 5-7, PP Ron Pereira, PP Vincent Chen, Rotarian Alfred Ong and Cecilia and son, Rtn Aziz Tayabali and Rtn Brian Tan. Interact Club of River Valley High had made a trip to Khao Lak in June this year. They will be doing a presentation to the school on 13th September 1-2 PM. Rotarians are encouraged to attend the event to support the Interactors. PP Russi Ghadiali made an announcement that his committee will be meeting after the lunch to discuss the action plan for public relations for the club. PE Johnson Tan with visiting Rotarian from Germany

2 By , Rtn Steven Teng submitted this for RCRC members: Last Friday 18 Aug afternoon, six of our "SG" golfers - Raja, Kaka, Siew Joon, TC Phua, Alfred & myself have a wonderful golfing afternoon in SICC New Course. Raja is now a sharp shooter with very precise putting skills, as commented by Kaka, our current Club champion. TC Phua is doing too much dental drilling, thus out of touch with his golfing skill and he played lots of times in the woods...not too similar to Tiger Woods. Alfred, our latest addition, is a good golfer who only wants to beat me and he finally succeed at the last hole. All in all, we had an enjoyable afternoon and hope more of our "SG" will play next month. In the evening, we wined & dined in Peach Garden Restaurant with Billy & Aaron & three of our wives, Indrani, Cecila & Alice joining in. The food was fantastic and lots of jokes were exchanged. We also discuss the trip to Kun Ming and tentatively set the date as 2nd week of Nov More details will be announced soon after we check with the travel agents. In the news, the first issue of the DG's Newletter for Rotary Year 2006/07 is available at the District website PP David Ong reported that 19 Rotarians enjoyed the camaraderie as well as 2 visiting Rotarians (1 from Germany and 1 from a local club), and 1 Ann. The sunshine collection was $27. The meeting was declared closed at 2pm by PP David Ong. 5 The Guide to Daily Living Adopted for use by D3310 Conferences 1999 & 2001 Promoted for use in all clubs by D3310 Conference 2005 Submitted for consideration of the COL 2007, endorsed by D3310 Conference 2005 The Guide to Daily Living Before doing the things we want to do, consider first, the precept of the Guide. Ask ourselves these 4 questions and act upon them: First Second Third Fourth Have I spent some time in self-examination? Have I spent quality time with my family? Have I given the best to my work? Have I given some time to someone near and far? The first question prompts us to evaluate ourselves and our ability to serve. The second question reinforces our commitment to the family our intimate community of Life and Love The third question requests us to commit ourselves to work excellence and the practice of high ethical standards. The fourth question reminds us of our duty to Lend A Hand, rendering compassionate service and working for world peace. The Guide, in fact, encompasses the 4 parts of the Object of Rotary. The Four- Way Test: From the earliest days of the organization, Rotarians were concerned with promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives. One of the world's most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The Four-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor (who later served as RI president) when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. This 24-word test for employees to follow in their business and professional lives became the guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy. Adopted by Rotary in 1943, The Four-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It asks the following four questions:

6 "Of the things we think, say or do: 1) Is it the TRUTH? 2) Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3) Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?" Humour Time: Order in court These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters who had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place. Q: What is your date of birth? A: July 15th. Q: What year? A: Every year. Q: What gear were you in at the moment of the impact? A: Gucci sweats and Reeboks. Q: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all? A: Yes. Q: And! in what ways does it affect your memory? A: I forget. Q: You forget? Can you give us an example of something that you've forgotten? Q: How old is your son, the one living with you? A: Thirty-eight or thirty-five, I can't remember which. Q: How long has he lived with you? A: Forty-five years. Q: What was the first thing your husband said to you when he woke up that morning? A: He said, "Where am I, Doris?" Q: And why did that upset you? A: My name is Susan. Q: Do you know if your daughter has ever been involved in voodoo or the occult? A: We both do. Q: Voodoo? A: We do. Q: You do? A: Yes, voodoo. Q: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning? A: Did you actually pass the bar exam?

7 Q: The youngest son, the twenty-year-old, how old is he? Q: Were you present when your picture was taken? Q: She had three children, right? A: Yes. Q: How many were boys? A: None. Q: Were there any girls? Q: How was your first marriage terminated? A: By death. Q: And by whose death was it terminated? Q: Can you describe the individual? A: He was about medium height and had a beard. Q: Was this a male or a female? Q: Doctor, how many autopsies have you performed on dead people? A: All my autopsies are performed on dead people. Q: ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did you go to? A: Oral. Q: Do you recall the time that you examined the body? A: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m. Q: And Mr. Dennington was dead at the time? A: No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy. Q: Are you qualified to give a urine sample? Q: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse? Q: Did you check for blood pressure? Q: Did you check for breathing? Q: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy? Q: How can you be so sure, Doctor? A: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar. Q: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless? A: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practising law somewhere.
