1 This is the first list of some of my more interesting and/or amusing logs. This first list has not really been compiled for its amusement value but more as a sort of geocaching guide showing you the sort of things that we get up to for the benefit of those of you that are strangers to the hobby. For readers who do not know anything about geocaching then I will attempt to explain here as it will help you to understand the s that get written. is an outdoor game that can be enjoyed by all ages and put simply, involves using your smart phone or a dedicated GPS receiver to locate hidden caches (or boxes). Once found, you are required to sign a log book/sheet inside the cache and log your find on-line. That may sound easy but trust me it isn t. There are over three million caches hidden throughout the world with about 204,000 in the United Kingdom, That s close to an average of one geocache on every road in the United Kingdom, so you have walked straight past hundreds, if not thousands of geocaches without even knowing they are there. Geocaches are not confined to being hidden on roadsides though, they are everywhere, and in the most interesting places. The majority of geocaches are hidden in the countryside. On cycle paths, foot paths, in forests or wooded areas, everywhere! The difficulty of finding a geocache also varies from easy to almost impossible, they can be tiny (finger nail size) or very large (the size of a two man tent) and everything in-between. They can also be easy to get to (wheelchair accessible) to extremely difficult (30ft up a tree, or requires canoeing to an island). It is this diversity of location, difficulty, and physical effort that makes geocaching a game for everybody, and is also responsible for getting the hunters of geocachers into the most difficult and sometime amusing positions. Once found, you sign the log book with your name and date found, and then you log your find on-line at geocaching.com where you will need to set up an account. This site lists all the geocaches hidden in the world! Because the log books in the actual geocaches are small it is not encouraged to write any more than the briefest comment but when logging on line you are actively encouraged to describe the circumstances of your find. A good log will be a pleasure to read for the CO (Cache Owner, or person who hid the geocache). A simple TFTC (Thanks for the Cache) is fine but a much more descriptive log will be really appreciated, This is why I tend to spend quite some time writing my found logs and I tend to make them humorous whenever possible. This is my way of saying a big thank you to all the people who have taken the time to hide geocaches for the pleasure of people like myself who enjoy finding them. So here are some logs which will give you an insight into geocaching and hopefully some enjoyment as your read, and remember, all of my logs are based on the true experience of me finding the geocache, although some are more exaggerated than others!! This first collection of logs is much more of an introduction to geocaching as I slowly but surely became more experienced in finding them and also in writing up my logs later in the evenings. There is some humour starting to show but you will have to wait for the next collection before you really start laughing! 1 of 5

2 Off your bike! - Canal Caper Series Date Found 22/07/2016 I have included this log because it is the first geocache that I ever found Yahoo!! Found my first one, great fun but frustrating as this is the 4th one I looked for lol SideTracked - Neath (MK II) Date Found 22/07/2016 This cache is hidden in plain sight outside Neath Train station. Muggles is a term adopted by geocachers from the Harry Potter Books and is used to describe Those that do not practise geocaching. When you are looking for a geocache it is important not to give away its location, so muggles are a geocachers biggest nuisance. Muggles everywhere even at 9:30pm so I tried 3 times as I didn't want to get arrested lol. Got it eventually, nice hide thx Seafront Stroll Date Found 31/07/2016 This is what is known as a MultiCache. With these geocaches you have to visit one or more locations and collect information which will enable you to work out the location of the actual geocache. This particular one was a lovely walk along the Aberafon Seafront, Great walk and great fun finding the clues and the final cache was beautifully hidden. Top Marks :o) TFTC and well done 2 of 5

3 Three Trees Tree Date Found 14/08/2016 After a fairly normal start to my logging career, by now I am getting more experienced at geocaching and also more confident in terms of writing logs so a bit of humour is beginning to peep through! This cache was about a mile along a single track road in the hedge row! Nice easy find after screeching to a halt in the car!!! Made up for my stingy niece who left a sticky plaster!! And left a small puzzle game that was driving me mad!! So good luck to the next finder with that :o) Start of the Falls Date Found 14/08/2016 This cache was one heck of a climb along narrow overgrown paths which just went up and up until we reached the source of a stream that was ultimately responsible for a beautiful waterfall much further down stream where we began our walk, Wow!!! Fantastic walk to the cache but needed oxygen towards the end!! TFTC :o) Any turtles? - Canal Caper Series Date Found 04/09/2016 And of course, there are all sort of good reasons for geocaching with one or more other people, especially if you don t fancy clambering up or down a steep bank. Some geocaches are large enough to also contain treasure, which are usually small items of little value, but its always nice to open a cache and find them. The idea is that you take something and leave something in it s place. Children, often referred to as GeoKids, especially love finding treasure Sent Sis for the little scramble as I had been doing all the finding today. She found it quickly and replaced a small dog with a team GB Gold Medal. A fake one of course :o) TFTC 3 of 5

4 Giants Grave - Canal Caper Series Date Found 04/09/2016 You also get to see a fantastic variety of wildlife when searching in the countryside. Nice find and resting point but disappointed there were no horses to look at today. Plenty of Ducks though! TFTC :o) Are You Inclined - Pant Howells Ddu Bridge Date Found 11/09/2016 And a bit of friendly rivalry Very pleased to find this with Wilhelmina55 as my niece lives close by and she and boyfriend have looked for this numerous times without finding and its driving them mad, so a little wind up on Facebook was called for. TFTC :o) 3. Charlotte - Afan Valley Series 1 Date Found 12/01/2017 Geocaches are not always boxes, they can be anything large enough to hold a log book, Like A giant Spider for instance. I really should have guessed from the name of the cache! Good coordinates and clue got me to GZ with no problem at all. However, I needed a portable defibrillator when I found the cache itself. Once I restarted my heart I signed the cache and was on my way with a smile on my face. Great container and TFTC :o) (fav point given ) 4 of 5

5 23. Pontrhydyfen Viaduct - Afan Valley Series 1 Date Found 28/01/2017 Firstly, GZ is of course Ground Zero, and is where the coordinates will take you in order to find the cache. Here again the cache name was a clue that I didn t notice. I was standing under the viaduct! Parked the car in a small lay-by almost under the viaduct and walked about 75m to GZ and saw nothing that even looked like a hiding place! Then I looked up and smiled to myself for my own stupidity! I may have been at GZ but I was about 40ft below the cache. Ah well, I abandoned that particular search and did some of the trail and picked it up on the way back when I was at the same altitude as the cache. Nice hide and container. TFTC :o) 28. Lucy Ladybird - Afan Valley series 1 Date Found 29/01/2017 And then there are milestones to reach. this was my 100th cache, it was dark and raining hard but nothing was going to keep me from finding my 100th geocache! Desparate to get my 100th cache quickly as the weather and light were getting worse by the minute I skipped the previous cache after only a brief search thinking I was more likely to get the cache I so wanted that way. I'm so glad I did as to have such a pretty smiley cache container handing over the log sheet to me was just perfect for for 100th. TFTC, I'm also glad it was hidden by Cath And Rog, easily my favourite COs. Just had to award my last fav point.:o) Stealthy Sticks at Hensol Date Found 08/04/2017 Of course, you can t find them all. When you can t find a cache you have to log a Did Not Find or DNF for short. This one was part of a series of 26 and the only one we didn t find, it s disappointing but remember you still had fun! Ah! this great and beautiful caching day had to get upset with a DNF at some point and this was the place for us, and judging by a lot of previous logs it was also the place for many others as well. Personally I would call this one something else beginning with "S" Stick, but can't put it into print here haha :o) We gave it our all but to be fair I think we had lost a little bit of our tenacity, looking back now I think we literally got hold of the wrong end of the stick here and we were looking for the wrong thing. Never mind, its a lovely little place and on a road, so when we are next around this area we can easily have another go at it. :o) Thanks for the hide. 5 of 5
