2 JOIN THE KC3 CHALLENGE! Students Who Read 4 of the KC 3 Nominees May Vote on the Winning Book & Author at the End of February/Early March! Poacher Panic, by Jan Burchett The Bell Bandit, by Jacqueline Davies The KC3 Reading Program promotes reading by providing an annual Nominee List of quality books for students within the reading range. Books on the KC3 Nominee list are intended to introduce quality, contemporary literature to students. Students who read or have had read to them, at least four (4) titles from the master list will vote for his/her favorite. Ballots will be prepared for school librarians to distribute and collect from participating classrooms in March. The author of the winning title will receive special recognition. 6 Barnum s Bones: How Barnum Brown discovered the Most Famous Dinosaur in the World By Tracey Fern What is paleontology? How do fossils form? What was Barnum s favorite find? How long did it take for Barnum to find the T-rex fossils, from the time he first went to the Badlands to cleaning and mounting the skeleton? Do you think it was worth all of those years of work to find a complete T-rex skeleton? Explain. If Barnum had the tools and transportation now that we have in 2014, how would it have been easier for him to find fossils? Compare and use examples from the text. 6
