2 Hong Kong: Asia s Film Hub Hong Kong s film industry is one of the largest and most dynamic in the world. Per capita, Hong Kong film production ranks first in Asia. Over the decades, the industry has nurtured such internationally celebrated directors as John Woo and Tsui Hark, and household names such as Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat, Tony Leung, Jet Li, Maggie Cheung and Michelle Yeoh. The China Advantage The 2003 implementation of CEPA, the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, has been a boon to the Hong Kong film industry. Hong Kong-mainland co-productions have grown tremendously from about 10 titles per year before 2004 to about 30 films a year today. FILMART The HKTDC Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) is the premier film industry mart in Asia and one of the world s top events of its kind. The 15th edition of FILMART, in March 2011, attracted some 600 exhibitors, along with more than 5,000 visitors from 54 countries and regions. FILMART 2011 also drew some 940 entertainment industry professionals from the Chinese mainland, highlighting Hong Kong s role as the gateway to the huge China market. Under CEPA, Hong Kong-produced Chinese language movies enjoy quota-free access to the mainland market.

Yes, he is the self-proclaimed first astronaut of Hong Kong, and he sees the world with a strange sense of wit and angle. Echoes of the Rainbow revolves around the kid s struggling family: a shoe-maker father who treads in a pair of old torn sandals; a happy-go-lucky mother who believes that anything and everything is possible; an aspiring, starry-eyed elder brother who daydreams with his tropical fish; and our little hero who can proudly recite the 26 English alphabets backwards. And along with these characters, we travel back to a time when all things were new, all girls were charming, all grown-ups were unfathomable, and all stories were, simply, beautiful. This pushes office smokers to take their cigarette breaks in the street. Smokers from neighboring buildings gradually bond and form a new community known as "Hot Pot Pack," as they would gather around a trash bin with an ashtray, sharing small talks with raunchy jokes like they are at a hot pot dinner. While smoking in an alley packed with booming loudmouth co-workers and sharing explicit gossips and horror stories, he befriends a misfit cosmetics salesgirl Cherie who also likes to light up. An awkward romance soon blossoms amidst the anxiety of their nicotine rush. As they become more attached to each other, they also find themselves moving farther away from their regular hot pot pack into their own private alley, where their conversations suggest more emotional depths, covering the collision of reality and delightfully trivial matters of the bizarre people around them.

Ann Ko works doubly hard to bring Cheung Yat-tung to justice. But as Cheung is about to stand trial, Ann Ko s younger daughter, Ling, is kidnapped; to be returned only if she drops all charges against Cheung. Tong Fei suffers several near misses in his capture of the kidnapper, but Ann Ko refuses to work with him. Both Tong and Ann finally work together and free Ling, but while Ann leaves to bring Cheung to court, the kidnapper defeats Tong, and Ling, fleeing on her own, is involved in a dramatic and serious accident.
