The Rossendale 60 s Festival The Story So far The Rossendale 60 s Festival is now in its 6 th year and has established itself as the premier valley-wide event in Rossendale.

2 The Rossendale 60 s Festival The Story So far The Rossendale 60 s Festival is now in its 6 th year and has established itself as the premier valley-wide event in Rossendale. Its current Chair Barry Hyde founded the Festival in 2013 as an initiative that would provide a theme that both businesses and the community would buy into. It was seen as a Festival that supported a number of individual events that adopted the 60 s theme but the interpretation was left to each event organising group. The first year did attract a number of groups and businesses, and was seen to have great potential going forward. Pete Sweetmore Joined Barry in 2014 to provide further capacity to discuss and engage with businesses and community groups with a view to developing further events and express the opportunities for all to benefit. The Festival Organising Group now a constituted group of members that coordinates and promotes the Festival and has succeeded in developing the Festival to where it is now. The organisers have always seen the Rossendale 60 s Festival as distinctive in a number of ways. It has always encouraged the Rossendale community and businesses to get involved and engage with the festival and benefit from all of the opportunities presented to them as a consequence of the success of the Festival From its conception, the Festival has always been envisaged as a Valley Wide event, encompassing all that is synonymous with the 60 s era Putting Rossendale on the map as a preferred tourism destination The Rossendale 60 s Festival 2018 has increased both in size and diversity, while maintaining quality of the events which the organisers have developed over the past 5 years and has added new events and venues across the Valley The Rossendale 60 s Festival 2017 was recognised by the Northern Souls Awards Judging panel as one of the best Festivals in the Northwest and was shortlisted the Festival in the Music Festival of the Year

3 THE ROSSENDALE 60 S FESTIVAL 2018 PROGRAMME OF EVENTS: Dust off your flairs, shorten your skirts and prepare yourself for a fab and Groovy weekend of music, art and culture that will take you back to the swinging 60 s era. Throughout the Rossendale valley there is lots happening to get excited about Pre-Festival Events There are two pre-festival events happening on the evening of Thursday 6 th September The Firepit Restaurant Bar and Grill in Rawtenstall will be hosting an acoustic artist to accompany the diners The Whitaker in Rawtenstall will be screening the 60 s documentary film My Generation, made in 2017 and narrated by Michael Caine. Friday 7 th September The Whitaker in Rawtenstall will be opening their weekend with a 60 s Quiz of Quizzes, which will test you on all things 60 s and promises to be wild and wacky. There will also be music from a live band REDD.(evening) The Crown Inn in Bacup will have popular singer Peter May singing hits from the 60 s (evening) Barrels (Rawtenstall Conservative Club) will be having a 60 s Disco and Fancy Dress, so get your fab gear out and get in the groove (evening) The Flying Scotsman will be returning to the Valley over weekend of the Rossendale 60 s Festival, and you will have the opportunity to view this 60 s icon at Rawtenstall station The White Lion Hotel in Rawtenstall have a great line up for the 60s Festival Weekend. Friday they will be hosting the brilliant Blackaways, an Irish country rock band (evening)

4 The Firepit Restaurant Bar and Grill in Rawtenstall will be treating its diners to sounds from the 60 s. So why not book a table (evening) The Duke of Buccleugh in Waterfoot will be hosting a 60 s Karaoke night (evening) The Casked Micropub will be getting into the groove with 60 s music and a 60 s dressed bar The Bacup Flowerpot Festival has been especially extended to include the 60 s weekend so why not pop down to Bacup and see the many imaginative displays The Popular 60 s themed Shop Window dressing Competition entries will be on display over the weekend, so look out for the 60 s shop window displays throughout the Valley Saturday 8 th September From 1.00pm, The Whitaker in Rawtenstall will have a full-on afternoon of 60 s family games. Pete Sweetmore will be your compere and DJ for the afternoon, and live bands J Bear and the Giants and The Loft People will be playing out in the courtyard with supporting acts until around 7.00pm. There will also be a display of classic Minis provided by members of the Oldham & District Mini Club Blind Tiger will be hosting singer Polly Holiday who will be performing popular 60 s songs through the afternoon, and in the evening the band Colour Me Pop will be playing everything 60 s The Firepit Restaurant Bar and Grill in Rawtenstall will have 60s influenced acts on all day, and on Saturday evening, they have a live band playing some 60 s tunes. The Popular 60 s themed Shop Window dressing Competition entries will continue to be on display over the weekend, so look out for the 60 s shop window displays throughout the Valley The White Lion Hotel in Rawtenstall will again be hosting The Rhythm Jets, a Superb 60s band who were fantastic last year and went down well with the audience (evening)

5 Rawtenstall Cricket Club are staging an exhibition and display of cricket and music memorabilia from the 1960 s in Rawtenstall. It will be a celebration of Rawtenstall Cricket Club throughout the 1960 s. The club will also be hosting an historical, audio and visual account of the music, bands and artists that played at the Astoria in Rawtenstall that included The Who, The Spencer Davies Group and The Hollies The Bacup Flowerpot Festival has been especially extended to include the 60 s weekend so why not pop down and see the many imaginative displays TESCO Rawtenstall and Haslingden, and ASDA Rawtenstall will be supporting the Festival with 60 s activities Haslingden Community Link are planning a series of activities that will celebrate both the 60 s era and the Haslingden community (details to be announced) New Kirk Fair, will this year be held at Newchurch Methodist Church, Turnpike from 1.00pm. They have a brilliant range of stalls and activities including Whack the Rat, a Worm Charming competition, a Human Fruit machine, Bottle stall, bric-a-brac/ toys, kids drawing and crayon table and lots, lots more The Casked Micropub will remain in the groove with 60 s music and a 60 s dressed bar The New Hare & Hounds in Stacksteads are hosting two bands Route 66 who will be play all the sixties music and then later in the evening the headline act The Beatles Revolution one of the premier Beatles tribute bands in the UK. Between sets they will be having 60 s disco music and prizes for the best fancy dress. The Flying Scotsman will be again be in Rawtenstall over the weekend of the Rossendale 60 s Festival, and you will have the opportunity to view this 60 s icon at Rawtenstall station Arty Party will be holding a 60 s community celebration at Rawtenstall Unitarian Church on Bank Street from pm. It will include Fab fancy dress, cool crafts, competitions, photo booth and groovy games

6 Sunday 9 th September Blind Tiger will be hosting singer and guitar player Mark Gavan, who will be performing his tribute to the 60 s The Crown Inn in Bacup will be hosting 60 s group Ranger from 4.30pm The Whitaker in Rawtenstall will be offering a real chill out afternoon with laid back acoustic music sets The Casked Micropub will be getting into the groove with 60 s music and a 60 s dressed bar The Boo Theatre in Waterfoot will be repeating their very popular Baby Boogie experience from pm The Firepit Restaurant Bar and Grill in Rawtenstall will have an afternoon of vinyl soul DJ sessions from 4.00pm onwards. The Popular 60 s themed Shop Window dressing Competition entries will be on display over the weekend, so look out for the 60 s shop window displays throughout the Valley
