2 a Guide to what s on... WELCOME KAF aims to bring Kidderminster Town Centre to life with a variety of music, contemporary dance, art workshops, theatre shows and much more! Our two-week-long festival will host both local and national talent worthy of celebration in our town and surrounding areas. Our theme this year is Strength and Resilience with entertainment focusing on three significant nationwide celebrations happening during 2018: The centenary of the end of the First World War, 100 years of women s right to vote and Circus 250 a UK-wide celebration of 250 years of circus! Visit our website to find out more about KAF and to keep up to date with what s on. 11th and 12th August Family Circus at Brinton Park Show times: 10am, 12.15pm, 2pm & 3.30pm We are beginning our festivals with two spectacular days of Happy s Circus family run Big Top Circus with no animals. Tons of laughter and plenty of audience participation during the show, filled with an exciting fusion of international artists. Tickets: Advanced bookings only Family tickets 4 people for 16/Group of 8 for 30 on OR 5 per person payable on the day. Suitable for all ages. 11th August Severn Valley Railway Live Music event Location: Severn Valley Railway Time: 7.45pm onwards Blind Lemon are headlining this fantastic music event for all to enjoy. They are an accomplished six-piece band renowned for their live performances that are guaranteed to get your feet moving. Tickets available on: 10 tickets per person. All ages. 13th - 17th August Empire Soldiers V by Metro-Boulot-Dodo Location: Music Room (town) Time: 11am - 2pm Breathtaking experience installation blending performance and technology to tell the compelling stories of the forgotten Caribbean soldiers of World War 1. Through Virtual Reality and 360º film this show brings a truly immersive experience that is emotive and unforgettable.

3 13th August Peace Tea Dance Location: St George s Church Time: 2pm - 4pm Come and enjoy classic music sounds and participate in some fancy ballroom/ waltz/quick step dancing! Too shy to dance? Sit down and enjoy some tea and cake instead in celebration of the post-ww1 peace time! Tickets: 5 payable on the day (includes tea and cake) or Tea Dance tickets can be obtained from Jan Ferguson on and Lynn Towler on Adults (18+) 15th August Plink & Boo workshop by Can t Sit Still Location: Corn Exchange (TH) Time: 11am-12pm and 2pm-3pm Combining acrobatics, live music, audience interaction and A LOT of toys, Plink and Boo is a circus theatre experience for little people and their grown ups that playfully explores why sometimes people can t fit into boxes, even if it s the neatest place to put them. Tickets: 5 per child and accompanying adults go free (max 2) (so family of 4 including 2 adults and 2 children total cost: 10) Age: 2-5 yr olds with accompanying adults. 11th - 26th August Deeds Not words Film Screening Location: Swan Pub Courtyard Time: 10am 4pm A short film inspired by local connections to the fight for women s suffrage. Produced by The Community Broadcast Company especially for this year s KAF. Did you know that Emmeline Pankhurst, leader of the British suffragette movement, actually spoke at the Town Hall? Keep an eye out for nearby suffragettes and policemen who will tell you more! Throughout the Festival 15th August Daughter s of the Nations Arts Etc Location: Museum of Carpet Time: 2pm and 7pm This is an Arts etc Theatre production in Association with the Workers Education Association. The performance will be focused around the suffragettes valiant and unforgiving efforts in fighting for women s right to vote. Refreshments will be provided. Tickets: 3 (children free). Suitable for Adults and children over 10 years. 16th August Do Day Location: Corn Exchange (CE) Time: 1pm - 3pm Head down to our exciting Do Days filled with plenty of free arts and crafts activities for your children, surrounding the Strength and Resilience theme of KAF Materials provided. Free. Children of all ages. 16th August Woodland Sessions Location: Hurcott pool and woods Time: 7pm - 8pm Attend our acoustic sessions in some of our prettiest nature reserves, and listen to the musicians playing a variety of music. Enjoy a drink and some pizza from our ranger shack (charges apply) as you listen to music from great local bands. Follow signs to venue. No need to book - just turn up! All ages.

4 17th August Circus-themed Pop-up Poetry Workshop by Arts Etc Location: Council Chamber, Town Hall Time: 6pm 8pm Come along to this FREE circus themed pop-up poetry event. A chance to practice your poetry skills, or simply come and watch the show in action. Day schedule: Rehearsal from 1-2pm and show time from pm. Refreshments will be provided. Free. Ages 12+ Flash Mob Rock Choir Location: Town Centre Time: 3pm Why not see our surprise Rock Choir flash mob liven up Kidderminster town centre with their beautiful voices? All acts are likely to surprise us all! Shed of Stories Location: Exchange Place (outside TH) Time: 10am - 3pm Stories will be told from the pop-up shed by performers in a variety of ways - both inside and outside the shed space. Classic tales are told as well as new writing and even improvised stories sure to make the children laugh and giggle. Free. Suitable for ages 2-11 Children. Club Shed by Wet Picnic Location: Exchange Place (outside TH) Time: 10am - 3pm A micro experience that will unshackle its audience and give them the chance to dance! Club Shed is a small scale installation delivered via headphones, where the audience select 1 of 4 themed night out experiences. The experience takes them through a number of moments and culminates in them being able to let themselves go via sheer dancing pleasure. Free for Public. Ages 8+. Day 1 of Kidderminster Fringe Festival Location: Worcester Street & Coronation Gardens Time: 1pm music starts Check out our exciting 2-day Fringe Festival which includes The paint Jam featuring artists from across the UK painting live throughout the day. This will be accompanied by live music from various bands with food and drink available to purchase from stalls. Free entry. 19th August Day 2 of Kidderminster Fringe Festival Location: Worcester Street & Coronation Gardens Time: 1pm music starts KAF are partnering with the Fringe Festival to provide 2 days of a wide selection of music including: XSLF, Blackballed, Stiff Joints, The Humdrum Express, Bleeding Hearts, Skewwhiff, Flat Stanley, Suckerpunch, Sister Sandwich, Rouen, Teddy Matthews, Crows & Crosses and many more. Music kicks off at 1pm on both days. Free entry.

5 23rd August Do Day Location: Corn Exchange room in Town Hall Time: 1pm music starts Head down to our exciting Do Days filled with plenty of free arts and crafts activities for your children, surrounding the Strength and Resilience theme of KAF Materials provided. Free entry. Children of all capable ages. 24th August Woodland Sessions Location: Spennells Valley Nature Reserve Time: 9pm - 10pm Attend our acoustic sessions in the Spennells nature reserve and listen to the musicians playing a variety of music. Enjoy a drink and some pizza from our ranger shack (charges apply) as you listen to music from great local bands. Follow signs to venue. No need to book - just turn up! All ages. Crafts Market Location: Exchange Place Time: 10am - 4pm Witness local craft stalls that will be set up in the exchange place outside the town hall. If you are interested in setting up a stall check the website: and explore the craft fayre information.. All ages welcome. Dancefest Performance Location: Exchange Place Time: 1pm and 2pm The amazing dancefest will be performing 2 dances for us in the exchange place outside the town hall. The dances will represent the themes strength and resilience to appropriately help us commemorate the incredible land girls of WW1. Mimika Theatre Location: Music room of TH Time: 11am, 1pm and 3pm Mimika Theatre present a wordless production for children set inside a beautiful white calico tent. The stunning artistic performance has evocative soundtrack and uses puppets & miniature landscapes to truly engage the children to the show. Tickets: 5 per child and accompanying adults go free (max 2) (so family of for 2 adults and 2 children total cost: 10 payable on the day) any additional persons 5 each. Ages 5-11 but everyone is welcome. Land Girls by Swank Location: TBC Time: TBC Meet Vera and Lynn, the very British cockney girls doing their bit to win the war, dispensing good cheer and the Dunkirk community spirit. With old time sing-a-longs, ration books and food parcels Vera and Lyn are watching out for the yanks, bartering silk stockings and keeping those home fires burning. Roll out the barrel, don t worry, we ll meet again! Keep calm and carry on Digging for victory Throughout the Festival 11th - 26th August Clik Clik Collective Exhibition Location: Corn Exchange (Town Hall) Time: 10am - 1pm The corn exchange will feature a feast for the eyes with a Peoples Gallery & artists circus-themed work throughout the duration of this year s festival. A must see. All ages. Free.

6 Tapestry Screening plus other films Location: Corn Exchange, Town Hall Time: Doors and bar open from 6.15pm A short narrative film following the hopes and dreams of George, a factory engineer. Inspired by the heritage of the area s carpet industry, and dedicated to those who loved and lived within it. Introduced by Mark Oakes of Bond Worth Carpets, followed by a brief Q&A Session with the Director and Producer of The Community Broadcast Company. Refreshments included. Tickets: 2.50 in advance (contact Coralie on ) and 3 on the door. Under 16s are free. 26th August Greatest Showman Sing-a-long Screening Location: Music room of TH Time: Doors open at 6.30pm Come along to our screening of The Greatest Showman sing-a-long version to help us celebrate 250 years of circus! This extravaganza will mark the closing of this year s KAF so do not miss out. There will be face painters for children, circus acts, popcorn and candyfloss sure to make a fabulous day out for the family or with friends. Tickets: 5 per ticket.
