2 THANK YOU FOR JOINING US FOR LITTLE THEATRE COMPANY S PRODUCTION OF ABIGAIL S PARTY. Just 4 weeks after our musical extravaganza Legally Blonde we bring you possibly the most famous one-off situational farce of all time, the darkly comedic Abigail s Party. In November 1977 the BBC s Play for Today first broadcast this suburban satire by Mike Leigh, an abridged teleplay version of the Hampstead Theatre production. Having somewhat of a cult following Abigail s Party is considered a classic as no other original theatre play has made such a lasting impact. The plays popularity is probably due to its effortless ability to make observational comment on what was identified in the 1970 s as the new British-middle class. The so called nouveau riche is still pushing itself in to the light; though the parameters of what is considered de rigueur have altered and the clothes may have dated, the fundamental formula will never change. We hope you will return to the main house of this beautiful theatre in October to join us for something completely different, our next musical production, the hauntingly beautiful JEKYLL & HYDE! Darren Harper Chairman Synopsis Beverly and estate agent husband Laurence have invited round new neighbours Tony and Ange and nervous divorcee Sue, twitchy about the party her fifteen-year-old daughter, Abigail, is throwing. As Beverly plies the guests with alcohol, cigarettes, Demis Roussos and nibbles, this horribly compelling evening descends into drunkenness and debauchery. The action takes place in the sitting room of Beverly and Laurence s wonderfully tacky, mid 70 s middle class North London home on the evening of Abigail s party.

4 Lianne Larthe Jamie Redgate Caris Young Julian Cottee Sarah PettiCan Andy Gourley Kim Newcombe Beverly Moss Laurence Moss Angela Cooper Tony Cooper Susan Lawson Director Production Stage Manager Lianne has been a member of LTC for 8 years but Abigail s Party is her first play with the company. She has been lucky enough to play some fantastic roles over the years, which include Mimsie (Summer Holiday), Lottie (Mac & Mabel), Ronette (Little Shop of Horrors), Maggie Jones (42nd Street), Alexandra Spofford (Witches of Eastwick), Cinderella s Stepmother (Into The Woods) and most recently, Paulette Bonafonte (Legally Blonde). Although Lianne is accustomed to performing in musicals, she is looking forward to the challenge of taking on the role of Beverly. Jamie found himself on the stage at age eleven in a school production of Joseph, playing Joseph, and has been hooked ever since. This is his 15th show with LTC and has been fortunate enough to have played various roles over the years: Anthony (Sweeney Todd), Cyril (Summer Holiday), Dennis (All Shook Up), Scarecrow (Wizard of Oz), and more recently, The Baker (Into the Woods). He has also enjoyed performing in the LTC chorus for shows such as: Little Shop of Horrors, Jesus Christ Superstar and Legally Blonde. This is Jamie s first play for LTC, he misses the intermittent placement of songs because it means he has had to learn more dialogue! When not on stage you will probably find Jamie penning his novel, or in the corner of the room, asleep. Caris has been involved in musical theatre from the age of 11 where she performed regularly with a company for kids. After recently taking three years out for university, she was thrilled to join LTC as a new member in October Caris has had a brilliant time so far, performing in Legally Blonde in April. Other than the role of Nancy in Oliver!, Caris has mostly enjoyed playing evil nasty roles such as The Evil Queen in Snow White. The part of Angela gives Caris a chance to explore her nicer - if slightly thicker - side. She also relishes the comedy aspect of this role, comedy being something she really enjoys performing. Abigail s Party is Julian s 9th show with LTC and his 2nd play with the company having played Bernard in last year s Boeing Boeing. Other principle roles include Trekkie Monster (Avenue Q), Narrator/Mysterious Man (Into the Woods) and most recently Carlos (Legally Blonde). Julian has found Tony to be an interesting character, as it has been a new experience to play such a surly and, to an extent, nasty character. Julian currently serves as an Elected Member on the Committee and outside of the company works as a secondary school history teacher. Sarah has been a member of LTC for 2 years and Abigail s Party marks her fifth show with the company after having recently played the principle role of The Witch in Into The Woods. Sarah started performing locally at the age of seven. At the age of 11 she joined the National Youth Music Theatre and stayed with them for the next 10 years. As a member of the NYMT she was lucky enough to perform at such prestigious venues as The Royal Opera House and The Sylvia and Danny Kaye Theatre on Broadway during two tours to New York. She was also privileged enough to play at The Royal Albert Hall for Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber s 50th Birthday Celebrations. Andy has been involved in amateur theatre since 1978 and has performed for a number of societies in the area. In addition to solo performances in revues and Old Time music halls, Andy has taken many leading roles including; Francis Fryer in Calamity Jane, Wang Ta in Flower Drum Song, Oscar Lindquist in Sweet Charity, Billy Bigelow in Carousel, Tommy Albright in Brigadoon, Professor Harold Hill in Music Man, Bill Hickock in Annie Get Your Gun, Donald in Irene, Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, Petruchio in Kiss Me Kate, Eric Rubberlegs Devene in A Slice of Saturday Night and RJ in Singing in the Rain. Most recently, Andy took the role of Cinderella s father in Little Theatre Company s production of Into The Woods which won the NODA award for best musical This is Andy s debut as a director and he looks forward to this new challenge. This is Kim s 12th show with LTC. After a 2 show break to allow time to concentrate on a new job she is back and loving working in the Dixon again ( The Odd Couple 2014). The small cast and crew and close proximity to the audience make for a very intense experience for all. Abigail s Party is a favourite of Kim s as it reminds her of her childhood. Searching for authentic props has become a bit of an obsession! This amateur production of Abigail s Party is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.
