2 Ralph Indie Program 2016 Welcome to the inaugural season of Ralph Indie, a new curated annual program of independently produced performance works presented by Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres. Ralph Indie supports artists to develop and present new performance works in the Ralph Wilson theatre at Gorman Arts Centre. By offering artists the time and space needed to explore bold and brave artistic ideas, Ralph Indie encourages innovation, experimentation and cross-disciplinary investigations in the performing arts. Named after the acclaimed and muchloved Canberra director, the late Ralph Wilson, the Ralph Wilson Theatre honours Ralph Wilson s legacy of powerful and engaging contemporary theatre-making. We invite you to join us as we embark on the Ralph Indie adventure, and we congratulate the participating artists on what promises to be a compelling season of new works. Walls, ceilings and binds of various kinds restrict their movement, but an obstacle to one is a step up to another. Can they talk their way out? Alison Plevey and Solco Acro will challenge and delight in this original and provocative contemporary and aerial dance work, accompanied by virtuoso vocalist Ruth O Brien. 4 WHEN TICKETS Credits Season: 2 November 4 November $20 (all tickets) Project director: Zsuzsi Soboslay Anthems and Angels: The Compassion Plays is also supported by Monash University and Companion House. Anthems and Angels: The Compassion Plays Zsuzsi Soboslay, a theatremaker and community artist, will create a participatory theatre event on the theme of thresholds and transitions. Her work has involved several years of research on the refugee condition. Development time includes working with some of Canberra s refugee community, Photo: Andrew Sikorski and in a series of professional workshops, giving performing artists and musicians skills in reciprocation and exchange. The project, modelled on the medieval Everyman and Mystery plays, will create a magical event where people can move through stations of experience, swap stories and roles, or just listen and rethink our relationship with transitions, home, homelessness, and change.

Chase her cat from the shadows of your house. But when your cows start shaking, your husband won t sleep with you, your wife s baby turns blue? Find something to burn. Let it go up in smoke. Burn your troubles away. New experimental arts collective COUP: Canberra presents Caryl Churchill s Vinegar Tom, a play about the witch trials in 17th century England. This period piece will be cut loose from time and place, featuring a stunning line up of seven experimental music acts from dream pop to math rock to tell the story of a community who find themselves under the threat of a witch. You don t like to think it of your neighbour, but if you see something, who s to say it s not true? Vinegar Tom is presented by arrangement with ORiGiN Theatrical, on behalf of Samuel French, Ltd.

6 About Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres Ainslie and Gorman are twin arts centres, located in Braddon ACT. In addition to our curated artistic program, the centres host over 42 resident artists and arts organisations, including five of the ACT s Key Arts Organisations.
