3 Synopsis Makan Cosmopolitan is the first play in a series of theatre and dining interdisciplinary performances produced and developed by Ape Studios Pte. Ltd. Through the process of devising with 3 culturally diverse actors; Ebi Shankara, Gloria Tan and Mish'aal Syed Nasar, it has enabled mul -disciplinary writer, Zulfadli Big Rashid to explore the themes of emo onal a achment and involvement in Singapore through a narra ve that is set in the heart of Singapore, a hawker centre. Watch familiar characters that you o en see as you queue up in line to get your favourite Nasi Lemak, as they discourse about food culture and its place in Singapore today. A Singapore that is becoming more and more of a global society, and forcing them to learn to cul vate new interac ons as the hawker centre is visited by more and more locals and foreigners. Experience the food that brings them apart, bring them together. The food is carefully curated from the narra ve itself by our collaborator, Chef Roy. The project encompasses the culture of a regular Singaporeans and their daily lives which takes a very theatrical approach in its crea on process. The process experiments with the themes curated beforehand and devising a new Singaporean script that tells the story of our audience, the people in Singapore. The script highlights behaviors and habits that seem personal but are uniquely Singaporean. Essen ally, we would like our audience just to have a good me over a good meal. As ar stes, we would like the audience to take away a piece of Singaporean heritage and culture through the stories told and the food associated with these stories.

6 About Our Creatives About Our Creatives Kaykay Nizam, Director Khairulnizam or more affec onately known as Kaykay Nizam began as a street dancer in Fantas c Four Crew, the largest dance crew in Singapore and now a member in the alumnus group, Fantas c All Stars. Kaykay graduated from the BA in Theatre Arts (Ac ng) programme from NA- FA(Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts) and is now serving as the Company Director of Ape Studios Pte. Ltd. Kaykay is also a core member of Kaizen M.D, a mul disciplinary collec ve specializing in contemporary arts. He began ac ng on stage in the BA (Hons) Theatre Arts produc on of Beyond The Horizon in his freshman year. From then on, he s played roles such as Mr. Samsa in NAFA s 75th Anniversary produc on of The Metamorphosis and most recently as Jebat in Cinta Tuah Jebat, a site-specific dance on Pulau Ubin, a commissioned piece for State of Mo on by the Asian Film Archive. Other Theatre credits include; Makan Ha, by Farhanah Diyanah, Main Tulis Group in Night Fes val 2018, Move, As We Move wri en and performed by Kaykay, produced by The Kaizen M.D., Adukku Veetu Annasamy, by RDG, an Esplanade Commissioned produc on for the Kalaa Utsavam Fes val, where Kaykay served as an actor and a Produc on Manager, and Singapore: Inside, Out, a travelling showcase of Singapore Ar st to celebrate Singapore s 50th birthday that performed in Beijing, London and New York before the jubilee performance in the heart of Singapore.

Ebi Shankara graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2008 with a Diploma in Theatre. He then furthered his studies in 2011-12 to gain First Class Honors Degree in Ac ng.

7 Ebi Shankara graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2008 with a Diploma in Theatre. He then furthered his studies in to gain First Class Honors Degree in Ac ng. Shankara s love for ac ng started when his secondary school s drama society par cipated in the first ever island wide Singapore Youth Fes val in He landed the main role of Hamlet in the adapted version of Hamlet. His school won a Gold Medal in this coveted compe on and the experience sealed Ebi s own growing love for ac ng and drama. His credits began to rise as he joined Buds Theatre in 2004 as well as The Young Company with Singapore Repertory Theatre and worked once again with Wild Rice on, Cinderellah! and Oi! Sleeping Beauty. Shankara was chosen by the Na onal Arts Council to represent Singapore as a performer in the ASEAN Youth Camp held in Brunei. He was one in only five candidates chosen. Shankara s commercial fame came in 2007 when he won Vasantham Star (the Indian version of Idol by MediaCorp). In 2008, he finished his two ter ary gradua on plays Zero, a collabora on with theatre Mandiri from Indonesia and Metamorphosis directed by acclaimed Australian director John Clarke. Later that year, he had the greatest honor to host Singapore s Na onal Day Parade at the Marina Bay Floa ng Pla orm. Other lead role credits since then include Horse in Pangdemonium s produc- on of The Full Monty, Reza in Alia Bano s controversial play Shades which was also brought to Bangladesh for the 1st Bangladesh Arts Fes val as representa ves of Singapore, Captain Sco in Eugene O Neill s Beyond The Horizon, Creon in Sophocles An gone, Othello in Shakespeare s Othello, Krishna in Michael Chiang s Army Daze The Musical and Samson in Michael Chiang s High Class. Ebi Shanakra is also the Ar s c Director of Ravindran Drama Group Company. Ebi Shankara is very inspired and honored to be given these opportuni es. He hopes to make the best out of future opportuni es that is given to him and through it learn more about Drama sharing what he has learnt with many Ebi Shankara, Actor others who share the same interest and passion in Drama and Theatre.

Gloria Tan a ended NYAS (New York Ac ng School Singapore) from age 13-15 and went on to NAFA (Nanyang Academy of fine arts) and graduated in 2009.

8 Gloria Tan a ended NYAS (New York Ac ng School Singapore) from age and went on to NAFA (Nanyang Academy of fine arts) and graduated in Upon gradua on, Gloria worked with leading Malay theatre companies Gloria Tan, Actor and eventually won the Life! Theatre Best Ensemble award for Bilik/Ahmad. She is a familiar face on TV and has shot for several TV drama series in Singapore; Bff, Nora Wedding Concepts, Rempuh, Show Malam Ini and Kecoh-Kecoh Ramadan just to name a few. In 2014, she acted in her first movie, 'Banting' the Film, which premiered in Singapore (sold out), Malaysia and Thailand. Her passion is Social-Realism Theatre and working with youths and young-adults to create shows that will reflect the current affairs of the world. In 2016, she performed for M1 FringeFest in a movement-based one-woman show tled Kancil: The chronicles of One and Zero (Fes val Highlight) which sold out a week before opening and received standing ova ons for every show, immediately a er, she was commissioned by Channel New Asia to devise a piece on depression in Youths which premiered in March 2016 tled My name is Jamie. In 2013 and 2014, Gloria traveled and toured with Osaka's cri cally acclaimed theatre company, Gumbo theatre and event went to Minamisanriku to perform children's theatre for the vic ms of the tsunami. She has graced the stages in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Every 2 years, she invests heavily her me in E-Mo ons in Jakarta for Gigi Art of Dance for their yearly musical where she es it in with major humanitarian organisa ons e.g. World Wildlife Federa on Indonesia. In early 2017, her piece, #ToABe erhome held at Teater Besar Taman Ismail Mazuki in Jakarta sold out to an audience of four thousand. Gloria is on the board of Singapore's first ever Asian Youth Theatre Fes val which incorporates a cross cultural exchange between teens of different countries. She will return to Osaka end of 2017 and 2018 to perform with Gumbo Theatre on Mt Myoken, Osaka. She is a strong believer in educa on of youths through theatre, for it is through theatre can we change, educate and heal.

Zulfadli was the resident playwright of Panggung Arts ( ) and has wri en and adapted numerous plays staged by various companies and freelance performers presented in various notable arts fes- vals. Besides playwri ng, he also dabbles in poetry recitals and performance art when such opportuni es arise. Looking forward to the future, Zulfadli hopes to work with ar stes across disciplines, languages, cultures, and na onali es to con nue to create works that will entertain, enlighten, and inspire. Mish aal is a Fes val Coordinator for the M1 Singapore Fringe Fes val. He is also a freelance theatre prac oner and his stage credits includes, Bililk Ahmad Berdaki (M1 Singapore Fringe Fes val), Joget Abang Joget (Ponggurl), Ziarah (Teater Ekamatra) and Dan Tinggal Tiga Baju Raya (Panggung Arts).
