1 Good Neighbor Club Newsletter April May June 2017 Betty Marthaler, Good Neighbor Club Director Dear Good Neighbor Club Members, It is amazing now fast these three months have flown by many of our Good Neighbor Members enjoyed a 2 week holiday in Palm Springs where we were able to tour Warner Brothers in Burbank we had a chocolate tour in LA with an amazing guide to tell us about the area no trip is complete without the Reagan Library which was enjoyed by everyone. While I am talking about Palm Springs, we have dates held for January 22nd through February 3rd of It is not too early to start thinking and planning your 2018 winter getaway look for details in our June Newsletter. If you are at the point in life where you wish not to go overseas, Palm Springs would be an excellent spot to spend a couple weeks. In this newsletter, you will also find information about our Panama Canal Cruise including Costa Rica and the New Locks. 2 Minnesota State Capitol Tuesday, May 2nd I have been asked if we might be able to do a tour of the Capitol now that is has been re-opened after the big renovation has been completed. I have also been able to set up a meeting with Senator Lang and Rep. Baker to meet with our group. We will meet with them at 10:00 am in the Senate Office building followed by a guided tour of the Capitol. After our tour, we will depart for lunch at Fabulous Ferns before we depart back to Willmar. Gerten s Inver Grove Heights Monday, May 8th We will once again make our annual plant shopping day to Gerten s stop for lunch and a little time for shopping at the Eden Prairie Center. The Chico s store in Eden Prairie Center will have little desserts for our group along with everyone that makes a purchase will have their name put in a drawing for a prize from Chico s. They will have extra staff on that day as they know they might be busy. We will have a coupon for $5.00 off a $25.00 purchase as a thank you for shopping at Gerten s. 3 Mystery Trip Tuesday, June 13th Many of you have asked for another Mystery Trip - well guess what?!?! I am not sure what direction we will go? What we will do? But I do have a date set, and I do hope you will be able to join us and when you get home that evening, you will have had fun and maybe, just maybe, you will have been some place you have not been before! Departure times are unavailable, and you will be notified before our departure date on our exact departure times. Inspired by the Academy-Award winning film, An American in Paris is the romantic story about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war. We will meet at Salsbury Beach for an included picnic lunch and will begin boarding the pontoons at 12:45 for our 2 hour pontoon ride or 2 hour fishing excursion. I have scheduled both pontoons so when you make your reservation, please indicate which you would like to do: fishing or boating. 4 Ghost The Musical Old Log Theatre Wednesday, September 13th Adapted from the hit film by its Academy Award-winning screenwriter, Bruce Joel Rubin, GHOST THE MUSICAL follows Sam and Molly; a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam s untimely death. Trapped between two worlds, Sam refuses to leave Molly when he learns she is in grave danger. Desperate to communicate with her, he turns to a storefront psychic, Oda Mae Brown, who helps him in the hope of saving and protecting Molly. Duluth October 3rd-October 5th Our plans for a Fall Trip to Duluth are underway. We will depart Tuesday, October 3rd and return on the evening of October 5th. Our lodging will be at the Black Bear Casino. Many of you know Stan and Sally from Duluth, and they will be adding some of their expertise as to some of the things we will do while there. Full plans, price, etc will be in the July Newsletter but it is NOT too early to put it on your calendar so that you will be able to join us. As they did last time, they will find some hidden treasures that we will see and also some great places to eat. Heart of Alaska Cruise Tour The Good Neighbor Club has a great trip planned to Alaska during the dates of August 28th September 9th. We will spend 2 nights in Fairbanks: 1 night in Denali National Park, 1 night at McKinley Wilderness, and 1 night in Anchorage. We will enjoy transportation by motor coach rail and have the opportunity to enjoy the River Boat Discovery as we cruise down the Tanana River. After this we will board our ship and experience cruising at its best as we enjoy Hubbard Bay, Glacier Bay, and various ports of call. Our space is limited so please call if you are interested, and I will send you a detailed itinerary of our trip and pricing details. Panama Canal Cruise February 15 th February 26 th The Good Neighbor Club is sponsoring a Panama Canal Cruise! We will arrive in Fort Lauderdale and overnight t a waterfront hotel. The next morning, we will a enjoy city tour of Miami and Fort Lauderdale before we board The Caribbean Princess. From this majestic ship you will see the engineering marvel that is the Panama Canal and experience the new locks, pristine islands, and unforgettable ports. Even if you have travelled through the Panama Canal in the past, this is one trip you should look into as our ports are entirely different. Our port stops will be: Prince Cays, Bahamas Cartegena, Columbia Panama Canal (scenic cruising) Limon, Costa Rica Grand Caymen Islands Our prices start at $2,999 per person and include all port taxes, airfare, and transfers.
