3 From The Artistic Director For however talented we may secretly think ourselves to be, we remain in the great scheme of things relative mediocrities. It is only genius that rarest and most precious of states that is unaffected by fashion and indifferent to competition... -Peter Hall It is with great pride and gratitude that I welcome you to BoHo s second production of our landmark 10th Season: Peter Shaffer s Amadeus. For every theatrical artist, there is one show that permeates the core of our soul in a way that is profoundly beautiful... and a little frightening. For me, Amadeus is that show. Though there is a grandeur and theatricality to the show with its intricate language, history, musicality, style and period, at its heart it is one man s struggle with his own fears: fear of mediocrity, of mortality, of being forgotten, and the fear of being neglected (and perhaps even punished) by his God. Shaffer has unearthed a deeply personal and utterly relatable question that I would venture to say we all have wondered: Will I be remembered? As I look back at my time with BoHo and this family of artists that I have shared so many years with, I find solace from those fears. I find a history of strength, friendship, truth, passion, love, compassion, beauty, and a profound sense of freedom from fears that might otherwise paralyze me. To the countless number of artists and friends that have been a part of this and every story our company has told: thank you. Peter Marston Sullivan Artistic Director Become a Pillar of the Arts!
