3 Welcome to GOOD DESIGN AWARD nd screening The second screening panel will be held in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong respectively. The venue will be appointed based on the provided application information and advised to the applicants by the organizer. In any case, the screening will be executed with the physical product (the original working product) and registered application information of the entry. Therefore, all the applicants are requested to submit the physical product. The jury will make the judgment considering the significance and intent of the products by trying, handling and experience them, considering the provided information. The second screening is closed doors in principle. However, for the purpose to make the judgment more accurate, we offer the opportunity to join interactive hearing to all applicants. This is supplementary screening measure and whether the applicant joins or not is optional. The Implementation outline of the second screening TOKYO, JAPAN This is your 2nd screening venue. 4 The detail requirements for the 2nd screening 1. About the physical product [Physical product of the entry Obligatory] Place all the registered physical products of the entry in the condition jury members can try or handle freely. In the case the product has color variation without any functional difference, just representative product is required. [In the case the physical product is not finished] If the product is not yet finished as of the 2nd screening time, mock-up can be placed instead. However, if the mock-up doesn t have the same function as actual production and jury presumes the final production would be different in outside and function from the mock-up, the entry might be judged as disqualifi ed. [In the case without physical products] If the entry is architecture, heavy/large items or projects, etc.., one vertical type A1 size (H841mm x W594mm), mounted on the 5 mm thick board graphic panel is requested as a substitute of the physical product. Please include outline of the entry and the points of the design in the panel. [In the case the entry is public works or architecture] One Graphic panel in A1 size, vertical type and Supplementary material within 10 pages in A3 size (H297mm x W420mm), horizontal type are requested. Regarding the A1 graphic panel, please make it so that the jury members could understand and grab the outline and important points of your entry from one panel. The specifications for the material are shown below. [Specifi cations of the A1 graphic panel] Please make one graphic panel in A1 size (H841mm W594mm), mounted on the 5 mm thick board in vertical type. 1. Considering the "Screening perspectives", express the most important point of your entry briefl y, with texts or charts. 2. Photos of both interior and exterior. Even in the case your entry is interior design only, both of those photos are requested. 3. Ground plan (In the case of high-rise building, the plan for just basic fl oor plan is enough, but should include residential area.) 4. Construction of the building/architecture (for example, wooden, iron framework, etc.) 5. Photos and brief explanation texts to show the context/relation with surrounding environment. 6. Please ensure to include Entry No. on back side of the board. * Make it the jury could understand the outline and important points of your entry. * Especially, feature the points you considered and contrived. [Specifi cations of the supplementary material] As a supplement of the A1 graphic panel, please make a booklet in A3 size (H297xW420) horizontal, within 10 pages. 1. Cover page - please enter your entry number on the top right. The top cover page is not included in the 10 pages. You can include images or texts on the cover. 2. Outline - briefl y explained concept and substance of the design. 3. The map indicates the location, photos and brief explanation texts to show the context/relation with surrounding environment (not necessarily required in the case such as prefabricated housing without any specifi c location) 4. The specifi cations of the building/architecture (use, number of the fl oors, construction, square measure list and interior/ exterior fi nishing material list of the main part of the building, etc.) 5. Ground plan (fl oor layout, plane fi gure, elevation drawings, etc.) The scale is not specifi ed. 6. Photos * Binding method is not specifi ed. * If the material explains the contents on the A1 graphic panel, please clarify the part on the panel you mentioned. * Please bear in mind to make a brief and straightforward material jury members could understand the outline and intention/ substance of the design.

5 [Supplementary material - Optional] If there are any other supplementary material to encourage further understanding of the entry, you can place as far as it is within the assigned space. 2. Possible size to be carried in An entry should be placed within W3m x D3m space (in the case on the table, W3m x D1m) flat space at maximum. Cars can be W3m x D6m. No special construction works or covering for installation are allowed. 3. Entry number representation requested During the 2nd screening process, the entries might be moved. To avoid any mix-up or loss, please ensure to write or paste a sticker of your entry number anywhere inconspicuous position on your entry. 4.Electrifying During the 2nd screening, the entries of electric appliances will be electrified for 24 hours in principle, though easy switch on/off system is appreciated. In the case you bring any electrified information equipment such as laptop or tablet as the supplementary material, please make and bring an operation manual including login ID and PW to play or restart, for just in case unexpected shut down of the power supply happened. 2nd screening look (from previous years) Substitute of the physical product Physical products only Physical products and supplementary material

6 About Interactive hearing Good Design Award offers Interactive hearing, the opportunity that applicants could have direct communication with jury members on the site. 1. The implementation outline of the interactive hearing - The interactive hearing will be implemented on August 2, at the 2nd screening venue at Tokyo Big Sight. - As this is supplementary screening measure, whether join or not is optional. - The interactive hearing will be executed by the category (screening unit) and will be timetabled. Applicants cannot enter the venue except assigned time slot. - The detail procedure and timetable of the interactive hearing will be advised by mid July, after the result notification of the 1st screening. - Interactive hearing will not be held for the entries in Unit 10, 11 and 12, architecture entries. 2. Rule for interactive hearing - One person per one entry is permitted. - In the case your company has multiple entries, one person can join the multiple interactive hearings. - The allocated time is 3 minutes at maximum per entry, including translation. It must be kept by all the applicants. 3. How to join - During the confirmation period of 2nd screening information (i.e. from June 29 to July 6), applicants are requested to fill in the necessary information for the participation on the Entry site. - The participants will be requested to be present at the location by the time on August 2, the organizer will advise. - After the registration at the entrance, step in the screening venue and stand by your entry. - As jury members will visit one by one, talk to them once your turn comes. - After the interactive hearing finished, please leave the venue immediately. 4. What you talk Generally, at the beginning, you are requested to explain the points of your entry for the first half of the 3 minutes and Q&A for the second half. There might be a possibility the explanation part is omitted by the jury members principle. 5. Terms and conditions of the interactive hearing - To enter the venue, both of "Registration document for the interactive hearing" and "Entry pass for the interactive hearing" are requested. Registrationdocument for the interactive hearing Interactive Hearing Pass You can download the format from your Entry site. Please print it out, paste your business card and bring it to the venue with yourself. It will be collected when you step out the venue. It will be handed at the registration counter on August 2. - Please be advised in advance that due to the route of the jury members visit, you might be requested to wait for a while. - Photo shooting and recording is prohibited. - Please do not listen to other hearings and hold back from any other disturbing behavior. - Please follow the instructions by the organizer.

7 Register information for the second screening Please specify Transportation method of your entries From June 29 to July 6, please fi ll in the second screening information such as required space, need electric wiring or not, etc. Especially, please specify how you install/dismantle your entry to/from the 2nd screening venue on your Entry Site account from following options. - Come to Japan and bring your entries to / from the venue - Ask your friend or representative offi ce in Japan - Place order to YAMATO LOGISTICS If you cannot come to Japan or don t have any representative in Japan, please place order to YAMATO LOGISTICS, t h e o f f i c i a l a s s i g n e d f o r w a r d e rb yj u l y12,a n d s e n d y o u r e n t r y t o t h e i r w a r e h o u s e t o r e a c h t h e m b y J u l y 17. Please DO NOT send your entry directly to the venue or organizer. The shipping details, order form and price list can be downloaded from the following link. You belong to Group B : ( Application procedures section 4-3) [Necessary Space] Basic space for 2nd screening (Included in the 2nd screening fee): W 1m x D 1m (1sqm), placement on the fl oor (no table) The space 1m x 1m and more, 17,280JPY of additional space fee will be charged per 1 sqm. The maximum size of an item available to be displayed at the screening venue is "3m x 3m" (for vehicle 3m x 6m). In the case you selected "Install on the table" the width would be up to 3m and depth is only 1m. [Method to install] Floor placement Table placement Additional cost for the table: 6,480JPY per 1sqm - Please be advised there is no carpet nor mat. - No partition, no backboard. In the case you bring any fi xture with backboard for your entry, please make the reverse of the backboard tidy. - You cannot screw the fl oor to fi x. Please make it surely freestanding. - No partition, no backboard. In the case you bring any fi xture with backboard for your entry, please make the reverse of the backboard tidy. - No screw, no glue on the table. In the case the table is damaged, repair cost will be charged. [Electric power supply (Optional)] In the case the entry requires electrifi ed to work, please place your entry with the power supplied, applying the pay electric power supply via Entry site account. [Other options] If you need panel stand or video player and you cannot bring them with your entry, we have them with charge. You can also apply them via Entry site account.

8 Installation & Dismantlement Guide Schedule If you can come to Japan and bring in/out your entry with yourself, please follow the schedule below. Installation : July 31 12:00 19:00 Dismantlement August 3 17:30 20:30 Second screening (Closed door) : August 1 and 3 Interactive hearing (Optional) : August 2 Venue EAST 1&2 HALLS, Tokyo Big Sight (3-11-1, Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo, , Japan) [by Train] Rinkai Line Approx. 7 minutes' walk from Kokusai-Tenjijo Station Yurikamome Approx. 3 minutes' walk from Kokusai-Tenjijo-Seimon Station Kokusai-Tenjijo Station Kokusai-Tenjijo- Seimon Station To enter the venue Please ensure to bring entry pass with you to install/dismantle your entry. To the applicants who chose to come to Japan and install /dismantle by yourselves as a transportation method on Entry Site, entry pass will be delivered in advance.

9 To install your entry July 31 12:00 19:00 1. Double check to which unit does your entry belong, and find reception counter per unit. The first 2 numbers next to the left end G of your entry number indicates your unit. For example, if your entry number is G020001, the first 2 numbers are 02. That means your entry belongs to unit 2. Please confirm the assigned location for your entry at the reception counter. 2. Place your entry at the allocated location, assemble and display. The location for your entry will be released on the website after mid July. 3. Please ensure to paste on sticker to show the entry number clearly on all of your entries. The sticker should be prepared by yourself. 4. After you have finished your installation, please report to the reception counter. 5. Secretariat staff will confirm the installation. 6. Get Confirmation form of your installed entry at the reception counter. Please keep the form until dismantlement. 7. Please ensure to finish by 19:00. *Please keep the assigned location for your entry and do not extend the size. *Electricity will be set up around 14:00 on July 31. If you need to check whether your entry works properly with electricity, please come to the venue around the time. *Please bring any necessary tools for your installation with yourself. We cannot supply electricity for the tools. Please bring a battery for them. *We cannot keep packing material in the venue. Please take them away with yourself. *You cannot nail, hole, glue, move or remove the items included in the display package. To dismantle your entry August 3 17:30 20:30 1. Visit your unit reception counter with the Confirmation form you received on the installation day. 2. Secretariat staff at reception counter checks the Confirmation form a n d y o u r e n t r y, t h e n a p p r o v e s d i s m a n t l e m e n t. 3. Disassemble, repackage and carry it out. 4. Please ensure to finish by 20:30 *Electricity for your entry will be shut down around 18:00 on August 3. *Please bring any necessary tools for your dismantlement with yourself. We cannot supply electricity for the tools. Please bring a battery for them. *If you wish to send your entry back by courier, please drop at YAMATO Transport service counter in the venue. (Domestic delivery only) *In case you didn t come to the venue to pick up your entry by 20:30, your entry will be automatically discarded. In that case, please advised that 5,000JPY of disposal fee will be charged in addition. 10 [Next steps after the 2nd screening] [Until the notification of the 2nd screening results] The results of the 2nd screening will be notified as from 13:00(JST) on September 6 on your Entry Site account. The entries passed 2nd screening are to be Good Design Award 2017 winner as from October 4, the award results announcement date. The days during September 6 to October 4 are lead time for the award announcement. Applicants are requested to hold back to release the result before October 4, official announcement date. [After the award results announcement] All the award winners are requested to participate in the Good Design Exhibition and be enrolled in the Yearbook. During September 6 to 13, all the necessary information for online gallery, Good Design Exhibition and Yearbook are requested to fill in the Entry Site account. *Oct 4 Announcement of award results, as well as Good Design BEST100 and candidates for Grand Award Oct 4 Oct 28 Grand Award candidates exhibition (tentative title) at GOOD DESIGN Marunouchi *Nov 1 Award night, Grand Award winner selection, Special Award winners announcement at Grand Hyatt Tokyo (Award winners and press only) *Nov 1 Nov 5 Good Design Exhibition at Tokyo Midtown Nov 1 Nov 13 My favorite award winner exhibition (tentative title) at GOOD DESIGN Marunouchi Dec 7 Awarding ceremony for Special Award winners at International House of Japan (Special Award winners and press only) Good Design Exhibition 2017 [All the award winners must participate in] Term: November 1 5, 2017 Venue: Tokyo Midtown Outline: All the award winners of 2017 are exhibited. The Grand Award, Gold Award and Special Award winners are announced on the first day of the exhibition. Full of special events such as BEST100 designers presentation, talk by jury members, workshops during the period. Please be advised that the space size for the Good Design Exhibition is different from 2nd screening. Good Design Award winners: 600mm 600mm per section *Only 1 section per one award winner item is available and in the case the product size laps over the allocated size, graphic panel is requested as a substitute. BEST100 winners: 900mm 900mm per section *For additional sections, additional space fee will be charged. Good Design Award 2017 Award Night ( For all Good Design Award winners) Date: November 1, :30 17:30 (to be confi rmed) Venue: Grand Hyatt Tokyo (Roppongi Hills) Outline: All the Good Design Award 2017 winners are invited and celebrate the award each other. In addition to the awarding ceremony, Grand Award winner selection and special award winners announcement will be implemented. You can pick up the award certificate on the day. Yearbook [GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2017] [Presented with compliments one book per one award winning item] Outline: All the Good Design Award 2017 winners are enrolled in the official yearbook.
