ABSOLUTELY NO CELLPHONES OR RECORDING DEVICES ALLOWED! Performance Dates: February 22 25, 2018 There is a MANDATORY Parent Meeting following each audition (5:30 5:45). Any child who auditions MUST have a parent representative at this meeting. Questions? us at: LPSSEF.board@gmail.com
2 Roald Dalh s Willy Wonka, Jr. Character Breakdown Ms. Hayley may combine or split some roles based on the size of the cast. Ms. Hayley has final say on all casting decisions. Willy Wonka (male): Willy Wonka is an enigmatic character; at once mysterious and mischievous but also charismatic. There are a number of directions to take with Wonka, ranging from Gene Wilder's version in the original film, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, to Johnny Depp's portrayal in the recent film, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and everything in between. Candy Man (male): The Candy Man sells Wonka candy in the Charlie s town and sells Charlie the Golden Ticket. Charlie Bucket (male): The role of Charlie is the emotional heart and soul of the musical. He is in nearly every scene! Grandpa Joe (male): Grandpa Joe is the grandfather we all wish we had when we were Charlie's age. He is caring, patient, sweet and always reminds Charlie to remain cheerful. The role sings a bit, but the singing is secondary. Mr. Bucket (male): This is a great role for a young person who has a nice voice, and is a natural nurturer. Mrs. Bucket (female): Mrs. Bucket is a natural nurturer. Phineous Trout (female or male): Phineous is the reporter who announces the winners of the Golden Ticket contest throughout the show. The role requires some singing. **We may split this role to have more than one reporter.** Augustus Gloop (male): Augustus is the overachieving eater who represents the evils of eating too much. His song is on the difficult side, but does not need to be sung with a polished pretty voice, in fact, the more character the better. **Augustus large size will be created by the costume.** Mrs. Gloop (female): Mrs. Gloop is Augustus' mother who has overindulged her son with food. She sings one of the more difficult songs. The role requires an actress who isn't afraid to take positive risks! Mike Teavee (male): For this adaptation Mike is not just a TV junky. He is also addicted to video games, the Internet and any other mind-numbing technological device. Mike is bratty, loud and obnoxious. He does not know the word "no." Ms. Teavee (female): Ms. Teavee is a take on all TV moms of the distant past. Think June Cleaver (Leave it to Beaver) or Marion Cunningham (Happy Days) or even Carol Brady (The Brady Bunch). She's perfectly put together and a bit vacant. Violet Beauregarde (female): Gum chewer extraordinaire, Violet hails from Snellville, Georgia, so it's nice if she has a Southern American accent, but not necessary. Violet is more of a blue collar, middle class brat. Mrs. Beauregarde (female): Mrs. Beauregard is a teacher of geography and has invested a great deal of hard-earned money on therapy for her orally fixated daughter, with less than stellar results. Veruca Salt (female): Veruca is the wealthy, class-conscious, spoiled brat. She is often portrayed with a high British accent that is by no means required (brats come in all nationalities). Veruca's solo is deceptively tricky. v Mr. Salt (male): Mr. Salt's solution to most problems is to buy his way out. He is upper class, and usually portrayed with a high British accent. Grandma Josephina, Grandma Georgina & Grandpa George : Charlie s other grandparents James (male): James is Charlie's friend from school. Matilda (female): Matilda is also a schoolmate of Charlie's, but she's a bit of bully. Oompa-Loompas Cooks News Camera Crew The Candy Man Kids Squirrels

5 Los Primeros School of Sciences & Arts PARTICIPANT ACTING CONTRACT FOR ROALD DAHL S WILLY WONKA, JR. In order to ensure a successful production, we have found it helpful to list the responsibilities of those involved. We have developed the following set of guidelines. 1. All participants are expected to attend all rehearsals for which they are scheduled, as well as all performances. 2. Rehearsals begin November 13 th. 3. BEGINNING JAN. 1 st, NO REHEARSALS OR PERFORMANCES CAN BE MISSED UNLESS DUE TO ILLNESS. Arriving late OR leaving early is the same as missing the entire rehearsal. Excessive absences can lead to dismissal from the show. It is our goal to create a positive experience for everyone, missed rehearsals impact the entire cast. We ask that doctor s appointments are not scheduled on rehearsal days. 4. School attendance is required to attend play rehearsal. If the student misses school due to illness or behavior problems, they may not attend rehearsal that day. If there are special circumstances, permission must be granted by Mrs. Burchell before the absence occurs. 5. Academic probation or failure to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, and/or a behavior problem (ie. 3 detentions) may result in a possible expulsion from the cast. Grade checks are at the discretion of LPSSA administration. 6. Only school-issued Chromebooks may be used during rehearsals. No other electronic devices may be used. Chromebook usage will be monitored using PVSD software. 7. Scripts and a pencil must be brought to all rehearsals. We highly recommend you also bring your homework. 8. Rehearsals are scheduled for 3:15pm-5:30pm Monday-Wednesday; 2:15pm-5:30pm on Thursdays; occasional Fridays as needed. Cast members will be called for specific blocks of time within those hours, but need to be available to attend when called. There is no childcare for those who are dismissed from school at 2 pm. If that is a problem, contact Kelly Sparks at the district, to set up joining the onsite childcare program at a fee. 9. Participants must be picked up on time and signed out at the ending time of each rehearsal. There are no early releases. THERE WILL BE NO STAFF SUPERVISION AFTER PERFORMANCES & BEFORE OR AFTER REHEARSAL. 10. Participants can bring dry HEALTHY snacks and water. Fast food is discouraged. Please avoid interrupting rehearsal to deliver food to cast members. 11. Participants are expected to have respect for the facilities in which they rehearse and perform. 12. Participants are expected to treat each other, the production staff and volunteers with respect and courtesy. This includes all directors, parent volunteers, stage managers, and other production workers. If you are being a disruption to the rehearsal process or do not practice respect, the director, foundation or Mr, Creadick may remove you from the production. 13. Beginning Thursday, February 1, 2018 rehearsals are at the 2222 Ventura Blvd, Pleasant Valley Auditorium site. PARENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE SITE. 14. The participant and at least one parent must attend a meeting at 5:30 on the audition days (November 6 th and November 7 th ). Participant/parent responsibilities and volunteer needs will be discussed at this meeting. 15. There is a production donation of $40.00 PER CAST MEMBER due by December 11 th This fee helps cover construction and rental of backdrops, and production costs such as sets, props. It also covers the additional costs of director, choreographer, and musical direction fees. 16. Each participant must provide his or her own costume, and makeup. Information will be provided regarding costumes, stage makeup and hairstyles. 17. Each cast member is required to provide a Snack Bar donation, such as drinks, candy or baked goods. This item will be assigned the first week of February. 18. 6 Los Primeros Educational Foundation Media Release & Teacher Notification Form Media Release Traditional media and social media coverage is vital to the success of our program. It provides us a platform to advertise our show in a cost-effective manner. The coverage often includes images of students during rehearsals and/or performances. Images may include students first names and ages/grades. Last names will not be included. Newspapers and other media organizations often provide media coverage about our performances with our permission. Additionally, LPSSEF, LPSSA and PVSD have newsletters, bulletins, websites, social media and blogs to share student activities. Students are sometimes interviewed, recorded, video-taped, and/or photographed for publication on these platforms. A photographic image of a student may be published or televised by LPSSEF, LPSSA, PVSD and public media. Photographic images include pictures, digital images, website images, videotapes, DVD s, televised images, etc. Images may appear on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. In addition, your child will be recorded on video during at least one performance. This recording will be available for purchase for by cast members and their families. This is a requirement to participate in our program. LPSSEF, LPSSA and PVSD cannot be held responsible for images or videos published by students, parents and audience members on any social media platforms through their private accounts. I/We GRANT permission to the Los Primeros Educational Foundation or parties designated by LPSSEF to use any likeness, including a photograph, video-tape, oral or written interview, for publication in any newspaper, social media or website that the LPSSEF and LPSSA have approved, including our own websites, Facebook and Twitter accounts.
