4 BIOGRAPHY DALE WARLAND Dale War land's mission is nothing less than the raising of choral music to a new standard. Consummate musicianship and attention to detail have been Dr. Warland's tools in building one of the finest choral groups in the United States. In addition to his active schedule as Music Director of The Dale Warland Singers, Dr. Warland is in demand both in the U.S. and abroad as a guest conductor, teacher and composer. He has conducted such prestigious groups as the Swedish Radio Choir, Danish Radio Choir, the Cameran Singers of Israel and the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus. An acclaimed expert on the music of Krzysztof Penderecki, Warland prepared the select choirs of the World Symposium on Choral Music in August 1990 for a performance of Penderecki's Polish Requiem in Helsinki, Finland. Dr. War land has served as Professor of Music at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and recently received the Distinguished Alumnnus Award from St. Olaf College as well as the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Southern California. THE DALE WAR LAND SINGERS, Founded in 1972, The Dale Warland Singers has emerged as one of the world's premier choral ensembles. Based in the Twin Cit' of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the group It gained countless fans from nineteen years of concert tours, festival appearances, radio broadcasts and fifteen critically acclaimed recordings. N ow regarded as leaders in the in ternationalchoral music scene, Dr. Warland and The Singers performed at the Second World Symposium on Choral Music in August 1990 in Sweden and Finland. As the sole North American choir in residence at the festival, the ensemble presented concerts featuring American choral works, and joined with other leading choirs from around the world in a series of workshops, concerts and broadcast activities. Critics and music professionals nationally and world-wide hail The Singers for their artistic and technical virtuosity, praising especially the broad repertoire that ranges from standard classical, jazz and folk music to the most demanding atonal and 20th century a cappella selections. Regular commissioning projects have included such composers as Dominick Argento, George Shearing, Mary Ellen Childs, and Peter Schickele. The Salt Lake City Deseret News sa)! PAUL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA The Waldorf Community Artist Series and Waldorf College are pleased to announce that the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra will perform at Waldorf College on November 5, 1991 as part of our Series. Included in that concert will be the world premiere of a work by Libby Larsen commissioned by the SPCO and the Waldorf Choir in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Waldorf Choir.
