1 Wissenschaft und Kunst Schwerpunkt der Paris Lodron Universität in Kooperation mit der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg Bergstr Salzburg January 29, 2011 Projekt W&K 2010: Report on ConCom - Intercultural Project Salzburg-Mumbai/India 2010 Reference: Application for the Project from January 6, 2010, in the Frame of Wissenschaft & Kunst The ConCom Projects in General The ConCom projects at Lab Inter Arts (LIA) at the University Mozarteum Salzburg / Austria take an intercultural approach. They bring people from different backgrounds together to engage them in experimental laboratory work, with the object of seeking new forms of understanding and dialogue in the diversity of cultural and artistic modes of expression. The laboratory work essentially takes place in the interspaces of SpaceSoundBodyTheater, community and environment. The participants and their artistic competences determine the focuses of each project as related to voice, dance, musical instruments, visual arts and language. In an overall sense, the projects aim at finding integral forms of cultural and social participation in the sense of doing culture. The ConCom Project City Walks Mumbai 2010 The laboratory work in Mumbai comprised exercises in perception to be found at living spaces and selected places: living areas, parks, streets, train stations, roof terraces, slum areas. The object was to crystallize the essence of the atmospheres of the encountered scenes of unstaged everyday life, with their sound-filled spaces and moving images, to pick up on the aesthetic of their environments and forms of action and interaction, and depending on the artistic languages of the participants to transpose this into dialogue-oriented performance-scenes. The laboratory work has been accompanied by seminars, in which questions that arose in the course of the project in progress have been examined and discussed, particularly in relation to intercultural philosophy and cultural studies. - page 1 / 7 -

Sept Flight: Mumbai - Munich Phase IV Nov./Dec Evaluation of the audiovisual documentation material Feb./March 2011 Editing and postproduction Phase V April 6, 2011 First presentation of the film documentary City Walks Mumbai 2010 at the University Mozarteum Salzburg July 2011 Approach and Methodology Dispatch of DVDs to all project partners The process of encountering began with listening, observing and sensing in order to get into resonance with a place and its people, avoiding presentations of artistic repertoire in favour of creating a platform for improvisational processes. The single performers developed their ideas, questions, their performance modes, material, forms etc. out of the respective lab process and the persons who had been encountered and involved in that process. What was set in motion during the laboratory process became raw material for a subsequent performance concept. Documentation Written Documentation Twice a week the ConCom Group members wrote down their perceptions and experiences about different parameters of the lab work, supplemented by socio-cultural reflections as well as individual comments. The written documentation provided the basic material for an arts-based research process, started in December 2010, being continued in Audio-Visual Documentation The main phases of the project development have been documented on video. The result of the ongoing editing process will be presented on the 6th of April 2011, 7.30 pm, at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. Within the summer term 2011 the edition will be mastered as DVD and published on - page 3 / 7 -
