2 The Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media The Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover - HMTMH) is one of Germany s most renowned institutions for artistic training and academic study. About 360 instructors, amongst them numerous internationally renowned artists, pedagogues and researchers, are entrusted with the training and education of nearly 1500 students from all over the world. A balance between music, drama, pedagogy, and academic study, as well as a firm belief in excellence of teaching combine to shape the university s unique identity. The HMTMH currently offers a diverse program consisting of 33 courses of study, supplemented by master classes. With about 500 public performances per annum, the HMTMH presents itself as one of Lower Saxony s leading hosts of cultural events. In order to strengthen the cultural region of Hannover and the music life of Lower Saxony, the state s only university of music is involved in a continuous exchange with the community and has initiated diverse music education programs. The HMTMH s performance-oriented courses of study have earned the institution international recognition. Fostering individual talent and training orchestra-playing competence are the key components of the university s pedagogical efforts. Exceptional teaching standards have resulted in the university s top ranking on the national level: With the exception of harp, all orchestral instrument lessons are given by professors, which clearly shows the HMTMH s commitment to the highest-quality professional training for future orchestra musicians. The university s departments of Chamber Music, New Music, Early Music, Jazz Rock Pop, and Musicology enhance the artistic profile of the HMTMH. Since 2001, exceptionally gifted children are being professionally instructed at the Institut zur Früh-Förderung musikalisch Hochbegabter (Institute for the early advancement of highly-gifted young musicians). 4 Fritz Behrens Foundation Fritz Behrens was born in 1836 as a farmer s son near Peine, Germany. He received training in business economics and soon made a name for himself in the Rhine Valley soft coal district, where he became one of the industry s most successful personalities. From 1881 until his death in 1920 Fritz Behrens and his wife lived in Hannover, where he was active even during his lifetime as an anonymous benefactor of city beautification. The avenue that connects with university and the zoo was named after Fritz Behrens. It was Fritz Behrens wish that a portion of the wealth he left behind would be used to establish a public service foundation dedicated to the preservation of monuments, social charity and science. The Foundation owns a number of works of art on display at Hannover s museums, a cello that is loaned to especially gifted students at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media; and the estate rights to the historic building in Hannover-Wülfel that serves as the Foundation s home. The Foundation regularly supports the International Soloists Academy, Menuhin Live Music Now as well as social institutions like the Children s Protection Association, hospice and Children s Hospital auf der Bult. It has also made major contributions to the restoration of the Goethe Museum in Rome, the construction costs of the Kestner Gesellschaft art museum and the purchase of the Gospels of Henry the Lion. The Foundation awards high endowed prizes to advance the sciences. Furthermore the Foundation makes it possible for donors to contribute during their lifetimes to charitable projects, thus enabling them to see how their contributions make their ideas become reality. The Fritz Behrens Foundation takes pleasure in supporting and promoting the future development of the talented young participants of the International Violin Competition, Hannover. For a period of three years, up to the subsequent Violin Competition, a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, built in Parma in ca. 1765, will be loaned to the First Prize Winner. Well-known actresses and actors present new books as well as classic world literature. NDR Kultur s radio broadcasts are a class of their own: Our feature productions and radio plays have received numerous awards. 6 Musikland Niedersachsen Musikland Niedersachsen promotes a modern diverse music culture. The team of five works to increase the visibility of the music culture of Lower Saxony in all its facets. Musikland Niedersachsen ggmbh is a nonprofit association. 7 Institute for Education and Culture (IfBK) The Institute for Education and Culture (IfBK) has two areas of focus. One area of specialization is the comprehensive management of classical music artists and the other is developing continuing education concepts for people of all ages and backgrounds. Our collaboration with the University of Bremen and the RWTH Aachen and our many years of practical experience in both areas form the basis for integrating psychology in our work. The objective is to maintain an interdisciplinary approach in combining art, music, literature and science while keeping individuals and their personal development in the forefront. The Artists Management portfolio of the IfBK provides classical music artists with a full range of services. In addition to the standard tasks of an agency such as acquiring performance opportunities and public relations, we utilize our research and experience to prepare our artists psychologically for the high demands of their profession. This includes aspects such as establishing one s own identity as a prerequisite for a career as an artist, giving advice and ongoing support in individual and career development through personal talks, as well as identifying and clarifying market opportunities with the help of social science methodology. The IfBK takes its role seriously as a supportive, explicitly non-profit oriented artists management for exceptional young talents. We help them enter the network of musical activity in Germany and other European countries. To this end, we cooperate with leading international competitions and Music Academies in Germany, Great Britain, the USA and also with various agencies in Europe and Asia. Our young artists include winners of international competitions such as the Argentinian flutist Cecilia María Muñoz and the Japanese violinist Shion Minami (prize winner of the International Violin Competition 2015). Among our established artists are such prominent figures as the conductor Shao-Chia Lü or the pianists Ana-Marija Markovina and Jean-François Heisser. Our particular strength lies in two instruments violin and piano and in our internationally active conductors. Contact: Katharina Nitsch +49 (0) press@jjv-.de mail@jjv-.de
