1 April 7 - April 12, 2013 Brasstown Valley Resort 6421 US Hwy 76 Young Harris, GA The 2013 Roswell New Horizons Music Camp will be held from Sunday, April 7 through Friday, April 12, The Camp is open to all New Horizons Band members as well as all adult musicians. LOCATION The Camp, formerly located at Georgia s UNICOI State Park, will be held in 2013 at the Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa, located in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains. In addition to its other amenities, the Resort s dining room is known for its picturesque mountain views, which compliment its outstanding food and service. All the information you need to make your arrangements with Brasstown Valley Resort is set forth in the Accommodations, Meals and Travel section below. REGISTRATION AND FEES In order to register for the Camp, you must complete the attached Registration Form and return it to Jack Jennings as indicated below and in the Form. 2 CLASSES LIST Page 1 of 3 Concert Bands Concert Band 1 Concert Band 2 Concert Band 3 This band is for players with more limited experience. Very moderate ranges, rhythms and key signatures. Music grades are 1 & 2. All instruments intermediate. This band is designed for musicians who enjoy playing mostly Grade 3 music with some Grade 4 mixed in. The key signatures, rhythms and ranges are more limited that Band 3. All instruments advanced. This band is for those who enjoy a challenge. Music level is mostly Grade 5. The concert bands will meet for 90 minutes, twice a day, at 8:30AM & 7:00PM. Each Band will have two conductors sharing the podium. Jazz Bands Jazz Band 1 Entry level This band is for those with limited or entry level jazz experience. Jazz Band 2 Intermediate. Less strenuous than Jazz Band 3 Jazz Band 3 Intermediate. Musical factors are more moderate in every way. Jazz Band 4 Advanced. Not as strenuous as Jazz Band 5 Jazz Band 5 Very Advanced. Rhythms, ranges, tempo and key signatures are very challenging and not designed for the faint of heart. Each Jazz Band will have 5 saxes (2 altos, 2 tenors and 1 bari); 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and a rhythm section of piano, bass guitar and drums. We prefer not to double any parts. Page 2

7 ACCOMMODATIONS, MEALS AND TRAVEL Brasstown Valley Resort 6421 US Hwy 76 Young Harris, GA Main ALL ROOM AND MEALS RESERVATIONS MUST ME MADE DIRECTLY WITH THE BRASSTOWN VALLEY RESORT Call for the Reservations Department Final room reservations must be received on or before January 7, 2013 When making your reservations for lodging, be sure to mention that you re part of the New Horizons Music Camp. Your 1 st night will be charged to your credit card. The remainder will be charged to your account upon checkout. All transportation, lodging accommodations and meals are the responsibility of each individual The Resort has 102 lodge guest rooms (49 with two double beds and 53 with one king bed). There are also 32 guest rooms in 8 cottages, each with 4 bedrooms and a common parlor/kitchen area. In the cottages there are 16 rooms with two double beds and 16 rooms with one king bed (each bedroom has a separate entrance and its own bathroom). All rooms are the same price to Music Camp participants whether in the lodge or in a cottage. The cottages have a central parlor/kitchen which comes with a full size refrigerator (with freezer), a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishwasher, and stove top (not the full oven). There is a gas grill on each deck. The cabinets are also stocked with cookware and serve ware. Individuals or groups staying in the cottages may rent the parlor/kitchen for $ per night, if desired. Daily Package Rates (Inclusive of Resort Fee, Service Charges and applicable taxes) The fees for accommodations and meals will depend on where you choose to stay and eat. Here are the costs if you choose to stay and/or eat at the Resort during the Camp. 8 Daily Meal Voucher Options per person per day. It is not required that Camp attendees reserve the same meal package (if any) each day, but the meal packages will need to be reserved in advance, All meals will be buffet style. Breakfast & Dinner Vouchers $32.37 Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Vouchers $45.31 Individuals are responsible for reserving their rooms and desired meal voucher packages for each day with the Brasstown Reservations Department ( ). Upon check-in, you will receive meal vouchers based on your reservations. Meal vouchers will be collected by the Resort at each meal as designated on the voucher. Chevelles 69 Restaurant & Bar, Hayesville, NC TRAVEL Major airlines fly to Atlanta in abundance from there, it is a little over 100 miles north to the Resort. Depending on the day and the time of day, you can count on about 1½ hours travel time from the airport to the Resort. DIRECTIONS FROM ATLANTA Take I-75 North to Exit #268 onto I-575 North toward Canton. I-575 then becomes Zell Miller Mountain Parkway (GA 515). Follow GA 515 north until it becomes US 76 East. Stay on US 76 East through Young Harris and follow the signs to Brasstown Valley. (Brasstown will be on your right) DIRECTIONS FROM ASHEVILLE, NC Follow interstate 40 W, to Exit 27 (US23/74). Follow US 23/74 to Exit 81 toward Franklin. In Franklin, US 23 becomes US 64 West. Take this to Hayesville. In Hayesville, turn left onto Hwy 17/69 and follow to the end. Turn right onto Hwy 76 West. Brasstown will be about 2 miles on the left. Page 8

9 DIRECTIONS FROM CHATTANOOGA, TN Take Interstate 75 North to US 64 exit. Go east on US 64 to US 129 South. Take US 129 to Blairsville, GA, then US 76 East to Young Harris. Brasstown Valley Resort is 1 mile past Young Harris on the right.
