3 Meet the Artists Jose Llana Jose Llana is honored to make his American Songbook debut directly from his portrayal as Marcos in David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim s Here Lies Love at the Public Theater (directed by Alex Timbers), garnering a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. His Broadway credits include Chip Tolentino in William Finn s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Drama Desk Award, directed by James Lapine), El Gato in Won der land, Wang Ta in David Henry Hwang s adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein s Flower Drum Song, Angel in Rent (directed by Michael Greif), Jessie-Lee in Street Corner Symphony, and his debut as Lun Tha in the 1996 revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein s The King and I, opposite Donna Murphy and Lou Diamond Phillips. Off-Broadway appearances include Adam in Falling for Eve (York Theatre), Gabey in On the Town (directed by George C. Wolfe, Delacorte Theater) and Adam Guettel s Saturn Returns (directed by Tina Landau, the Public Theater). Regional appearances include performances as Bill Sikes in Oliver! For Lincoln Center s American Songbook series, Ms. Grigsby has appeared with Michael Winther, Duncan Sheik, Michael Friedman, and the 2005 concert of Spring Awakening. Other collaborations include My Life Is a Fairy Tale and Orphan of Zhao, both with music and lyrics by Stephin Merritt for Lincoln Center Festival; Telaio: Desdemona (by Susan Botti); and the premiere of Jeanine Tesori s The Lion, the Unicorn and Me for Washington National Opera. Ms. Grigsby holds degrees from Southern Methodist University and the Manhattan School of Music. Jack Bashkow Woodwind player Jack Bashkow (reeds) was most recently heard on Broadway in Motown: The Musical. His other Broadway credits include Shrek: The Musical, Jersey Boys, Grease, The Wedding Singer, Brooklyn: The Musical, Annie Get Your Gun, Hairspray, and Footloose. Off-Broadway he performed for The Fortress of Solitude, Stand-Up Shakespeare (directed by Mike Nichols), and the Shakespeare in the Park production of Richard III, starring Kevin Kline. He received a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Best Musical Direction for the Washington, D.C., production of Stand-Up Shakespeare at the Folger Shake speare Library. Mr. Bashkow has performed and/or recorded with such jazz and pop stars as Bette Midler, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Keith Richards, Lionel Hampton, Natalie Cole, David Byrne, Peter Allen, and Queen Latifah. Simon Kafka Simon Kafka (guitar) has a multifaceted career that includes playing and recording with such artists as Carly Rae Jepsen, Guy Berryman of Coldplay, Elle King, Lea Michelle, Lesley Gore, bassist Christian McBride, and Emily Kinney. In addition to performing internationally, he has performed on several national and local television broadcasts. Mr. Kafka has also played many Broadway shows, including The Lion King, The Book of Mormon, and Next to Normal. He was the guitar instructor on the Bridge Project at Brooklyn Academy of Music under the direction of Sam Mendes, and he performs original music with the East West Quintet and Jesus on the Mainline, who can frequently be heard on National Public Radio. Mr. Kafka was the musical director, co-arranger, and solo guitarist for Timon of

5 Athens at the Public Theater. He received his degree in performance from the Manhattan School of Music in Pete Donovan At home in different genres from jazz to progressive rock, and in venues from the orchestra hall to the downtown hole-in-the-wall, Pete Donovan (bass) has performed with a diverse mix of artists over his 20 years in New York. That list includes Sting, Beck, Rufus Wainwright, Bono, Quincy Jones, Phil Ramone, The Who, Dianne Reeves, Wynton Marsalis, Fred Hersch, Joshua Bell, Dawn Upshaw, José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, Marvin Hamlisch, Jane Krakowski, Patti Lupone, Liza Minelli, Kelli O Hara, and virtuoso accordionist and composer Guy Klucevsek. Mr. Donovan has also performed with leading orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Pops, and the National and Detroit Symphony Orchestras. He has appeared at the Ravinia, Tanglewood, Caramoor, and San Francisco Jazz festivals, as well as the Metropolitan Opera. As a recording artist he has appeared on albums with the alternative rock band Evan escence, vocalist Nathan Gunn, and Bell and Domingo, among many others. Film soundtracks include Across the Universe, You ve Got Mail, and HBO s You Don t Know Jack. On television he played on the soundtracks for Sesame Street, Little Einsteins, Rubicon, and Smash. Television appearances include Saturday Night Live, Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O Brien, CBS This Morning, and the Today Show. As an arranger Mr. Donovan has written for Marin Mazzie, and as a producer he works with indie and jazz artists in his Westchester-based recording studio, Zephus Sound. Kevin Garcia Kevin Garcia s (drums) musical theater credits include Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (Broadway), Murder Ballad (Manhattan Theatre Club/Union Square Theatre), Love s Labour s Lost (New York Shakespeare Festival), and Whisper House (Old Globe). He also performs and records with Duncan Sheik, Rebecca Naomi Jones (Lincoln Center s American Songbook), Kerrigan- Lowdermilk, and Marcus Paul James. Mr. Garcia records and tours with the Duhks, Wheatus, Bright Light Bright Light, Gato Loco, Natalie MacMaster, and Donnell Leahy, among others. Jaygee Macapugay Originally from Chicago, Jaygee Macapugay (vocals) calls New York City home. Her portrayal of Imelda Marcos in the David Byrne/Fatboy Slim collaboration Here Lies Love won critical acclaim. Other New York City credits include Hello, Dolly! (Irene Molloy), originating roles in two musicals with Prospect Theatre Company (Honor, The Rockae), workshopping Off-Broadway s musical comedy Disenchanted! (Mulan, Pocahontas), and appearing as the

6 featured soloist for the concert Suites by Sondheim at Alice Tully Hall. She has also appeared regionally and performed in such productions as Smokey Joe s Cafe (Brenda), Miss Saigon (Kim), Jesus Christ Superstar (Mary Magdalene), and The King and I with Lou Diamond Phillips. Whenever possible, she loves to combine performance with community engagement. As a former USO singer, Ms. Macapugay sang for U.S. troops and veterans with the Liberty Belles. She is also a member of Broadway Barkada, a collective of Filipino-American performing artists. Jeigh Madjus Born and raised in Toronto, Jeigh Madjus (vocals) was in the original cast of Here Lies Love at the Public Theater in 2013, as well as its commercial run in Other U.S. credits include Jacob in the first national tour of the Tony-winning revival of La Cage aux Folles and his award-winning performance as Lola in Prison Dancer: The Musical. In Canada Mr. Madjus has appeared in the Canadian premiere of Myths and Hymns and earned a Dora nomination for his performance in the Toronto premiere of Altar Boyz. His television and film credits include Servitude and Prison Dancer: The Interactive Web Musical. Enrico Rodriguez Enrico Rodriguez (vocals) was last seen at the Public Theater in the critically acclaimed David Byrne/Fatboy Slim musical Here Lies Love. He made his Broadway debut at age 15 as a Big Kid in Big: The Musical. Other Broadway and New York credits include Rent, Zanna, Don t!, Fame, and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. He has also performed in national tours of Mamma Mia! and Rent, and appeared in Toronto in Miss Saigon. Matt Stine Matt Stine (orchestrator) works as a music producer, composer, remixer, arranger, and sound designer in New York City. Most recently he was music editor for Here Lies Love, the David Byrne and Fatboy Slim musical production at the Public Theater and at the Royal National Theatre in London. Mr. Stine was music supervisor for Love s Labour s Lost, the Alex Timbers and Michael Friedman musical for Shakespeare in the Park. He has also been working as music director for Doug Elkins and his company, Doug Elkins Choreography, Etc., and produced music for Elkins s two most recent works, Mo(or)town/ Redux and Hapless Bizarre. Mr. Stine has created original music for more than 40 plays as resident composer and sound designer at the Schoolhouse Theater in Croton Falls, New York. He produces pop and hip-hop records for artists such as Metermaids, David Byrne, St. Vincent, Styles P, and more. He also produced the original cast album for Love s Labour s Lost, as well as the Remix Collection

7 from Here Lies Love. Currently he runs an independent production company and record label called 27 Sound. Cody Owen Stine Cody Owen Stine (orchestrator) is a composer, lyricist, arranger, performer, copyist, and music director who writes for theater, film, and cabaret. His recent roles include music director and arranger for Eager to Lose at Ars Nova, associate conductor on Murder Ballad at Manhattan Theatre Club and Union Square Theatre, and associate music director for Atomic at Theatre Row. As a composer/lyricist, his work has been seen at Ars Nova, Prospect Theater Company, Joe s Pub, Laurie Beechman Theatre, the Duplex Cabaret Theatre, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and Second City in Los Angeles, among others. Music copying credits include projects for MTI (Music Theatre International), Ars Nova, and numerous cabaret and concert performers. For five years Mr. Stine was musical director, arranger, and contributing writer for the Water Coolers, a nationally and internationally touring musical comedy group. Upcoming projects include a full-length show with Sharyn Rothstein and a rock musical based on Heinrich von Kleist s play Penthesilea. He is a member of the Advanced BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and the Dramatists Guild of America. American Songbook In 1998, Lincoln Center launched American Songbook, dedicated to the celebration of popular American song. Designed to highlight and affirm the creative mastery of America s songwriters from their emergence at the turn of the 19th century up through the present, American Songbook spans all styles and genres, from the form s early roots in Tin Pan Alley and Broadway to the eclecticism of today s singer-songwriters. American Songbook also showcases the outstanding interpreters of popular song, including established and emerging concert, cabaret, theater, and songwriter performers. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) serves three primary roles: presenter of artistic programming, national leader in arts and education and community relations, and manager of the Lincoln Center campus.
