1 Eastside Symphony Eastside Symphony provides an opportunity for adult amateur musicians to share their musical interests and develop their skills in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Through our public concerts, we give the community a chance to hear classical music presented in an informal and accessible manner. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings in Redmond. Interested musicians should contact Maureen Stone at eastsidesymphony@gmail.com. Special Thanks! Andy Robertson The Lake Washington School District Volunteers Without the tireless efforts of our staff of volunteers, Eastside Symphony could not exist. 2 Alexei Girsh Alexei Girsh has conducted the Eastside Symphony since Born and educated in Russia, he attained his Bachelor s Degree at Glinka Conservatory in Novosibirsk and Master s Degree-Conductor of Symphony and Opera-from the Mussorgsky Conservatory in Ekaterinburg. In Russia, he was highly acclaimed as principal conductor of the Radio-Television Symphony of Vladivostok, Music Director of the St. Petersburg Youth Symphony and a professor at the Institute of the Arts in St. Petersburg. Since moving to the United States, he has been Music Director of the Washington Wind Symphony (Redmond, ), the Youth Philharmonic Northwest (Redmond, ), and the Bellevue Ballet Orchestra ( ). He is currently Music Director and conductor of the Eastside Symphony, Music Director of the Renton Youth Symphony orchestra, Artist and Music Director of the Concert Opera of Seattle, and conductor of the Boeing Concert Band. In 2000 he was honored with the city of Redmond s Patron of the Arts Award. Along with these activities, his portfolio includes a number of published arrangements and recordings. Hajung Yuk A junior at the International Community School in Kirkland, Hajung Yuk was first introduced to the cello while playing in her elementary school orchestra. While playing, she immediately loved the low and calming tones the cello produced and decided to take private lessons. She began her active involvement with the cello by joining the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra and later began to enter competitions. She has placed in several competitions such as Performing Arts festival of the Eastside, where she placed second in the concerto division playing Polonaise by David Popper. This is her 6th year of cello and is currently studying with Olga Ruvinov. In the future, she hopes to continue music and become a music professor. Jack Lynch Jack Lynch is a retired pediatrician and was formerly the principal clarinet of the ESO. He trained in music with Harold Henderson. He has played bass clarinet with the NW Mahler Festival Orchestra and the Island Sinfonia. For the past six years he has conducted the Island Sinfonia, based in the San Juan Islands, where he lives with his wife and two cats. The Baudboys The Baudboys are an all-male a cappella group composed entirely of Microsoft employees. Risking the wrath of fellow employees by rehearsing in on-campus conference rooms, The Baudboys sing a variety of popular and original music. As a group, they boast a wealth of musical training and performing experience. All sang with other groups before joining The Baudboys, and several founded or directed previous ensembles. The Baudboys claimed the prestigious Audience Favorite award at the 2010 Pacific Northwest Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, after winning first place in 2008 and representing the region at the national finals. They have performed for audiences in many venues, from nursing homes and schools to major festivals and sporting events. 5 A Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson Singalong lyrics: [Six measures for orchestra, then] Joy to the world, the Lord is come; let earth receive her King. Let ev ry heart prepare Him room, and heav n and nature sing, and heav n and nature sing, and heav n and heav n and nature sing. [Two measures for orchestra, then] Deck the hall with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Don we now our gay apparel, Fa la la la la la la la la. Toll the ancient yuletide carol, Fa la la la la la la la la. [One measure for orchestra, then] God rest ye merry, Gentlemen, let nothing you dismay, Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas day To save us all from Satan s power when we were gone astray, Oh, tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy, Oh, tidings of comfort and joy. [23 measures for orchestra, then] Hark, the herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled! Joyful all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies; With angelic hosts proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem! Hark, the herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King. [5 measures for orchestra, then] Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright Round yon Virgin Mother and Child, Holy infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace. [4 measures for orchestra, then] Dashing through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh, O er the fields we go laughing all the way ( Ha, Ha, Ha ) Bells on bobtail ring, making spirits bright; What fun it is to laugh and sing a sleighing song tonight. Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way; Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh, hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way; Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh. Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, hey! Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh! [28 measures for orchestra, then] Glory to God; Glory in the highest! Oh, come let us adore Him, oh, come let us adore Him, Oh, come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. [13 measures for orchestra, then] Jingle bells, jingle bell, jingle all the way... Happy Holidays!
