Music Department News October 2016 Bring on It doesn t seem quite possible that yet another year is over, and Christmas is only 3 1/2 weeks away (which means only about 4 weeks until Hot Cross Buns start to appear). We would like to thank all of our wonderful, supportive parents for entrusting us with your child s musical journey, for dropping them off early, for picking them up after rehearsals, for waiting around until everything is packed away, and for stacking the chairs in groups of 10 with such aplomb. To the parents of the graduating year 12s - Thankyou for having been part of our music family. Know that you are always welcome - after all, what will you do with yourself in the first week of August if there s no eisteddfod?? To our year 7 parents - we hope that you and your child have enjoyed the beginnings of the journey and that you now feel fully part of the family will be just as busy, if not more so..our main focus for first semester will be preparing for our tour to the Gold Coast in the last week of first semester. This will be five days of performing concerts, working together as a team, and having a bucket load of fun. Forms and details will come out in the first couple of weeks of term 1. Have a happy, safe and restful holiday period. When What Who Where June, 2017 Music Tour All senior ensembles Gold Coast 29 July-6 August, 2017 Eisteddfod All ensembles and small groups Various
MUSIC SHOWCASE Thankyou to all who came along to our annual Music Showcase concert to support the students in their end-ofyear performances. All the ensembles performed so well and really showed off the work they have been doing throughout 2016.
Year 12 Graduation This year, a group of junior vocalists were invited to sing as part of the Principal s address at the year 12 graduation ceremony. Ms Jensen-Steele chose The Circle of Life as the theme of her speech and, rather than use recorded music, asked Ms Bradshaw to prepare a live version. With only about 2 weeks to prepare the eight students from yr7 and 8, accompanied by Mr Kent on piano and conducted by Ms Bradshaw, did a stellar job - doing their part in wishing the graduating year 12s the best for their future. Congratulations Many of our students sit exams on their instrument or voice outside of school with their private teachers. Preparing for a practical exam is a big undertaking and involves preparing usually four pieces, scales, technical exercises, aural skills and musical knowledge. Congratulations to Anya Taulier in Year 9, who recently received a B+ for her 4th Grade AMEB exam on Saxophone. Well done! We would love to be able to recognise external music exam results wherever possible. If your child has done a music exam outside of school please let us know so that we can showcase their achievements. Donations We have a small bank of second-hand performance uniform items that are kept for students who need last-minute uniforms, or who are unable to purchase their own. To help out with this collection: Year 12 girls - could you consider donating your performance jumper to the music department? Boys - if you have outgrown your black trousers or black dress shoes, could you consider donating them to the music department as well? Thankyou!!
Strutting their stuff... A number of our students have recently been involved in performances outside of school. Eden Tregear (year 7) recently played Sandy in a production of Grease at The J Ella McDonald (year 8) performed at The J in her private teacher s finale concert. Her backing vocalists included Evie Korver (year 11) and Issy Turner (year 9) Kaiden Smales (year 7) also performed at The J in the same finale concert. If your child has been involved in performances outside of school please let us know. We may not be able to feature every student, every time, but we are certainly willing to showcase their talents whenever possible.
Our recent winners of Music Student of the Week are: Music Students of the Week are students who have gone above and beyond and who demonstrate the four schoolwide positive behaviours - Be Safe; Be Productive; Be Responsible; Be Respectful. Music Students of the Week Del Bleechmore (Yr12) Del was our school Dux for He is also a passionate member of The Sonors percussion ensemble. Despite his heavy academic workload, Del is always on time and prepared for rehearsal and goes the extra mile to see that the equipment is set up and packed away correctly. Ruby Williamsz (Yr10) Issy Clayton (Yr10) Millie Miles (Yr10) Millie, Ruby and Issy were a group of stduents who went out of their way to pack up after a percussion ensemble rehearsal one morning - none of them are in percussion ensemble! Issy avoided having her photo taken - naughty Issy. Mahli Humphreys (Yr7) Mahli is a very dependable and motivated student. Not only has she learned two sets of solo pieces on violin (one for school and one for her private teacher), she has also memorised it all! Zoe Tyler (Yr7) Zoe has made an awesome effort in her vocal lessons this term. She is always on time, and was well-prepared for her assessment. When she performs, Zoe exudes enthusiasm with her bright smile. Maya Kelly, Chris Chapman, Hayley Bandera(Yr10) Maya, Chris & Hayley are always on hand to help out. Whenever there is a job to be done, these three jump in and get it done without having to be asked. Their assistance around the building is always appreciated Elijah Goodall (Yr7) Elijah has demonstrated real character strength this year. He is making some great progress on double bass after persevering through some tough times earlier in the year.
Cinderella Year 9 student Zigi Coimbra Wilkie will star on-stage in Noosa Arts Theatre s annual pantomime in January Zigi is part of a cast of 36 in the pantomime Cinderella which commences on January 7th. The pantomime is the story of Cinderella, a beautiful girl forced to serve her jealous stepsisters. Aided by the loveable Buttons and a Fairy Godmother watching over her, Cinderella dreams of escaping her misery and finding true love and happiness. Details on how to book tickets to see Zigi perform are on the flyer to the right.
