MAKING MUSIC WITH OUR VOICES This week the children focused more on making music using our voices. The Stars discussed what it means to sing. Sara said singing makes me happy.

2 MAKING MUSIC WITH OUR VOICES This week the children focused more on making music using our voices. The Stars discussed what it means to sing. Sara said singing makes me happy. The teacher said that when people sing they use their voices to create a melody or sounds and together to make up a song. The Starts were asked then to sing a song without the microphone and then they were challenged to sing the same song using a microphone. Later the children were asked whether they like more. Brayden said I don t like the microphone because when I sing my voice sounds terrible. Charlotte said, I liked the microphone because my voice sounds so sweet with the microphone. 2

CREATE YOUR OWN PATTERN During center time the Stars were challenged to come up and create their own patterns using pictures of the different types of musical instruments.

3 CREATE YOUR OWN PATTERN During center time the Stars were challenged to come up and create their own patterns using pictures of the different types of musical instruments. Some children worked in groups of twos and others preferred to work individually when creating their patterns. As seen in the above picture Charlotte and Lael worked together and Niari worked on her own in creating instrumental patterns. Creating patterns not only supports mathematical learning but also promotes social development among children. This activity also helped Stars to make predictions of what should come next. 3

4 HOW TO MAKE MUSIC WITH WATER As a science experiment this week, the Stars filled up the jars with water to make music with. They added different amounts of water and food coloring to each individual jar. Using a spoon and fork, they tapped on the jars to see if the different amount of water in each jar made a difference in sound. They also tested to see if using a spoon or using a fork would cause the jars to make a different sound. This activity demonstrated the children s ability to use scientific inquiry skills. 4

Next week we will continue reviewing shapes and what kind of shapes can we see in the environment around us. Please allow your child time to wash their hands upon arrival. Adults please use hand sanitizer to help stop the spread of germs. Thank you! Dear Parents, This week the Stars continued the study of music. The children played a guessing game (what instrument they hear). The children continued reviewing shapes, and also cut and pasted different types of shapes and used different shapes to make a kite. They also clapped to find out how many syllables their friends have in their names, and the children painted using watercolors, they matched rhyming words and then they created their own songs. The Stars also played a fishing games and counted how many fish the children were able to catch. We read, I Wish I had a Pirate Suit, M is for Music, Hello Hello, Ah, Music and Five Nice Mice Next week we will continue the study of music by investigating the topic what are different styles of music, and how they make us feel. In order to enhance literacy in the classroom we would like children to bring a book instead of toys. If you like we can keep a book for a week in the classroom. The children will use a sign in/out system to keep track of the books and in taking turns. Have a great weekend! 5
