2 >>>> PRESENTATION The group emerged during the Brussels Jazz Marathon as a carte blanche given to Louis Favre (Egon, Selah Sue) in May This was the perfect reason to invite Alfred Vilayleck (KOA collective, Serge Lazarevitch 5tet, Melquiades 4tet + Julien Lourau) from Montpellier, France and Belgian acclaimed saxophone player Jeroen Van Herzeele (Mik Mâäk, Jeroen Van Herzeele Quartet, Greetings from Mercury). They felt immediately at ease and the chemistry was so intense that Gratitude Trio was born. Why the name Gratitude? Because the musicians are grateful for the music of the great masters, but also their families, friends and the incredible beauty that nature brings. The trio loves to sieze the moment, with their unique interpretation of emotions and feelings. They seek freedom, genuinily and authenticily, to share the joy with the audience. 1st album - «Gratitude Trio» [El Negocito] Gratitude s first release in 2012 consisted of compositions by Jeroen Van Herzeele, Louis Favre and Alfred Vilayleck and free improvisations. Meanwhile, this dedicated group played many concerts in venues large and small, at home and abroad, and worked on a new material, always evolving, self-searching, while the band kept on maturing through their concerts. Moreover Gratitude Trio was chosen to honor Toots Thielemans together with Aka Moon and Bert Joris at the famous Porgy And Bess Jazz Club of Vienna. 2nd album - «Alive» [El Negocito] Their second album Alive is a live recording of new songs which alternate between different dynamics and moods; sometimes rather loud, energetic with strong grooves and polyrhythms, other time more fragile and lyrical, like a ballad or charged full of feelings and emotions. As a power trio the music, often by the hand of Jeroen Van Herzeele brings an energy of letting go, not very conceptual or rigid with a hint of Led Zeppelin throughout. And of course the spirit of Coltrane is never far away.

Jeroen soon started exploring other forms of music (freejazz, rock, blues, soul, gospel,...), elements clearly present on Gratitude Trio recordings.

After a short study of classic saxophone, he dedicated his life to jazzmusic and started attending workshops and seminars, in the meanwhile following courses at the Jazzstudio in Antwerp. Jeroen soon started exploring other forms of music (freejazz, rock, blues, soul, gospel,...), elements clearly present on Gratitude Trio recordings. He found his own sound on the instrument, intimate, spiritual and instinctive, a sound in accordance with his soul. He is constantly perfecting the jazzlanguage, seeking the experiment in a soulful confrontation with the challenges of a changing world. He likes to let his far out improvisations being carried on a city jungle beat, modern dance rhythms, without losing his acoustic power, breath.

4 Alfred Vilayleck [electric bass] Alfred started to play music with his brother David in rock- bands at 12 years old. He learned jazz music and improvisation with guitarist Serge Lazarévitch and since then he kept on playing all kinds of music with passion and sincerity. As a bass player, he crossed the road of musicians such as Ari Hoenig, Julien Lourau, Eric Barret, Joel Allouche, Hugues Mayot, Franck Vaillant, Stéphane Foucher, Laurent Blondiau, Guillaume Orti, Michel Massot, John Tchicaï, Philippe Renault, Jean-Marie Frédéric, Vittorio Silvestri... He also played with world-music projects, wth Ahmed Fofana, Cherif Soumano (Mali) and Fethi Tabet (Algeria) ; electro music with Projet Lafaille, and contemporary music with saxophonist Radek Knop from Poland and contemporary ensemble «La Passerelle». Alfred is a founding member of Collectif Koa in Montpellier (France) where he organises every year a festival and invited and worked with musicians such as Magic Malik, Fabrizio Cassol (Aka Moon from Belgium), Steve Coleman, Marc Ducret, Jim Black, Dave Liebman... He is actually leading The Grand Ensemble Koa and is co-leading bands such as Gratitude Trio, Peemaï. Alfred is a soundpainter formed by Walter Thompson, performing and teaching in many projects. He also teaches jazz, rock and improvisation at the Conservatoire de Montpellier.

Louis Favre [drums] Louis Favre is a french drummer and composer who lives in Belgium since his started studying music at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven in 2003.

5 Louis Favre [drums] Louis Favre is a french drummer and composer who lives in Belgium since his started studying music at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven in He holds a Master of Jazz (thanks to Dre Pallemaerts and Pierre Van Dormael!) and the Aggregate Diploma to teach. Before that, he learned a lot with Serge Lazarevitch and André Mallau at the Perpignan Conservatory in south of France. As a sideman Louis saw all the majority of the Flemish muziekpodia- and festivals. He worked with great musicians like Pierre Van Dormael, Ewout Pierreux, Philippe Aerts, Michel Hatzigeorgiou (Aka Moon), Manolo Cabras, Robin Verheyen, Joachim Saerens, Pieterjan Seaux, Steven Delannoye and Tuur Florizoone. He also played for years with Lokomotiv, a marching band from Leuven led by Jo Zanders. With this group he released two CDs and played in various festivals in Europe (Belgium, Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, England, France). In 2009 he performed with international artist Selah Sue one year long and they composed together the hit «This World» and «My Direction». Today we can see him working with Gratitude Trio (jazz), Maarten Decombel Trio (folk), DooDooDown (Rhythm&Blues with improvisation) and big talented singer/songwriter Roselien Tobbackx (pop). Louis taught at the Rock School in Leuven and was the mentor of the famous Brussels-based percussion band Fanfakids (a cooperation with Met-x and youth center Centrum West). The last 6 years he plays drums, keyboard and he sings - all together- during contemporary dance classes in Louvain- La-Neuve.
