9 Singing Strategy for Schools in Southend The benefits of singing are countless: a pastime and therapeutic outlet, a way to entertain and a useful educational tool. It brings us together, invigorates us, helps us to relax and is hugely beneficial for the development of language and reading. Music on Sea is strongly committed to supporting singing across the Borough of Southend. Our aim is to raise the profile and regularity of singing in schools and to support, create and signpost more opportunities for students, and people of all ages and abilities within the community to come together and take part in quality vocal experiences. In 2011, the Department for Education published its National Music Plan for Music with an emphasis on the importance of providing students with the opportunity to sing regularly. Schools are now required to have their own singing strategy built into their music development plan. Music on Sea is supporting schools in the creation of a Singing Strategy which will encourage regular commitment to singing from students and staff members alike. Intended Outcomes: Musical learning Development/improvement of the voice as an instrument Aural perception Development of literacy skills Aural and visual memory Spatial reasoning and mathematical performance Intellectual development Executive functioning and self-regulation Creativity General attainment Personality Education motivation and re-engagement for the disaffected Social cohesion and inclusion Pro-social behaviour and team work Empathy and emotional intelligence Psychological well-being Personal development and self-belief Music and health Physical development Fun For support with singing within your school please contact Music on Sea on or
