Surrey Music Hub is required to complete a data return annually for Arts Council England. As the lead organisation of Surrey Music Hub, Surrey Arts is collecting and analysing data from lots of partners, and this information from schools is essential. At the end of the survey there is an opportunity for you to give us any further information you think might be helpful, and to tell us how Surrey Music Hub can further support the music provision in your school. This survey will ask you for information about instrumental & vocal teaching, and your school's choirs, bands, groups and ensembles, for the academic year To complete the survey you will need to know: - How many pupils in your school are learning to play a musical instrument (or to sing) outside the classroom (Eg individually or in small groups) - If offered in your school, details about whole class instrumental tuition (known as WCET). Please note this is a new question area compared to the 2016 survey. - which choirs, bands, groups or ensembles take place in your school - any external partners (eg organisations, individuals, or other schools) who help you deliver these ensemble activities You may find it helpful to gather your data together before starting, as there is no facility to save an incomplete survey and return later. For your convenience we have posted online a PDF copy of the survey questions at: If you are unable to provide accurate numbers, please supply a best estimate. Completing the survey, once you have collated your data, should take 5-10 minutes. The information gathered in this survey will be kept securely on the internal Surrey Arts system and will be shared only with hub partners and Arts Council England as part of the annual data return. Individual schools' data is not identifiable within this process. 4 About pupils in your school learning to play an instrument in whole class groups (WCET) Pages 4 and 5 are about whole class instrumental learning. This is, for example where a whole class or year group learn to play together. Common examples include violin, guitar, ukulele, mixed brass or strings, African drumming, rock band instruments. This approach has been variously known as First Access, Tuning Up, WCET (Whole Class Ensemble Tuition), Wider Opportunities etc. In this survey we use the term WCET, as used by Arts Council England.
