3 Visitor s Guide Welcome The Twin Cities Catholic Chorale extends a warm welcome to Saint Agnes parishioners and visitors. Our season of choral Masses with orchestra offers you reverent and unforgettable liturgical worship, including: Choral masterworks from the Catholic Church s treasury of sacred music by Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and other great composers The Mass in Latin, the Church s official language Gregorian chant by the Schola Cantorum Glorious Baroque-style architecture Everything you will hear and see fulfills the directives of the Second Vatican Council. We lift our voices to praise God. Many Catholics and music lovers have heard choral Masses only in concert halls. We offer a very different experience: choral Masses sung as an integral part of the liturgy, as the composers intended. We sing at 10 a.m., Sundays, from early October through the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, except during Advent and Lent. On November 2nd, 2016, All Souls Day, the Chorale performs Mozart s Requiem, K 626, at 7:30 p.m. We also sing for Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. Dr. Robert L. Peterson directs the approximately 60 volunteer singers and our professional orchestra and vocal soloists: Patricia Kent, soprano; Jocelyn Kalajian, contralto; John decausmeaker, tenor; and Jon Nordstrom, bass. Mary Elizabeth LeVoir, D.M.A., is the organist. Major church renovations are completed! The renovations to our beautiful 103-year-old church have been mostly completed, so that we can again ascend that magnificent staircase into the church. The staircase, a new roof, drainage system, and handicapped-accessible restroom were added this past year. Please help us keep on singing. To present music of great beauty and complexity, we need dedicated volunteer singers and professional instrumentalists and vocal soloists. It is an expensive proposition, and we depend totally on the generosity of our contributors, the Friends of the Chorale (see page 4). 3
4 Please become a Friend of the Chorale by donating: Online at By mail; send your check, payable to the Twin Cities Catholic Chorale, to P.O. Box 4234, Saint Paul, MN For more information about sponsoring the music at a Chorale Mass or including the Chorale in your estate planning, please send an to inquiry@catholicchorale.org. The Twin Cities Catholic Chorale is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, separate from Saint Agnes parish and the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by federal and state law. A little history Founded by the late Monsignor Richard J. Schuler in 1955, the Twin Cities Catholic Chorale has been singing at Saint Agnes since This is our forty-second consecutive season in the parish. We feel blessed to be able to sing in this lovely and acoustically fine structure. It was modeled on Stift Schlägl, a monastery church at Aigen, Upper Austria, and reflects the Austrian and Bavarian origins of Saint Agnes founding families. Its 205-foot high Zwiebelturm (onion tower) is a landmark visible throughout Saint Paul s Frogtown neighborhood. Visitors from diverse backgrounds We always are pleased to welcome visitors, especially those who have never before experienced Mass in the grand tradition of the Catholic Church. We especially welcome groups of students, whatever their personal faiths. The parish will be happy to reserve pews for groups; simply call the office at (651) several days before your visit. Purchase our recordings The Chorale has recorded music by Beethoven, Haydn and Gounod, plus Christmas music. These compact discs are available from Leaflet Missal Company, 976 West Minnehaha Avenue, Saint Paul, ( ) and at leafletonline.com. Thank you for your attendance and support! Board of Directors Twin Cities Catholic Chorale Masses are in the Ordinary Form (2002 Missale Romanum) unless otherwise noted. * denotes Masses sung by the Twin Cities Catholic Chorale. ** (EF) denotes the Extraordinary Form (1962 Missale Romanum) of the Roman Rite. 4
