4 ABOUT THE ARTISTS KEITH ROBINSON Cellist Keith Robinson is a founding member of the Miami String Quartet and has been active as a chamber musician, recitalist, and soloist since his graduation from the Curtis Institute of Music. He has had numerous solo appearances with orchestras including the New World Symphony, The American Sinfonietta, and the Miami Chamber Symphony, and in 1989 won the P.A.C.E. "Classical Artist of the Year" Award. His most recent recording released on Blue Griffin Records features the complete works of Mendelssohn for cello and piano with his colleague Donna Lee. In 1992, the Miami String Quartet became the first string quartet in a decade to win First Prize of the Concert Artists Guild New York Competition. The quartet has also received the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award, won the Grand Prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and was a member of Chamber Music Society Two. Mr. Robinson regularly attends festivals across the United States, including the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Music@Menlo, Kent Blossom Music, Mostly Mozart, Bravo! Vail, Savannah Music Festival, and the Virginia Arts Festival. Highlights of recent seasons include international appearances in Bern, Cologne, Istanbul, Lausanne, Montreal, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Paris. Mr. Robinson hails from a musical family and his siblings include Sharon Robinson of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, and Hal Robinson, principal bass of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He plays a cello made by Carlo Tononi in Venice in CLARA ABEL A native of Indianapolis, cellist Clara Abel has performed as soloist with orchestras throughout the Midwest and New York City. In the season, she toured nationally and internationally as principal cellist for Carnegie Hall s National Youth Orchestra. She has also participated in the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival and The Juilliard ChamberFest. She has attended master classes and received coachings from members of the Juilliard, Guarneri, Orion, and Tokyo String Quartets as well as The Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and Met Opera Orchestra. Ms. Abel comes from a family of musicians, and performs frequently with her immediate and extended family in the Abel String Quartet and the Cosmopolitan Chamber Players. She is also a member of the Kahlo Quartet, which was chosen to participate in Juilliard's Honors Quartet Program under the mentorship of Joseph Lin and Joel Krosnick. Currently, she is pursuing her Bachelor s Degree in Music under the tutelage of Joel Krosnick at The Juilliard School and performs on a Caspar Strnad cello generously on loan from The Juilliard School. RAMON CARRERO Venezuelan violist Ramon Carrero began his music lessons in Caracas when he was ten years old in El Sistema, the Venezuelan National Youth Orchestra Foundation founded by José Antonio Abreu in He has played with orchestras such as the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra and Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela as principal violist. He has performed worldwide in halls such as Carnegie Hall, Berlin

5 Philharmonie, Konzerthaus of Vienna, and Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and has worked under the baton of Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel, Benjamin Zander, and Frühbeck de Burgos. He has participated in international festivals including Beethoven Fest in Bonn and the Salzburg Festival. He is a founding member of the Teresa Carreño String Quartet, which won first prize in Venezuela s National Chamber Music Competition in That same year, the quartet travelled to Austria to participate in the Esterhazy Palace String Quartet Festival. The ensemble has been coached by Maestro José Antonio Abreu, the Chilingirian String Quartet, the Borromeo String Quartet, and the esteemed Quarteto Latinoamericano. Mr. Carrero is a student in the Bachelor of Music Program at Manhattan School of Music under Daniel Avshalomov. KATE DREYFUSS New York-based violinist Kate Dreyfuss is a versatile performer of classical and contemporary repertoire. She is a founding member of the Steinem Quartet, which participates in Philip Setzer's String Quartet Intensive (SQI) at Stony Brook University. She is also a core member of the new music ensemble Contemporaneous, which was recently praised by the New York Times for a "ferocious, focused" performance. In 2016, she was a featured artist at the Festival Internacional de Música Académica Contemporánea in Cuenca, Ecuador, won third prize in the Hellam Young Artists Competition in Springfield, MO, and was a fellow at the Bang on a Can Festival at Mass MoCA. Highlights from the season include performances with Contemporaneous and the Nouveau Classical Project, as well as the Chicago debut of her new trio F-PLUS (violin, clarinet, percussion), which was formed at the Bang on a Can Festival. An avid teacher, Ms. Dreyfuss joined the violin faculty of the Music Conservatory of Westchester in She is a graduate of Princeton University, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French, and is completing her Masters of Music degree at Stony Brook University, studying under Jennifer Frautschi, Arnaud Sussmann, and Philip Setzer. In addition, she studies privately with Ryan Meehan of the Calidore String Quartet. ALICE IVY-PEMBERTON Praised by the New York Times for her sweet-toned playing, Alice Ivy-Pemberton began fiddling at age four and studied violin with Nurit Pacht at the Kaufman Music Center in New York for ten years. At age 10, she performed on NPR's From the Top and the PBS series From the Top at Carnegie Hall in which she performed alongside Gil Shaham. In 2010, at age 12, she was selected to participate in the Menuhin Competition in Oslo where she was one of the eight finalists. In 2014, she performed with the violinist Robert McDuffie at the Kaufman Music Center's Benefit Gala. She was awarded the Grand Prize of the Young Artist Competition of the Ensemble 212 orchestra and performed with it as soloist. She also garnered first prize in the Young Artist Competition of Long Island's Sound Symphony, performing the Tchaikovsky violin concerto. Ms. Ivy-Pemberton has performed in many venues in New York City, including Bargemusic, Zankel Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and the Stern Auditorium/ Perelman Stage of Carnegie Hall. Last fall, she began her undergraduate studies with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho at The Juilliard School, where she is the proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. 6 JEE YOON KIM Originally from Korea, Jee Yoon Kim began playing the violin at age 10. She has won first prizes in various competitions in Korea such as Baroque Music Competition, Young Artist Competition, and Kyungki Competition. She is interested in fashion and extreme sports. She graduated from Seoul Arts High School and moved to New York in 2015 to pursue her undergraduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music in the studio of Laurie Carney. JIWON KIM Violinist and violist Jiwon Kim received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School. An avid chamber musician, she is the violist in the Steinem Quartet, which participates in Philip Setzer's String Quartet Intensive at Stony Brook University. A passionate performer of new music, she has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall as a member of New Juilliard Ensemble, Juilliard Orchestra, and Sejong Soloists. She has premiered numerous pieces working with eminent composers and contemporary ensembles. Her world premiere performance of Roberto Sierra s Duo Concertante for violin and viola as part of Summergarden series at the Museum of Modern Art was reviewed by the New York Times and New York Classical Review as high-energy and high quality. During her years at Juilliard, Ms. Kim studied chamber music with Andre Emelianoff, Toby Appel, Lewis Kaplan, Joseph Kalichstein, and Charles Neidich among many others. She has also worked with the renowned Tokyo String Quartet, Ying String Quartet, Anner Bylsma, Joseph Silverstein, Krzysztof Wegrzyn, and Ole Akahoshi at international summer festivals, master classes, and young artist programs including The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Young Musicians program, Banff Chamber Music Residency, and Great Mountains Festival. Currently, Ms. Kim is pursuing her doctorate degree at Stony Brook University in violin and viola, studying under Jennifer Frautschi, Nicholas Cords, and the Emerson String Quartet. LUCIA KOBZA Originally from Switzerland, violinist Lucia Kobza pursued her Master s degree at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and just recently moved to Long Island, NY in order to pursue her Doctor in Musical Arts degree at Stony Brook University. A passionate chamber musician, she joined the Steinem Quartet, which participates in Philip Setzer's String Quartet Intensive (SQI) at Stony Brook University, in During her studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, she was a member of Chrysalis Chamber Music Institute s Giannini String Quartet, which led to opportunities such as sharing the stage with pipa virtuoso and founding member of the Silk Road Ensemble Wu Man, and playing for world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, as well as performing at Lincoln Center in New York. Simultaneously with her studies at UNCSA, Ms. Kobza served as Associate Principal of the Greensboro Symphony, Assistant Concertmaster of the Western-Piedmont Symphony, and was a member of the Winston-Salem Symphony. As soloist she appeared with the UNCSA Symphony and Western Piedmont Chamber Orchestra, and as first prize winner of the Elizabeth Harper Vaughn Concerto Competition, she will perform with the Symphony of the Mountains this season.

7 NILES LUTHER Niles Luther began playing the cello when he was four years old. In 2011 he began his formal training with Ole Akahoshi. He is an avid chamber musician and teaches at the Elm City ChamberFest, an audition based chamber group and summer program based at Yale University. Outside of music, he actively pursues philosophy, social activism, athletics, and living fully human. Currently, Mr. Luther is an undergraduate student at the Manhattan School of Music where he studies with Marion Feldman. ROAN MA Roan Ma is a multi-faceted musician with a wide range of musical interests. She is involved in historical performance and was invited to perform with the faculty orchestra of Oberlin Conservatory s 2016 Baroque Performance Institute. Additionally, she has played both violin and harpsichord in Manhattan School of Music s Baroque Aria Ensemble. A long-term interest of Ms. Ma s is the study and performance of works by obscure, forgotten, and anonymous musicians. Recently, she has begun venturing into the world of music performance with electronics. She s also an avid amateur entomologist, conducting research projects every summer raising Eastern Black Swallowtail and Monarch butterflies, among other insects. Ms. Ma is currently studying under Laurie Carney of the American String Quartet, and studied under Albert Markov during her undergrad at Manhattan School of Music. Ms. Ma is pursuing her Master s degree in Violin Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. ALISON ROWE An avid chamber musician, cellist Alison Rowe performs repertoire from the Baroque through contemporary eras. Highlights of the season include performances with the New York based new music ensemble Contemporaneous, the Chamber Music at the Barns Series at Wolftrap in Virginia, and the Hoch Chamber Music Series at Concordia College with members of the Emerson String Quartet, the Three Village Chamber Players, the Stony Brook University Baroque Ensemble, and the Stony Brook Roots Ensemble, a group that explores traditional American music. This past summer she attended the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival where she was a recipient of the Aldo and Elizabeth Parisot Scholarship. Ms. Rowe is the cellist in the Steinem Quartet, which participates in Philip Setzer's String Quartet Intensive at Stony Brook University. As a soloist, she has performed on Wisconsin Public Radio as a winner of the Neale-Silva Young Artists Competition, and on the Rising Stars Series in Green Lake, Wisconsin. As a student of Richard Hirschl, she received her Bachelor's degree from the Chicago College of the Performing Arts where she performed the Barber Cello Concerto as the winner of the CCPA Concerto Competition. Last spring she graduated with a Master of Music degree from Stony Brook University, where she is continuing her studies and pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in the studio of Colin Carr. RANNVEIG MARTA SARC Icelandic-Slovenian violinist, Rannveig Marta Sarc began playing the violin at age four. She s won numerous competitions such as the Young Artist Competition in Zagreb, TEMSIG- Slovenian Music Competition for Youth, Reykjavik College of Music Concerto Competition and The Iceland Symphony Solo Competition. As a soloist, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center

8 Ms. Sarc has appeared with orchestras such as the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Reykjavik College of Music Orchestra, the Bacau Mihail Jora Philharmonic, and the Slovene Philharmonic. A passionate chamber musician, she has performed in venues such as Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik and Carnegie Hall in New York and frequently performs with Cammerarctica-Chamber Music Society of Iceland. Ms. Sarc has participated in music festivals including NAC-Young Artists Program, Sarasota Music Festival, the Heifetz Institute, and Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival. She is currently pursuing her third year of Bachelor Degree studies at The Juilliard School, under the guidance of Laurie Smukler. Other teachers include Grigory Kalinovsky, Pinchas Zukerman, Patinka Kopec, Mimi Zweig, and Ilya Kaler. LISA SUNG Hailed by the Australian Daily Telegraph as a viola prodigy, Australian-Korean violist Lisa Sung is an avid chamber musician and soloist and has frequently performed at the Sydney Opera House and across Europe and Korea. She is a prizewinner at the Twelfth Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition (2016), winner of the International String Player Award at the Tenth Gisborne International Music Competition, and a twotime winner of the Australian States Concerto Competition. A keen chamber musician, Ms. Sung has attended renowned chamber music festivals including Music@ Menlo and Taos School of Music, where she worked with the Borromeo, Brentano, and Shanghai String Quartets. A founding member of the Kahlo Quartet, she is presently in the esteemed Juilliard Chamber Music Honors Program. Ms. Sung is currently a thirdyear undergraduate at The Juilliard School, where she studies with Paul Neubauer as a proud recipient of the inaugural Kovner Fellowship Scholarship.
