This year s event is special in several ways that we hope will provide a wonderful and inspiring experience for all involved. On campus today are a duo of amazing guest artists comprised of oboist, Nancy Ambrose King and bassoonist, Eric Stomberg. artists NANCY AMBROSE KING, oboe, is the first-prize winner of the Third New York International Competition for Solo Oboists, held in 1995.

She has recorded nine CDs of works for the oboe.

5 artists NANCY AMBROSE KING, oboe, is the first-prize winner of the Third New York International Competition for Solo Oboists, held in She has appeared as soloist throughout the United States and abroad. She has performed as recitalist in Weill Recital Hall and as soloist at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. She has recorded nine CDs of works for the oboe. She is on the faculty of the Sarasota Music Festival, has appeared as a recitalist throughout the world and was a member of the jury for the esteemed 2009 Barbirolli Oboe Competition. Ms. King has written a highly successful e-book for Apple I-Tunes titled Making Oboe Reeds from Start to Finish with Nancy Ambrose King. Currently Professor of Oboe and Chair of the Winds & Percussion Department at the University of Michigan, she was previously Associate Professor and University Scholar at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and served as the first female President of the International Double Reed Society. She has also served on the music faculties of several other universites and music festivals. Professor King received her Doctor of Musical Arts, Master of Music, and Performer s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, studying with Richard Killmer. A graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Music degree where she studied with Arno Mariotti and Harry Sargous, Ms. King was the recipient of the school s prestigious Stanley Medal and was honored with the 2010 Hall of Fame Award by the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance. ERIC STOMBERG enjoys a wide-ranging musical career as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and artist-teacher. He plays with elegance and refinement while displaying impeccable tone and technique (American Record Guide). Stomberg maintains an active teaching schedule with positions as Professor of Bassoon at the University of Kansas, Instructor of Bassoon at the Interlochen Arts Academy, and as woodwind faculty for the Filarmónica Joven De Colombia. Stomberg has taught on the bassoon faculty at the Sarasota Music Festival and Interlochen Arts Camp and has held orchestral positions over the past fifteen years. As a soloist, Stomberg most recently joined the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia for a performance of Rossini s Concerto for Bassoon. Stomberg s most recent CD release (Naxos), has been met with critical acclaim by Fanfare Magazine: the disc s highlight is bassoonist Eric Stomberg s remarkably characterful traversal of [Jennifer] Higdon s Dark Wood witty, volatile and arresting. He can also be heard on the Azica, Novona, Summit and Telarc record labels. Stomberg has given master classes at numerous institutions. He teaches at the Interlochen Arts Camp, where he also serves as Associate Director of Music. Stomberg is also active in professional societies serving as First Vice President for the International Double Reed Society and as the past President of the Midwest Double Reed Society.

She can be heard on Albany Records with the Prairie Winds and the Musical Arts Quintet. DARREL HALE recently joined the Louisiana State University faculty as the Assistant Professor of Bassoon. Mr. Hale holds degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder where he studied with Dr. Yoshiyuki Ishikawa and from the College-Conservatory of Music where he studied with William Winstead and Martin James. An active orchestral performer, Mr. Hale has served as the principal bassoon of the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and most recently as the Acting Principal Bassoon of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Cincinnati Symphony, Dayton Philharmonic, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Chattanooga Symphony, and Cincinnati Symphony Chamber Players. As a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, Mr. Hale performed for several seasons alongside his teacher and mentor, Per Hannevold, in the Aspen Festival Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician, Darrel Hale performs with the Timm Woodwind Quintet, and is a member of the Conundrum Trio. DIANNE FRAZER is recognized globally as a premiere collaborative pianist. Known for her wit and style on and off stage, she exudes an energy and an excitement that is both irresistible and endearing. She has performed with a "who s who of international artists, and has performed in Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and Merkin Hall. According to Branford Marsalis, "Dianne is one bad-ass pianist!! Dianne is on the faculty at Louisiana State University, and is a principal pianist for the National Flute Association, International Society of Bassists, World Bass Festival in Poland, and has performed at the Oberstdorf Music Festival in Germany, ISI Florence in Italy, Bradetich International Double Bass Competition, International Hornists Society, International Trumpet Guild, North American Saxophone Alliance, and the International Clarinet Association conventions. In 2008, she was an adjudicator for the prestigious Dranoff International Two Piano Competition. Dianne holds two performance degrees, was a two-time Fischoff finalist, and for many years enjoyed the two-piano repertoire concertizing with her duo, the Cross-Meidar Duo.
