2 FRIENDS OF KING S Become a Friend of King s and support King s College Chapel and Choir The Chapel of King s College, Cambridge, is one of the most important medieval buildings in Europe. For the last five centuries, choral services have been an essential part of the daily life of the College. The architectural majesty of the Chapel and the great musical quality of the Choir are admired and loved by millions of people the world over. Yet the College is solely responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the Chapel and the costs of the Choir. Over the years our friends and supporters have contributed to the restoration and conservation of the Chapel, funded choristerships and bursaries, provided music practice rooms and renovated the Chapel music library. By becoming a Friend of King s, you will benefit from a privileged relationship with the College, help secure the future of the Chapel and Choir and ensure that they remain world treasures. To find out more about how you can become a Friend of King's and support the King s College Chapel and Choir, please visit or contact us at: Friends of King s King s College Cambridge CB2 1ST Tel: +44 (0) friends@kings.cam.ac.uk CALENDAR Saturday 13 March 5.30pm Foundation Concert Tuesday 30 March 6.00pm James MacMillan, in conversation with James Naughtie, on the interplay of faith and music 8.30pm Pilgrim s Progress Wednesday 31 March 6.30pm Bach St Matthew Passion Maundy Thursday 1 April 5.30pm Sung Eucharist and Stripping of the Altar 8.30pm Chamber music for Maundy Thursday Good Friday 2 April 10.30am Ante-Communion and Veneration of the Cross 5.00pm Choral Evensong 7.00pm James MacMillan St John Passion Holy Saturday 3 April 7.30pm Britten Sinfonia Easter Day Sunday 4 April 10.30am Sung Eucharist 3.30pm Festal Evensong Easter Monday 5 April 4.00pm James Lancelot plays Bach, Messiaen & Duruflé Public booking for all concerts opens Monday 25 January Attending Services Members of the public are welcome to attend all services at King s; no tickets are required for any listed here. In this setting, the part of the narrator is taken by a chamber choir, with the main chorus and soloist commenting on the action. A blazing blockbuster, a piece as fiercely communicative as anything that the composer has written before... the end of Part One was masterly: no loudspeaker wailing as the Crucifixion loomed, but a resigned, pianissimo meditation, threaded with keening instrumental solos.
