4 Deep Red Monday, January 29, 2018 Our cycle of Luciano Berio s Sequenzas kicks off with Sequenza VIII for violin. Clarinet, violin and marimba all take turns leading this program. Bharat Chandra joins our string quartet in Kernis Perpetual Chaconne, and George Nickson joins composer Bright Sheng who will be with us to conduct his dreamscape marimba concerto, Deep Red. "The Space Around You" looks beyond the individual performers and draws the audience into an experience that interacts with the inanimate body of James Turrell s Joseph s Coat. It provides a macro view of our surroundings, mirroring the atmosphere and changing light of the sky. "The Magical World of Berio s Sequenzas" does the opposite, focusing intensely on the individual performer s voice as virtuoso and soloist: a micro view of each performer and their instrument as they weave a journey through deeply personal human and musical expression.
