9 Fabulous Flute Tone Tricks FIRST -make sure your embouchure is fabulous -pout like a model -check your vapor trail (fog on head joint) in a mirror and make sure it s a triangle -Make sure your jaw is slightly open, teeth slightly apart -remember our spacers (erasers, grapes) -Move your airstream up and down until you find the sweet spot -make sure your posture is fabulous -Chin lifted, airways open and relaxed -right hand wrist straight, like a bridge for the ants to crawl up THEN -try flutter tonguing -say ARRRRRRIBA and roll your tongue -then play while your tongue is still fluttering -try singing and playing -sing a low laaaaa -change the laaaaa to an ooooo, dropping the jaw -get your embouchure set while singing ooooo -place lip plate on the lip and keep singing -articulate your ooooo (so you re saying tooo ) -blow air through the flute and keep the throat vibrating/keep singing -you should hear a double tone, and it should tickle a little REMEMBER -to keep your air steady; remember the pinwheels, make them spin fast -to use just the tip, one tastebud, of your tongue -tongue doesn t stop the air, it BARELY interrupts it -tip of tongue should touch roof of mouth behind top teeth -Keep practicing; don t give up You CAN make a beautiful sound Amy Icossipentarhos 2007
