3 UIS Camerata Members: Samantha Hwang, violin; Savannah Brannan, viola; Natalie Kerr, violin; Kevin Loitz, cello; with Professor Yona Stamatis, violin Pianist Pei-I Wang received her Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance and literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, where she studied piano with pianist and conductor Dr. Ian Hobson, and vocal coaching and accompanying with Prof. Dennis Helmrich. She has received awards in many competitions, such as the Liszt-Garrison International piano Competition, the Mauro Paolo Monopoli Prize, the 21st Century Piano Commission Competition, and the UIUC Concerto Competition and has performed with the Illinois Symphony Chamber Orchestra, the Sangamon Valley Civic Orchestra, the UIUC Symphony Orchestra, the UIS Band, and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra as a soloist. Pei-I is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano and is an active member of several professional organizations, including: Music Teachers National Association, National Federation of Music Clubs, College Music Society, and American Liszt Society. Currently, she teaches piano at UIS and serves as President of Decatur Area Music Teachers Association.

4 Sandro Vazquez is an honorable mention soloist in the UIS Music Soloist Competition, a member of the UIS Camerata Scholarship Program, sings in the UIS Chorus and performs euphonium in the UIS Band. He is majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Music. He looks forward to starting as a Software Development at State Farm in the summer; beginning the next chapter of his life. Robert Sears maintains an active performance schedule as both a classical and jazz musician. He currently plays with Transit Brass, the Iron Post Jazz Orchestra, Sycamore Brass and regularly performs with symphony orchestras in Central Illinois. Robert is the Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet at the University of Illinois Springfield. He also coaches a high school Honor Brass Quintet sponsored by the Conservatory of Central Illinois, and is the director of Jazz Band II at Champaign Central High School. Robert holds a B.M. in Music Education from Brigham Young University-Idaho, a M.M. in Trumpet Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign and is pursuing a D.M.A. in Jazz Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He studies with Tito Carrillo and Charles Daval. Previous trumpet instructors include founding Canadian Brass member Ronald Romm, Dr. Ryan Nielsen, Dr. K. Newell Dayley and David Evans. Alexis Hobson is an honorable mention soloist in the UIS Music Soloist competition and is majoring in Biology/Pre-Medicine at UIS. She has participated in chorus for six semesters and also sings in small groups within the chorus. She was an honorable mention soloist in the UIS Music Soloist Competition in Alexis is a recipient of the Schnirring Dungan Music Scholarship and the Betty Carico Fine Arts Scholarship and has been singing and playing piano for most of her life.

5 Dr. Abigail Walsh is the Applied Music Specialist at UIS where she coaches and conducts the UIS Band, the UIS Camerata ensembles, and teaches flute. She is also the flute instructor at Illinois College and maintains a private flute studio and performance schedule. Abigail performs regularly with Dr. Pei-I Wang as part of Music Wall Duo and with the Central Illinois Woodwind Quintet. She teaches at the Flute by the Sea Masterclass each May in Matunuck RI and has recently performed as a featured soloist with the Cedar Rapids, Decatur and Taylorville Municipal Bands. She holds DMA and MM degrees from the Hartt School and her BM from the University of Iowa. Please visit UIS Chorus Spring 2017

10 THE UIS MUSIC PROGRAM The UIS Music program welcomes students from all majors to take classes in ethnomusicology, music history, music theory, music technology and music performance. Music courses fulfill a variety of UIS General Education Requirements. Students may also use these courses to earn an undergraduate Minor Degree in Music.
