Its repertoire mostly consists of Latvian folksong arrangements and original musical compositions with lyrics from Latvian traditional folklore. In a very short time Latvian Voices received awards at several international contests including vokal.total in Graz, Austria, A CAPPELLA in Leipzig, Germany and The World Choir Games in Cincinnati, USA. This is a selection of 10 a cappella songs from the Latvian Voices repertoire. Cat. The group has established sincere relationships and cooperation with new and world-recognised Latvian composers - Ēriks Ešenvalds, Rihards Dubra, Andris Dzenītis, Uģis Prauliņš, and others. No. MB1843 ISMN CD also available VOCAL GROUP COSMOS: SELECTED SONGS for mixed voices Vocal group Cosmos was established in 2002 by the young and talented graduates of Riga Cathedral Choir School- Jānis Šipkēvics, Andris Sējāns, Juris Lisenko, Jānis Ozols and Jānis Strazdiņš who were soon joined by Reinis Sējāns. Cosmos was one of the most popular groups in Latvia and quickly also built its reputation abroad. The group was active until 2010, and released six albums. Their repertoire was buit on the group members - Andris Sējāns, Reinis Sējāns and Jānis Šipkevics - own arrangements and compositions. Contents This is a selection of 9 a cappella songs. Cat. 2 CHOIR RIHARDS DUBRA IN PARADISUM IN PARADISUM Rihards Dubra is well known as a sacred music composer. His musical talent reveals the deepest meanings of the word. So it does with In Paradisum, dedicated to Christian Günther. In this piece the composer took excerpts of Latin liturgical text and wrote a prayer for a better, more peaceful life. When Jančevskis started writing this piece, he couldn t have imagined that a Zolitūde shopping centre roof would collapse, resulting in the deaths of 54 people and shocking the Latvian public. This piece is dedicated to those who lost their lives in that accident. Language: Latvian Jančevskis, Jēkabs (*1992) With the Quiet Starlight For mixed choir (Solo S, SSSSAAAATTTTBBBB; kokle) ISMN MB 1936 AVE MARIS STELLA Ave Maris Stella (Latin, Hail Star of the Sea ) is a plainsong Vespers hymn to the Virgin Mary. The composer used this Liturgical text as the basis of this piece, invoking a sacred mood. This piece tells the story of young girl who climbs a hill to collect flowers to decorate her hair and then goes down to the river to wash her face.

Many composers including Selga Mence, Platons Buravickis, Anitra Tumševica, Evija Vecumniece, Ieva Klingenberga, Laura Gustovska, Juta Bērziņa, and Ēriks Ešenvalds provide the musical interludes and backgrounds during the storytelling. The music is performed by the combined orchestras of the Jāzeps Mediņš 1st Rīga College of Music and the Pāvuls Jurjāns College of Music, conducted by Laura Staša and Valdis Butāns. It is a unique piece, which includes aspects of the associated cultural historical heritage. The composer Ēriks Ešenvalds went on several expeditions to northern Norway to meet his collaboration partner in this project the Norwegian, Kjetil Skogli, a professional Northern Lights photographer and video maker. He also visited Iceland, Greenland, Russia and northern Alaska (USA). While there, he recorded nature sounds (breathing of whales in the fjords, frost cracking the tree barks, wind gales and dogs howling) as well as the tales and folksongs of the Northern Lights as told by the Nordic nations. All of these materials will be used while the symphony is performed. From that I made his own language or way of communication in the past or present. In some moments I just tried to catch the elusive mood of their work and personalities.
