4 OSRAM LED TECHNOLOGY Tiny light with enormous strengths: all you need to know about the LED. Light emitting diodes are based on semiconductors that convert electric current into light. Measuring just a few centimeters in length, LEDs are a valuable alternative to conventional light sources in many areas of general lighting. g NEW: IN WARM WHITE New lighting technology. In contrast to incandescent lamps, which produce a continuous spectrum, an LED emits light of a particular color. The color of the light depends on the semiconductor material used. White light. To produce white light, the light of blue LEDs is passed through yellow phosphors. The composition of the phosphor determines the light color. By selecting appropriate white LEDs, it is possible to offer LED systems with the same light colors as fl uorescent lamps (Warm White, Neutral White and Daylight). FineWHITE LED modules W3F The new FineWHITE LED modules W3F from OSRAM meet the highest demands in groundbreaking lighting technology. Whereas in previous LED applications, the color shades within one module used to differ, OSRAM has created a new generation of white LED modules. The result: highest color homogeneity within one module and there fore fi rst-class standard quality. For the illumination of white surfaces such as in wallwashing, this means homogeneous lighting scenarios. The advantages of FineWHITE products become especially evident in sensitive applications, for instance when individual LED light spots are visible next to each other, or in backlighting with low installation depth and diffuse covers. More over, W3F products offer 50 to 100 % more light output than their W2 forerunners while having the same power consumption. With W3F Fine- WHITE products, OSRAM offers a level of LED light quality which, in terms of homogeneity, is on par with the established standard for fl uorescent lamps. 4

Movement sensors reduce energy consumption, and the LEDs reach full light intensity immediately. Even if the LEDs are switched on and off very often, their life cycle is not shortened.
