4 Gettig Started Step 1 Upackig Check that you have received the followig items with the VCR: Remote commader 75-ohm coaxial cable with F-type coectors Size AA (R6) batteries Plug adaptor (SLV-L59 CL/CS/PR, L79HF CL/CS ad L89HF CL/CS oly) Audio/video cable (3-phoo to 3- phoo) (SLV-L69HF MX, L72HF PA/ PC, L79HF CL/CS/VZ, L89HF CL/ CS/MX/VZ ad X66HF MX oly) If the plug supplied with your VCR does ot fit your power outlet, attach the supplied adaptor to the plug. Isert the egative ( ) ed first, the push i ad dow util the positive (+) ed clicks ito positio. Usig the remote commader You ca use this remote commader to operate this VCR ad a Soy TV. Buttos o the remote commader marked with a dot ( ) ca be used to operate your Soy TV. Remote sesor TV / VIDEO 1/u To operate the VCR a Soy TV Set TV / VIDEO to VIDEO ad poit at the remote sesor o the VCR TV ad poit at the remote sesor o the TV Notes With ormal use, the batteries should last about three to six moths. 6 Step 2: Settig up the remote commader (cotiued) Cotrollig other TVs with the remote commader (SLV-L69HF MX, L72HF PA/PC, L79HF CL/CS/VZ, L89HF CL/CS/MX/VZ ad X66HF MX oly) The remote commader is preprogrammed to cotrol o-soy TVs. If your TV is listed i the table below, set the appropriate maufacturer s code umber. 1 Set TV / VIDEO at the top of the remote commader to TV. 2 Hold dow 1/u, ad eter your TV s code umber(s) usig the umber buttos. The release 1/u. Now you ca use the 1/u, VOL +/, CH +/ ad TV/VIDEO buttos to cotrol your TV. You ca also use the buttos marked with a dot ( ) to cotrol a Soy TV. If you eter a ew code umber, the code umber previously etered will be erased. Whe you replace the batteries of the remote commader, the code umber may chage. Set the appropriate code umber every time you replace the batteries. Whe you press the AUDIO MONITOR butto, your TV s meu may appear o the TV scree. To exit the TV meu, press the MENU butto o the TV remote commader or wait util the meu disappears automatically.

7 Gettig Started Step 3 Hookups Selectig the best hookup optio There are may ways i which your VCR ca be hooked up. To hook up your VCR so that it works best for you, first sca through the table below. The use the accompayig diagrams ad procedures o the followig pages to set up your VCR. If you wat to use the timer to record right away, or if the cable TV statio i your area does ot broadcast SETV, or if SETV i your area does ot carry time sigals, set the clock maually. After that, wheever you tur off the VCR, it checks the time ad adjusts the clock, eve for Daylight Savig Time. The VCR sets the clock by pickig up time sigals provided by Soy Etertaimet Televisio (SETV). If you wat to use the timer to record right away, or if the cable TV statio i your area does ot broadcast SETV, or if SETV i your area does ot carry time sigals, set the clock maually. How to coect to use this fuctio Coect the VCR ad TV with the audio/video cable (see Audio/video (A/V) hookup o pages 8 ad 9). Be sure to coect the audio/video cable to the VIDEO IN 1 jacks o the TV if the TV has two iputs or more. The TV must be placed where it will respod to the remote commader while you are poitig it at the VCR. Operatio Make sure that the TV s power is i stadby mode. Press TRINITRON TV SYNCHRO PLAY ad hold the remote commader i place for about two secods. The VCR ad TV tur o, ad the TV is set to the video chael. 61 How soud is recorded o a video tape The VCR records soud oto two separate tracks. Hi-fi audio is recorded oto the mai track alog with the picture. Moaural soud is recorded oto the ormal audio track alog the edge of the tape. 62 Adjustig the picture Adjustig the trackig Although the VCR automatically adjusts the trackig whe playig a tape (the idicator flashes i the display widow, the goes off), distortio may occur if the tape was recorded i poor coditio. I this case, maually adjust the trackig. Press TRACKING +/ to display the trackig meter. The distortio should disappear as you press oe of the two buttos (the idicator lights up). To resume automatic trackig adjustmet, eject the tape ad reisert it. NORMAL TRACKING Trackig meter About the Adaptive Picture Cotrol (APC) fuctio The Adaptive Picture Cotrol (APC) fuctio automatically improves recordig ad playback quality by adjustig the VCR to the coditio of the video heads ad tape. To maitai better picture quality, we recommed that you set APC to ON i the ADVANCED OPTIONS meu (with the APC idicator i the display widow lit). For details, see page 64. APC playback The APC fuctio automatically works o all types of tapes, icludig retal tapes ad tapes that were ot recorded with APC. APC recordig Wheever you isert a tape ad first start recordig, the VCR adjusts to the tape usig the APC fuctio (the APC idicator flashes rapidly). This adjustmet is retaied util the tape is ejected. Notes Auto trackig adjustmet caot be guarateed to work with tapes recorded i LP mode o other VCRs. The APC fuctio does ot work if the tape speed is automatically chaged from the SP to EP mode durig a timer recordig whe AUTO TAPE SPEED to ON i the ADVANCED OPTIONS meu, uless the tape has bee recorded i the EP mode with the APC fuctio. There is a delay of about te secods before the VCR actually starts recordig while the VCR aalyzes the tape. To avoid the delay, first set the VCR to recordig pause (the APC idicator flashes slowly) ad press r REC to have the VCR aalyze the tape (the APC idicator flashes rapidliy). After the APC idicator stops flashig, press P PAUSE to start recordig immediately. 69 Troubleshootig If you have ay questios or problems ot covered below, please cosult your earest Soy dealer. Clock Power Playback Symptom The 1/u switch does ot fuctio. The power is tured o but the VCR does ot operate. The clock has stopped ad : lights i the display widow. The playback picture does ot appear o the TV scree. The picture is ot clear. The picture rolls vertically durig picture search. The picture has o soud. Remedy Coect the AC power cord securely. Make sure the VCR is ot locked. To ulock, hold dow 1/uPOWER o the VCR util the H idicator disappears. Moisture codesatio occurs. Tur the power off, uplug the AC power cord ad leave the VCR to dry for over three hours. The clock stops if the VCR is discoected from the wall outlet for more tha eight hours. Reset the clock (ad the timer). Make sure the TV is set to the chael for the VCR. If you are usig a moitor, set it to video iput. Adjust the trackig with the TRACKING +/ buttos. The video heads are dirty (see below). Clea the video heads usig the Soy T-25CLD, T-25CLDR, or T- 25CLW video head cleaig cassette. If these cleaig cassettes are ot available i your area, have the heads cleaed at your earest Soy service facility (a stadard service fee will be charged). Do ot use a commercially available liquid-type cleaig cassette other tha Soy s, as it may damage the video heads. The video heads may have to be replaced. Cosult your local Soy dealer for more iformatio. Adjust the vertical hold cotrol o the TV or moitor. The tape is defective. If you made A/V coectios, check the audio cable coectio.
