3 Version Release Note About this Release This is a feature release for Ultra TQ systems running version 3.3.##.# software. The Ultra TQ V3.4 User Guide describes these new features and is available to download from the Manuals, Guides & Application Notes pages of the Omnitek web-site ( Installation Instructions 1. Backup any Viewer, Configuration and Connections presets. Presets created on Ultra TQ systems, running 3.3 software, will be migrated to version 3.4. It is recommended that existing Presets are backup before upgrading the software. Presets can be exported using the down arrow on the number pad of Presets section. A file containing copies of the Preset details for the current screen is then added either to the Download folder on the computer controlling the Ultra or where the Ultra isn t being controlled via a web browser, to a USB stick plugged into the back panel. 2. Download Ultra TQ software from link supplied by Support The Ultra TQ software is supplied as an.omk file (for example ultra_3_4_58_0.omk). This can be installed in 2 different ways, via USB stick or via a network connection. Software Installation via USB stick: Down load the software and copy the.omk file into the root directory of a FAT32 USB stick. Insert the USB stick into one of the USB slots on the rear panel of the Ultra unit. After around 30 seconds the Ultra should recognise the new software file to be installed. When the prompt appears to install the software, select the software listed and press OK After about 2 minutes the software will be installed and the Ultra unit will reboot. Software Installation via Network: Down load the software and copy the.omk file into network folder accessible to the web browser controlling the Ultra unit. In the "Configuration" - "System" menu select the "S/W Update" function in the "Files" section. Navigate to where the.omk file is held then select it. When the prompt appears to install the software, select the software listed and press OK After about 2 minutes the software will be installed and the Ultra unit will reboot. Ultra TQ Update 3

4 3. Restore Presets (if required) Previously saved preset file can be restored into the system using the up arrow on the number pad of Presets section. There are no restrictions on the filename or the location of the file that is imported as long as it is accessible to the Control device that is being used and it retains its original.oaf file type. All the Presets stored in the selected file are imported. Use the file selector that is displayed to pick out the appropriate.oaf file. A dialogue will be displayed detailing the Presets that have been imported. Click the Close button to clear this message from the screen. 4 03/18

5 New Features Audio Lissajous Tile Lissajous Description The Audio Lissajous tile displays either the phase relationship of a stereo pair of audio channels or a surround view showing the relationship of the different pairs of audio that make up a 5.1 surround sound mix. Audio Lissajous Controls The Audio Lissajous control panel at the right of the screen can be used to configure the Lissajous display. Display mode allows the selection of Stereo pair or Surround audio display modes. Channels allows the selection of a pair of SDI audio channels when Stereo Pair has been selected. Note that the audio channels that make up the surround audio are defined in the Configuration - Audio menu. Colour selects the Lissajous waveform colour from the choice of white, green or cyan. Graticule when selected (I) turns on the Lissajous display graticule. Enable AGC (automatic gain control) when selected (I) ensures that the Lissajous waveform remains within the defined area of the graticule when the audio channel level changes. Interpolate when selected (I) interpolates the adjacent samples to display a smooth waveform. See the Embedded Surround Sources section of the Configuration - Audio menu for details about how to assigned SDI audio channels to the Surround view. Ultra TQ Update 5

6 A/V Delay Tile The A/V Delay tile, under the Audio menu shows the AV Delay of the embedded audio channels when using the Omnitek TSA sequence. This displays the AV delay of each of the individual audio channels with respect to the video. Delay Frames Delay ms indicates the number of frames that the particular audio channel is delayed or advanced with respect to the video image. indicates the number of milliseconds that the particular audio channel is delayed or advanced with respect to the video image. Omnitek TSA Sequence The Omnitek TSA sequence has a clock in the form of binary incrementing yellow squares in the top left corner of the image which increment with each frame of the sequence. The audio tone associated with this test sequence is muted on the single frame that corresponds to frame 1 of the TSA clock sequence. Measuring AV Delay To measure the AV delay the following needs to be setup: Select the Omnitek TSA sequence in the Generator menu Enable the Audio in Generator menu for the channels that need to be measured Set the Audio Click Mode set to Mutes on frame 1 In the Viewer menu select the A/V Delay tile. Feed the Omnitek TSA sequence into the unit or equipment chain to be measured. Monitor the output of the unit or equipment chain using the A/V Delay tile. The individual AV delays for each audio channel should be displayed in frames and milliseconds. 6 03/18

7 Audio Errors Tile The Audio Errors tile, under the Audio menu shows. The number in the "Value" column indicates the number of failures in the current frame. The value in the "Total Errors" column show the number of failures since the last reset. The value in the "% EFPS" (error frames per second) indicates the number of failures as a percentage of all of the frames since the last reset. CRC Parity Z-Bit Cyclic Redundancy Check. The system calculates a new 16-bit CCITT CRC values from the incoming data, and compares this value with the actual CRC value embedded in the data. If there is a difference between the expected and actual CRC value, this will be recorded as an error. Displays the status of the audio parity bit. If there is a difference between the expected and actual parity, this will be recorded as an error. Displays the status of the 'z flag' that has been derived from the AES3 stream preamble and is common to the two channels of an AES audio pair. If there is a difference between the expected and actual z flag value, this will be recorded as an error. The Audio Errors control panel, displayed at the right of the screen when the Audio Errors tile is selected, allows the selection of Chan 1-8 and Chan 9-16 Ultra TQ Update 7

8 Status Viewer Display Status Viewer Description The Status Viewer tile shows both video and audio channel status in a single tile. The contents of the tile can be selected from different tables in the Status Viewer Control Panel. Chan 1-8 Error Checking Section FVH TRS TRS Position CRC ANC Line Picture Section Motion Stuck Bits Embedded Audio Section Field Vertical Horizontal timing reference. This will display incorrectly timed, missing or damaged FVH words. Timing Reference Signal. A TRS word appears at the start of each video line and this will display missing or damaged TRS words. The position of the TRS word will be checked by the system and if any are in the wrong position it will be displayed here. Cyclic Redundancy Check. The system calculates a new 16-bit CCITT CRC values from the incoming data, and compares this value with the actual CRC value embedded in the data. If there is a difference, this is flagged as an error. The CRC values that have been calculated for the active area and for each full field/ frame are also displayed. This data may be used to assess the degree to which video data has been degraded by the path over which it has been transmitted The system calculates a new 16-bit CCITT CRC values from the ancillary data, and compares this value with the actual CRC value embedded in the data. If there is a difference, this is flagged as an error. The Line entry counts TRS packets where the line number specified does not agree with the line number calculated internally. Note: This entry is only applicable to HD and 3G video: Line numbers are not included in TRS packets in SD. indicates the number of frames that the image has been frozen. indicates if there are stuck bits in the video data. This section details the parameters for audio channels 1-8 of the SDI data streams: Clip Over indicates if the audio for the particular channel has clipped. The number of audio samples that are permitted before the audio is clipped when the audio level exceeds the permitted level for the chosen Audio Meter type and can be set in the Audio Meters section of the Configuration - Audio menu. indicates if the audio for the particular channel has exceed the permitted level. The level is set by the chosen Audio Meter type and can be set in the Audio Meters section of the Configuration - Audio menu. 8 03/18

9 Mute Silence Peak Level indicates if the audio for the particular channel has become mute for the defined number of audio samples. The level is set by the chosen Audio Meter type and can be set in the Audio Meters section of the Configuration - Audio menu. indicates if the audio for the particular channel has become silent. This is defined by the Silence Level and Silence Period for the chosen Audio Meter type and can be set in the Audio Meters section of the Configuration - Audio menu. indicates the highest level that has occurred on the particular audio channel. indicates the current level on the particular audio channel. Chan 9-16 Table 2 of the Status Viewer tile shows the Error Checking, Picture and Embedded Audio section parameters that work in the same way as Table 1, but displays audio channels 9-16 instead of channels 1-8. Chan 1-16 Table 3 of the Status Viewer tile shows the Error Checking and Picture section parameters that work in the same way as Table 1, but the Embedded Audio section provides the following details of all SDI audio channels. Dolby Type Embedded Audio Delay Section indicates the type of audio data on the particular audio channel. This can be PCM, Dolby E, Dolby D or Dolby D+ This section details the individual AV delays of each audio channel with respect to the video image when using the Omnitek TSA sequence. 10 Propagation Delay Measurement Page 3 of Video Status tile displays the propagation delay of the Omnitek TSA test sequence though an equipment chain. Using the Generator to supply the Omnitek TSA sequence to the start of equipment chain allows the propagation delay to be measured at any point. The maximum propagation delay that can be measured is determined by the length of the Omnitek TSA sequence that is being generated. The sequence has a clock in the form of a yellow squares in the top left corner of the image and this increments with each frame in the sequence. Delay Frames Delay ms indicates the number of frames delay compared to the generated test sequence. indicates the number of milliseconds delay compared to the generated test sequence. Measuring Propagation Delay To measure the propagation delay the following needs to be setup: Select the Omnitek TSA sequence in the Generator menu In the Viewer menu select page 3 of the Video Status tile. Feed the Omnitek TSA sequence into the unit or equipment chain to be measured. Monitor the output of the unit or equipment chain using the Video Status tile. The propagation delay should be displayed in frames and milliseconds /18

11 SDI Output Profile When the SDI Outputs block is selected (title bar highlighted) additional menu options appear at the right of the screen. Primaries - set the colour space primary to be used for the output. Range - set the digital levels of black and peak white for the output. Profile - defines the HDR profile to be applied to the output. S352 Insert - allows the SMPTE 352 packet to be disabled. Jitter Inserter allows jitter to be inserted into the SDI output signals SDI 4 controls the signal amplitude and slew rate of the SDI 4. Interlink Delay controls timing offset between outputs. DA Output when enabled (1) will clone the signal from output 1 to the other three outputs. WSS (SD-PAL only) enables / disables wide screen signalling. VI (SD Only) enables / disables the video index flag. ANC 2016 enables /disables SMPTE 2016 active format description. Timecode enables / disables output timecode generation. SMPTE Scrambler enables / disables the SDI polynomial scrambler. Primaries Sets the colour space primary to be used for the output: DCI Digital Cinema Initiative, SMPTE RP 431 Rec.709 EBU SMPTE C SMPTE RP 145 Rec ITU-R Recommendation BT.709 ITU-R BT.470 standardized RGB colour space ITU-R Recommendation BT.2020 S Gamut3 Cine is the corresponding colour space for S-Log 3 Profile for pure log processing within BT.2020 colour space. S Gamut3 S Gamut is the corresponding colour space for S-Log 3 Profile to accommodate BT is the corresponding colour space for S-Log 2 Profile to accommodate BT.709. Ultra TQ Update 11

12 Range Sets the digital levels of black and peak white for the output. SMPTE Full Narrow Range uses the following levels: 8-bit RGB 16 = black = white, CbCr 16 to bit RGB 64 = black = white, CbCR 64 to bit RGB 256 = black = white, CBCr 256 to 3840 Range uses the following levels: 8-bit RGB 0 = black = white, CbCr 0 to bit RGB 0 = black = white, CbCR 0 to bit RGB 0 = black = white, CBCr 0 to 4092 Note that the Range selection will affect the levels of the test patterns in the Generator Profile Defines the HDR profile to be applied to the output. 2.2 gamma uses the standard definition range profile as defined by ITU-R BT This should be selected if the input signal has SDR content. PQ EOTF HLG EOTF uses the Dolby Vision PQ (Perceptual Quantizer) Electro-Optic Transfer Function profile as standardised by SMPTE uses the Hybrid Log-Gamma Electro-Optic Transfer Function profile as defined by ITU-R BT Note that the chosen Profile will automatically change the levels of the Generator HDR Staircase test pattern. SMPTE Scrambler The SMPTE Scrambler function, normally enabled (I) applies polynomial scrambling to the multiplexed data stream as defined in the SMPTE specification for the selected output video format. This scrambling can be turned off to see the underlying data structure for diagnostic purposes. SFP Information Tile The SFP Information Display tile appears if the SFP / IP option is installed. When a supported SFP is installed in the Ultra unit, details of the device are displayed in the SFP Information tile /18

13 HDR Test Pattern PQ EOTF Test Pattern The Ultra Generator provides a HDR Test Pattern ("HDR Luma Staircase") whose levels are dynamically set by the chosen SDI output Profile. The image bellow shows the waveform levels for PQ EOTF. Note that the Graticule Levels are set in the "Nits graticule marks" section of the Configuration - Video menu. The following table gives default settings for the NITs for PQ EOTF and HLG EOTF. 14 HDR Option This HDR option provides the following: O-Zone false colour display of dynamic range for all video formats M-HDRZone, C-HDRZone, M-HDRFull, C-HDRFull and SDR-Zone false colour displays (See Picture Support for SMPTE, EBU, Rec. 709, DCI, Rec S Gamut, S Gamut3 and S Gamut Cine Primary colour space input Support for SMPTE and Full range input Support for mixed SDR and HDR images Support for 2.2 Gamma, PQ EOTF and HLG EOTF, profiles SDI output profile selection supporting 2.2 Gamma, PQ EOTF and HLG EOTF SDI Output colour space selection supporting SMPTE, EBU, Rec. 709, DCI, Rec. 2020, S Gamut, S Gamut3 and S Gamut3 Cine HDR Staircase test pattern with dynamic levels set by SDI output profile. SFP+ / IP Options The SFP+ / IP options provide the following: Viewing and basic analysis of video from SMPTE 2110, SMPTE or video over fibre video SFP (dependent on device fitted). Monitoring and basic analysis audio from SMPTE 2110, SMPTE or video over fibre SFP (dependent on device fitted) Generation of video test patterns and sequences via SMPTE 2110, SMPTE or video over fibre SFP (dependent on device fitted). Generation of audio test tones via SMPTE 2110, SMPTE or video over fibre SFP (dependent on device fitted). SFP Information tile providing SFP manufacturer and operational details.. Keyboard Short Cuts <ALT> + H <ALT> + D <ALT> + S connects Local User Interface to HDMI Output connects Local User Interface to DisplayPort Output connects Local User Interface to the SDI Output Resetting Individual Configurations Using Mouse Right click or long left click on a configuration setting will display Reset box to allow the individual parameter to be reset. RGB 4:4:4 Images output as YUV 4:4:2 Note that if an RGB image is loaded in the generator and then played out in a YUV, 4:2:2 format, it will have colour artefacts outside of the permitted colour space limits. This will be seen in the CIE chart 14 03/18

15 Improvements Configuration Menu Configuration - Video menus are collapsed by default so the Caption section not hidden off the bottom of the screen. Go to error on Video Status, Audio Status, ANC Status, Clicking on this icon next to the currently selected output format will display the Video Standards Editor. Clicking on the icon next to the Genlock drop down will display the Genlock Timing Editor. - Now replaced by: Panel menu selection Video Status Error Selection When there are multiple errors detected, the Video Status Control Panel can be used to navigate through the error. The entries in Video Status show parameters in error and give error counts for a range of standard features of the video data stream. For instance, the ANC entry counts invalid ANC checksums. When an error is detected, pressing on the red button next to the error will move the cursor to that position in the Data Viewer Ultra TQ Update 15

16 User Interface Settings The User Interface section in the Configuration - System menu allows the menu colour scheme to be selected Hue Brightness Graticule colour this drop down menu allows the user interface colour scheme to be selected. this drop down menu allows the brightness of user interface colour be selected from a choice of Default, High or Low. allows the viewer graticule colour to be selected. Waveform marker colour allows the Waveform tile marker colour to be selected. Cage colour allows the Picture tile cage colour to be selected. Hide tile titlebar when maximised when enabled (1) will display the user interface in 'clean' mode, free from unwanted menus and text /18
