1 K4P Series 4" Graphic Display Recorder from Barber-Colman 12-channel graphic recorder Large data archiving capability with integral PC card, floppy disk or hard disk drive Ethernet, MODBUS or Profibus communications Web-browser enabled alarm notification High quality color display 3 Mb trend history Configuration/operation via touch screen or via local or remote PC Math functions, timers, counters and totalizers Remote file transfer Relay outputs Analog retransmission outputs The K4P is a high specification graphic recorder capable of plotting up to 12 input signals, math (derived) channels, totalizer s etc. Enclosed in a sheet steel case designed to meet the requirements of an industrial environment, this recorder is ideal for continuous and batch processes as well as test and QA environments. Display The display consists of a 5.5 TFT color LCD originally designed for the harsh environment of automotive applications. This display is overlaid with a tough touch-screen membrane and the whole fascia can be sealed to IP65. The display can show process s as if traced on a traditional chart, as bargraphs or in numeric format. Process alarms can also be viewed in a tabulated display and can be filtered by group or point. Configuration The recorder is fully configurable from the touch-screen using a simple menu system with text prompts. This allows access both to simple operator facilities and, via a password, to the input and instrument configuration. The recorder can also be configured from a software package, allowing the user to set up the configuration off-site for later downloading to the recorder (144mm) 1.1 (27mm) (405mm)(LTC - open) (290mm) 9.88 (251mm) 9.25 (235mm) 8.46 (215mm) GRAPHICS RECORDER 5.67 (144mm) Case clamp 5.39 (137mm) Front view Maximum panel thickness =.98 (25mm) View on right hand side.069 (1.75mm) Alternative location for case clamp 5.39 (137mm) Min. 2 K4P Series 4" Graphic Display Recorder from Barber-Colman Ethernet & Web-Enabled DAQ The tried and tested 100mm graphic recorder is now web-enabled. Improvements to the K4P have led to a browserenabled unit, giving you the freedom to browse your process over the Internet. This new feature allows real-time information to be monitored from an Internet-enabled PC, anywhere in the world. The K4P connects to the world wide web via an Ethernet network. Use of an embedded TCP/IP server on the K4P means that realtime process data can be browsed on a PC that has no specialized data acquisition software installed - only a standard Internet browser is required. Data is displayed in the form of a chart, bar graphs and alarmsummary, incorporated into a single screen, displaying all pertinent process information concurrently. The data can be logged to the network via the client PC. The web-enabled unit also features alarm notification. For user-selected alarms, a message is sent to a stored list of e- mail addresses. Message content includes unit identification tag, channel tag, alarm number and the time at which the alarm went active

9 Operator Display (continued) Group Configuration Group configuration allows the contents and trend interval of the groups to be set up. There are six display groups associated with the basic recorder. If your recorder includes a math option, a DV group is available. This group allows group averages to be taken, global resets to be carried out and so on. This group cannot be displayed, but individual derived variable channels can be displayed. If your recorder has one of the archiving options (Field 13), a log group is created to identify those items which are to be logged to the memory card. This group cannot be displayed. Video Memory (Field 14) The amount of trace history that a recorder can hold in its volatile video memory depends primarily on the total number of points, and the type of points digital inputs require much less memory than analog inputs. The following tables show recording periods for some typical configurations of recorders with 1 MB, and 3 MB memory and analog data: Table 1. Approximate Total Trace Times, Recorder With 1 MB Memory. Scan Rate 1 Point 3 Points 6 Points 12 Points 1 second 1.5 days 16 hours 9 hours 4.2 hours 10 seconds 14.6 days 6.5 days 3.7 days 1.8 days 60 seconds 2.9 months 1.3 months 22 days 10.5 days 120 seconds 5.8 months 2.6 months 1.5 months 21.0 days Table 2. You use instrument configuration to establish the password, language, remote cold junction, and instrument tag. Access to the configuration screens is password protected. When shipped from the factory, the recorder is configured with the password You can change the password to your choice. You can choose to display the screens in English, French or German. For each thermocouple input channel you can set the cold junction type to internal, external, or remote. You can define a separate channel to measure the remote CJ temperature and define its temperature units as Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvins or Rankine. Remote CJ can also be enabled/disabled in instrument configuration. Identify an instrument tag of up to 20 characters that will appear in the title bar of the area display, the operator display and configuration display screens. 328 Barber-Colman Company, Loves Park, IL 1250-DB

10 Standard Features (continued) Channel Configuration Alarms Channel configuration involves range, alarms and trace. In the range section, you define the inputs, linearization type, cold junction type, break response, and channel tag. In the trace section you select the color of the channel trace and define spans A and B. You can configure up to four alarms for each channel. For absolute and deviation alarms, you enter a hysteresis to prevent false trigger. For all alarms, you can enter a dwell period. If the alarm clears within the dwell period, the alarm is ignored. In the following diagrams, process s increase from left to right. Absolute Alarms An absolute high alarm becomes active when the process rises above the alarm threshold. The alarm remains active until the measured falls below setpoint minus the hysteresis. Absolute Low setpoint Absolute Low Latest part of chart Measured Absolute High setpoint Deviation Alarms An absolute low alarm becomes active when the process falls below the alarm threshold. The alarm remains active until the measured rises above setpoint plus the hysteresis. Absolute High Deviation alarms require a reference, a deviation, and a hysteresis. Deviation Out Hysteresis Hysteresis alarms are active when the process rises Earliest part of chart above the reference plus deviation, and remain Figure 3. Absolute Alarm Definition active while the process is above reference plus deviation minus hysteresis. Deviation Out alarms are active also when the process falls below reference minus deviation, and remain active until the process rises above reference minus deviation plus hysteresis. 11 Standard Features (continued) Rate of Change Alarms Alarm Messages You must configure a, a time period and an averaging period with rate of change alarms. Figure 6 illustrates an alarm with a of 200 liters and a time period of one minute. The alarm is triggered if the process changes by more than the configured in less than the configured time period i. e., more than 200 liters per minute. The averaging period can be used to change the sensitivity of the alarm so that noise spikes or normal oscillations in the input signal do not trigger false alarms. On/off messages (HH:MM Alarm on CCn, and HH:MM Alarm off CCn) can be displayed when alarms become active (on), or become non-active (off). HH:MM is the time, CC is the channel number and 'n' is the alarm in question. Similar messages can also be displayed to show when alarms are acknowledged. Minutes Latest part of chart Rate of change - rise Measured Rate of change - fall 20 In this example, both rise and fall alarms are triggered at 200 litres per minute 10 Rate of change - fall Rate of change - rise Earliest part of chart Litres x 1000 Figure 6. Rate of Change Alarm. Internal Events Jobs Real Time Clock In addition to the four channel alarms, you can configure a total of six internal events. Each event can generate up to two jobs. Event inputs can be ANDed or ORed, so multiple logical inputs can be used. Event sources are: Operator Key Alarm on specified channel Alarm on any channel Unacknowledged alarm on any channel System error Clock failure Another specified event Model K4P Recorder power up Jobs cause the operation of the recorder to change as the result of an alarm or event. Job activities include: Changing chart span B channel N Changing chart span B for all Sound buzzer Disable all alarms Acknowledge all alarms Display message N Log message N This list is valid for the standard Model K4P Recorder. Extra job actions are added if the recorder is equipped with options such as totalizers, counters, timers, ASCII packed, etc. This part of the recorder's configuration allows you to set the current time and date using the keyboard, and the date format (Day/Month/Year or Month/Day/Year) from a pick list. The time and date are maintained, under power-off conditions, by a nickel-cadmium battery. 330 Barber-Colman Company, Loves Park, IL 1250-DB

12 Standard Features (continued) Configuration Transfer This facility allows the transfer between recorders, or between the recorder and a host computer using a jack socket located to the right of the disc slot. Only the baud rate is configurable at the recorder. If you are transferring to and from a host computer, the other settings needed are eight data bits, one stop bit and no parity. The configuration transfer circuit is designed for use with TTL (0 to +5V) signals. A converter may be required with some host computers to change the signals to 12 Volts. The Transfer function will overwrite the destination recorder's configuration; ensure that the transfer is carried out in the correct direction (i.e. from save to restore) Optional Features Custom Messages The custom messages option (Field 15) allows you to enter as many as 20 messages as the result of operator or job action. Analog Retransmission Custom Curve Retransmission of 4 to 20 ma signal proportioned to channel. Option fields 7 through 10. 13 Optional Features (continued) Data Storage The memory card option (Field 13) provides a storage media device that features either 3-1/2 or Type III PCMCIA reading and storage capability. All files are stored in DOS format. Configuration software is available from Barber-Colman to create and modify configurations on a personal computer for downloading to the recorder. Also, reformatting software is available to convert packed format data logs to ASCII format, thus allowing manipulation of the data in the personal computer. Disk functions of the recorder can be available from both the configuration menu and the operator menu. Disk functions must be enabled in during configuration. Major disk functions are: ASCII Log Compressed Log Configuration Save and Restore As Save and Restore but with ASCII Data Logging As ASCII Log but with Packed Data Format Data Storage Capacity Data per megabyte of storage memory is determined by the update rate and number of points being stored. The table below shows the amount of data that can be stored in one megabyte of memory for each points/update rate combination. This table represents ASCII packed data format a compression format similar to PK-ZIP. Archive re-formatter software is included for decompression of data files. Update Rate 1 Point 3 Points 6 Points 12 Points 1 second 4.6 days 36 hours 18 hours 9.3 hours 2 seconds 9.2 days 72 hours 36 hours 18.6 hours 5 seconds 23 days 7.5 days 90 hours 46.5 hours 10 seconds 46 days 15 days 7.5 days 93 hours 30 seconds 138 days 45 days 22.5 days 11.6 days 1 minute 276 days 90 days 45 days 23 days 10 minutes 7-1/2 years 2-1/4 years 1-1/4 years 230 days For example, capacity per megabyte of six points of data logged every 10 seconds is 7.5 days. To calculate the amount you can store on a 1.44 M, 3-1/1" floppy disk, simply multiply 7.5 x 1.44 = 10.8 days of data. Or, if you're recording 12 points every 2 seconds, the ratio is 18.6 hours per megabyte. Therefore, on a 520 meg hard drive you can store: 18.6 x 520 = 9672 hours, or 403 days ( ). 332 Barber-Colman Company, Loves Park, IL 1250-DB
