Spaceteq is currently developing a medium to high data rate S-Band TT&C communications system (CTR-S) for EO-SAT1 Satellite. The CTR-S transceiver will have the capability of being reconfigured for various modulation schemes and data rates. Additionally, the CTR-S will boast low power consumption and high sensitivity. The proposed transceiver will be designed to be radiation tolerant on PCBs the size of Eurocard 3U footprint, stacked together. The CTR-S will cover the standard ITU-R S-band TT&C frequencies. The paper will present the detailed design of the proposed S-Band TT&C transceiver. 10:00 Es hailsat-2: A look at Amateur Radio s first geostationary satellite and the equipment you are going to need to work it. Space Physics (Rhodes) If all goes according to plan the Qatar Satellite Company s second satellite, Es hail-2, will be placed in a geostationary orbit by a Space-X rocket in the third quarter of It will carry an AMSAT linear transponder as a secondary payload, giving amateurs for the first time access to a geostationary satellite. The transponder uplink frequency will be 2.4 GHz, downlink frequency GHz and the bandwidth 250 khz. The operational parameters of the transponder are analysed and possible technical solutions for the up- and downlink requirements are presented. Emphasis is placed on low cost equipment in the best Ham tradition. The delay in the launch has given Hannes Coetzee more time to experiment with equipment. He will present an updated version of how to get talking on Es hailsat-2, even more accessible! SAM S RADIO

2 10:45 Refreshment Break 11:00 Modulation techniques and applications to Information transfer Deon Coetzee ZR1DE Transmission of information by modulating a carrier wave has been practised since the invention of the telegraph system. Present day transmission requirements necessitate continuous development of sophisticated modulation techniques especially where low signal strengths are concerned. This presentation investigates some developments in the field and its applicability to such low signal level communication 11:30 SDR on the Raspberry Pi as an entry level system Anton Janovsky ZR6AIC Taking it from an entry level transmitter and receiver to a satellite transponder. The presentation will show how and will include practical demonstrations. 12:15 Introducing Nayif-1 as a vehicle for STEM development Johan Erasmus, MSc, ISIS-RSA Branch Manager and Systems Engineer The mission was started roughly six years ago as a collaborative effort between Amsat-UK and ISIS. From modest beginnings the project have witnessed a successful launch on 21 November 2013, excellent operational results and even a range of subsequent spacecraft featuring similar secondary payloads (UKube-1, QB50-p2) have been build launched and operated. Over the past two years Amsat-UK, Amsat-NL and ISIS have been collaborating with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) and American University of Sharjah (AUS) to design and build a follow-on project to the Funcube-1 project called Nayif-1. This paper will start with a brief overview of the current status of the Funcube satellite family before focussing on the technical details, launch and early operations of the Nayif-1 satellite. Particular attention will be given to the real world importunity of using this class of spacecraft in a classroom environment to introduce and motivate young people to learn about and get involved in nanosatellites and space exploration. 13:00 Five Years of BACAR Christo Kriek ZR6LJK, Cor Rademeyer ZS6CR The Sekunda Amateur Radio Club is continuing the BACAR project in 2017, this being the fifth year of the project.
