4 PAGE 4 OF 13 INTRODUCTION To achieve standardisation and rationalisation, good quality PVC danger and warning tapes which shall be easily visible and resistant to deterioration shall be used. The cable trench danger tape shall be used to bring into attention the presence of cables in the proximity when excavating and the warning tape for cordoning off hazardous and dangerous areas. 1 SCOPE This specification covers City Power s requirements for cable trench danger and warning tapes. 2 NORMATIVE S The following documents contain provisions that through reference in the text constitute requirements of this specification. At the time of publication the editions indicated were valid. All standards and specifications are subject to revision and parties to agreements based on this specification are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the documents listed below. SANS 1186: Symbolic safety signs. 3 WARNING TAPE 3.1 Material The tape shall be of a non-adhesive polyvinyl chloride (PVC) type. 3.2 Size The tape shall be provided in rolls of 500 m long X 90 mm wide. 3.3 Thickness The tape shall have a thickness of 100 µm. 3.4 Colour The chevron tape shall be white with non-fading red diagonal stripes The diagonal stripes shall be 53 mm wide at an angle of 45 0 apart to the edge of the tape The red diagonal stripes shall be spaced 75 mm along the edge of the tape.

5 PAGE 5 OF 13 4 CABLE TRENCH DANGER TAPE 4.1 Material The tape shall be of a non-adhesive polyvinyl chloride (PVC) type. 4.2 Size The tape shall be provided in rolls of 500 m long X 450 mm wide. 4.3 Thickness The tape shall have a thickness of 100 µm. 4.4 Colour and markings The tape shall be yellow with non-fading black printing The printing shall be suitably spaced and repeated every 1000 mm over the full length of the tape The printing shall be as follows: a) Electricity (danger) logo, sign WW7, as per SANS 1186, and lettering 12 mm high followed by the notice DANGER / GEVAAR / INGOZI, followed by. b) ELECTRIC CABLE / ELEKTRIESE KABEL in black lettering, 30 mm high. 5 MARKING, PACKING AND DOCUMENTATION 5.1 Marking The tape core shall be clearly and indelibly marked with the following: a) Brand name or trade mark. 5.2 Packing The tapes shall be individually packed, in acceptable plastic wrapping, so that they are adequately protected from damage during normal transit Each roll shall be supplied on a suitable reel which shall be sturdy and hard Catalogue number shall be marked on each roll City Power s SAP number shall be clearly shown on the label. 5.3 Documentation Documentation shall be submitted in a technical catalogue format The technical catalogue shall specify the sizes, dimensions, reference numbers, and if applicable, the complete range of other products and accessories available.

6 PAGE 6 OF 13 6 QUALITY ASSURANCE A quality management system shall be set up in order to assure the quality of the tapes during development, production, and installation. Guidance on the requirements for a quality management system may be found in the following standards: SANS ISO 9000, SANS ISO 9001, SANS ISO 9002, SANS ISO 9003 and SANS ISO The details shall be subject to agreement between the purchaser and supplier.
