And it hles a very good range documents through its 100-sheet ADF, including long documents up to 1000 mm when Long Document mode is activated. Plus heavier-weight stock up to 546 gsm can be fed through its straight paper path. Users can also choose from a wide range automatic image processing features that minimize need to make time-consuming manual adjustments via stware. Up to three one-touch scan jobs can be programmed via unit s very easy to use Job Registration tool. The imageformula DR-6010C also fers smaller than average file sizes when scanning in colour mode faster than average scan speeds when scanning multiple pages in most modes tested. Although it slows down when scanning from control panel, its productivity is very good overall. Because its very good feature set, BLI highly recommends imageformula DR-6010C for departmental scanning environments. 3 Lab Test Report Canon imageformula DR-6010C MEDIA Media Hling HANDLING VERY GOOD VERY GOOD The imageformula DR-6010C features an automatic document feeder (ADF) with a capacity 100 sheets, which is slightly less than average most or scanners in its speed range. The unit can hle paper sizes from 53 mm x 72 mm to 218 mm x 356 mm paper weights up to 128 gsm from ADF. Plus, users can manually feed individual documents with paper weights up to 546 gsm. In tests, it satisfactorily hled a variety media, including business cards, cheques, carbonless forms wrinkled paper from its ADF. However, thicker media, such as credit cards, embossed cards ID cards, must be fed through unit s straight paper path located in back scanner. When Long Document mode is selected, ADF scans documents up to 1000 mm. The imageformula DR-6010C fers ultrasonic double-feed detection, which can be disabled to allow for feeding multi-part forms or documents with attached labels. In BLI s tests, device hled a mixed batch different sizes, types weights without any problem. The document feeder fers face-up scanning from ADF in portrait orientation. Anor CD containing a copy Adobe Acrobat, which was not tested, is also included. The user can choose eir a typical installation (which was used in testing), whereby all applications are installed at once, or a custom installation. The CD does not require a computer restart after installation. There are no trays to attach out box. However, both roller units must be installed upon setup. O finish installation, users must insert AC cable into power inlet, n connect AC cable to a power outlet connect it to a PC via a USB cable. drivers/stware Drivers/Stware EXCELLENT EXCELLENT TWAIN ISIS drivers are included. For example, drop-down menu choices enable users to quickly select to scan documents to a file, a network folder or a default printer. program one-touch scan presets, which BLI technicians noted was very easy to do, users go to Job Registration tool, right-click on one one-touch buttons (one to three), select New/Editing, choose desired settings, save settings give one-touch button a name. The three available one-touch jobs can n be selected from device by pressing one three hard keys (labelled with numbers 1, 2 3, respectively) from control panel. While three one-touch jobs can be programmed by end-user, most or departmental scanners tested fer more one-touch job programming. Job Button List (U.S. model pictured) Additional features include a folio scan mode, which scans both sides a folded document as one image, a MultiStream function that allows one image to be scanned using two different scanning modes saved as two different files, which is hy for organizations that need to archive a document as an image file, for example, send it out for distribution at same time. An optional barcode detection module is also available. A Help file with very good information is available for driver. The driver also shows a page count while scanning a scan preview. CapturePerfect Job Registration tool also show a scan preview. Pop-up error messages are displayed at PC indicating a paper jam. In addition to auto paper size selection automatic colour detection, y include de-skew, auto sharpen, smoothing, background removal, reverse image, de-speckle, RGB adjustments, blank-page removal, custom area scanning hole-punch removal. Additional features include moiré reduction three text enhancement modes for documents with light dark images Advanced Text Enhancement I extracts text from documents with dark-coloured backgrounds; Advanced Text Enhancement II enhances documents containing light-coloured text on patterned backgrounds; High-Speed Text Enhancement enhances high-contrast documents with dark text on light background by removing halftone backgrounds. Canon s Colour Drop-Out function enables users to drop out red, green or blue, or a custom colour, to allow for improved OCRing. This function performed well in BLI s tests. The blank-page removal feature also performed well in tests. The DR-6010C scans at resolutions ranging from 100 dpi up to 600 dpi in black-white, greyscale colour modes, which is typical departmental units in this speed range. HARDWARE Hardware Ease EASE OF Use USE GOOD good Scanning can be initiated at device by pressing one three one-touch hard keys on control panel. No or hard keys are available. BLI technicians noted that ease loading paper is comparable to that some or departmental units tested. Users adjust side guides without need to unlock lock m. Each roller needs to be replaced after 250,000 scans, which is a longer life than those most or departmental units tested. Users n pull a green hle down to right to remove retard roller. A counter showing total documents scanned is available through Properties tab within scan stware. A total count a roller count are available; counters can be cleared without entry a password. PRODUCTIVITY Productivity VERY GOOD VERY GOOD With a rated speed 60 ppm (112 ipm), imageformula DR-6010C s scan speed is faster than average units tested in its speed range when scanning in eir black--white mode or colour mode at 0 dpi. When scanning using one-touch hard keys from control panel re is a processing delay that causes scan speed to decrease, which is not typical units in this speed range. According to Canon, this slowdown is due to fact that JPEG compression is not used when scanning using hard key on control panel. In contrast, when users scan from driver, images are compressed at scanner n transferred to CapturePerfect, which in turn decompresses images. The company is currently working on a solution to this issue. The unit s efficiency rate ( percentage rated speed at which it operates) is better than average when scanning in black--white mode in colour mode. When increasing resolution to 300 dpi, unit s colour scan speed decreased significantly when scanning via control panel, but did not slow down when scanning from driver. Unlike most or departmental scanners tested to date, re is virtually no duplex speed slowdown when scanning in eir colour mode or black--white mode. 12 Lab Test Report Canon imageformula DR-6010C SUPPORTING TEST DATA Test Environment This product was tested in BLI s 929-square-metre test lab, in an environment monitored by a Honeywell Temp/RH chart recorder, which replicates typical fice conditions. Test Equipment A PC running Microst XP Pressional, based on a 2.8-GHz Intel P4 processor with 1-GB memory a 50-GB hard drive. The scanner is connected to PC via a USB cable. Test Duration Products are tested for two weeks, one week which consists a reliability test during which product is run at its manufacturerrated duty cycle, or as many scans that can be performed during an eight-hour work day. Tested Configuration Base unit. Test Procedures The test methods procedures employed by BLI in its lab testing include BLI s proprietary procedures. An industry-stard KATUN test original, as well as BLI s 6% coverage original, is used in speed tests. BLI s test is designed to replicate real-world use over an eight-hour workday, as such includes a mix various types sizes documents, colour black--white, single-sided double-sided. Tested originals include lightweight invoices, cheques, business cards, heavier card stocks, credit cards, ID cards embossed cards, when supported. Speed tests are conducted in black--white--white, greyscale colour modes using a single page a stack pages that is equal to double unit s manufacturer-rated scan speed. The tests are performed at 0-dpi resolution using single-sided pages default settings, but a test is conducted to check for any slowdowns in duplex mode. Speed tests are also conducted at 300 dpi to gauge degree slowdown at high resolutions. The speed is measured both for scans sent from driver for scans sent via one-touch key, when available. OCR tests are performed using default settings at 0 dpi 300 dpi using a clean, good-quality test document, as well same document that contains highlighted text; same document wrinkled; same document printed with very light text.
