3 1. Introduction 1.1 General Thank you for using the Equflow 6100 Digital/Analog converter (D/A converter). This manual provides instructions for correct installation and operation of the Equflow D/A converter. Equflow continuously improves its products, which includes converters. This may result in new revisions of hardware and/or software. This manual complies with software revision G. The Equflow product code for this D/A converter is 6100DACONDC03. We advise you to read this manual entirely before installation and operation of this instrument. Equflow is not liable for any damages caused by non-compliance with the installation and operating instructions. Ketelmeer JX Oss Phone: +31 (0) info@equflow.com Internet: Contents of package The package of the Equflow 6100 D/A converter should contain the following items: - Equflow 6100 D/A converter, - installation instructions and user s guide. 1.3 General use of the Equflow 6100 D/A converter The Equflow 6100 D/A converter converts a digital signal, supplied by a flow sensor to an analog signal (e.g ma). This D/A converter is typically used in combination with an Equflow flowmeter and a (third party) device, for which the digital signal must be converted (Figure 1). Although, the process described above is fairly straightforward, many factors have an influence on the correct working of this system: i.e. temperature, viscosity, type of fluid, type of pump, speed of the fluid, piping, pollution, etc. Therefore, it is important to use the right equipment for a correct operation of the flow meter. For example: - A filter is highly recommended in front of the flow meter to avoid disturbing signal output by contamination. - A pump, which introduces a lot of fluctuations in the flow could result in inaccurate measurements. - Piping and fittings before and behind the flow meter could influence the measurements. - The range of the flow meter (pressure and flow) should match the range of the process. The following storing conditions apply: - humidity: less than 80%, - temperature: between 0⁰ - 40⁰C, - no direct sunlight, - drastic changes in moisture and temperature should be avoided, - no vibrations. 5 2. System description 2.1 General function description The Equflow 6100 D/A converter converts a digital signal, supplied by a flow sensor, to an analog signal (e.g ma). The converter can be calibrated to reference a certain flow to a certain current, voltage or frequency. 2.2 Lay-out description The lid of the Equflow 6100 D/A converter can be removed, which allows access to the inside of the device. On the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) the SET button, MODE selector and LED can be found, as can be seen in Figure 2. The connections for the flow sensors can be found on the INPUT side of the converter (pin 1-6). The power input and analog out connections are located at the OUTPUT side of the converter (pin 7-12). Installation and programming instructions 3.1 General remarks - Mount the Equflow 6100 D/A converter in a dry and clean location. - Use the appropriate cable connections to connect flow meter and other devices 3.2 Connections 1. The following modes can be selected: Pos. Outputmode E Set maximum frequency flowsensor 1 F Set maximum frequency flowsensor Procedure for configuring the D/A converter An output signal of 4-20 ma is the default setting for the 6100 D/A Converter with a 1000 Hz setpoint for 20 ma. This means that an input of 1000 pulses per second is related to the maximum output of 20 ma. The following procedure can be used to configure the D/A converter: Choose the desired setting on the 16 point mode selector and press the SET button to confirm the selection. The LED will briefly turn cyan if the setting is accepted. 1. Choose the desired output mode. You can chose either of 8 possible outputs (1 Voltage-, 3 Current- en 4 Frequency ranges). Note: changing the output mode will reset the output limit to 100%. 2. Optional: choose the desired output limit, the default output limit is 100%. This will limit the maximum Voltage, Current and frequency to a percentage of the normal scale. For example: - Choosing 0 and A gives a 0-5V Output. - Choosing 1 and 9 gives a 4-16mA Output. (16mA is 75% of 4-20mA.) - Choosing 5 and B gives a frequency output Hz. 3. Calibrate the sensor frequency that should give the maximum output. Make sure there is a stable flow at the desired maximum flowrate. Then select position E on the mode selector and wait for at least 10 seconds before pressing set. The LED should turn yellow to confirm setting the new maximum output frequency. The D/A converter will take the average frequency in the interval between selecting E and pressing set, and requires a minimal interval of 10 seconds to do so. If a sensor is connected to the sensor 2 (pins 4, 5 and 6) use position F instead of E to calibrate the sensor.
